Cabela's African Safari not DevHook-friendly?

Cabela's African SafariCabela's African Safari seems such as an obscure title for most people. After all, most would just dismiss this Activision title as a mere hunting game, with a few snippets of violence (dare we say, animal cruelty?). It got a "Teen" rating from ESRB after all, because of that.

Of course, most Cabela's fans would disagree. There are those who just can't wait for its release, as it seems it's the best Cabela's hunting game so far. The graphics got a new and improved facelift, and we heard that there are more location options.

Well, like it or not, this game's been making waves lately, and it's not because of its jaw-dropping graphics or astounding gameplay. You guys might have noticed it too:
  • Err: The game that wont work no matter what, is that African hunting game or whatever it is.
  • Snarg: That would be Cabela's African Safari. Does not work, and "patching" has not been successful so far.
Well, 0okm just updated his blog, and it seems that the said UMD game doesn't run on DevHook. This game, reported to be the first one to require firmware 2.81, is apparently not DevHook-friendly at the moment. But we're guessing it wouldn't stay that way for long, as most of you guys are probably looking into it already. After all, there's nothing more like a challenge to keep our gears working like crazy, right?

Thanks to th3_strang3r for tipping us about this news!

» cabela

i thought maybe try patching the cabela iso with ppfomatic and the Star Trek Tactical Assault r-stta.ppf file. the game starts on devhook hen-c and loads up thill the activision logo appears. nothing after that. maybe this might help to get the game running on current devhook.

There are several people messing with it right now.

To elaborate on what I was quoted as saying in the article though :) . . .

According to the release notes for the ISO on "the scene". . .

"This game uses latest encryption. It does not work

even with PRX replacement. We tested a bit, to save

you time testing yourselves.

We first thought that prehaps a pmf before the

game menu required the latest video prx's, but

after replacing both the prx's and the pmf's, it

still freezes before the main menu.

A guess for the reason would be that the menu has

music, and this music requires the latest prx's to

decode. The music is packed into the DATA.ARC

presumably if anyone wants to try replacing these

as well."

Personally I don't know, I just know what I read, because I don't own the game to mess with it.

» 2.81 Firmware is out.....

Let's go Dark_aleX............

2.81 is coming...................

» So...

So font patching doesn't work for this like it does for the new Star Trek I guess. That was the first game to actually use the 2.81 prx's (needed the 2.81 font to display in-game messages)

» ok

we need to get these 2.81 games working on devhook before4 GTA:VCS comes out because i want to get it and play but im definetly not going to update so if anyone needs me to do anything to help just let me know and ill try to help

we still don't need a devhook update. This isn't a huge release like VCS so we'll just have to wait a bit. Remember, waiting is always good in the PSP scene. Something awesome always comes out of nowhere when all seems lost.

Dissapointing, we DO need an update, whats more fun than shooting humans? shooting 500 lb lions :(

» Titled incorrectly

It's not that it's not DevHook friendly... it's that it requires 2.81, which DevHook does not support at the moment.

Be clear people!!!!

» Time guys

Well it took $ony some more time to prevent us from hacking. Now it will take time for us to stop them from keeping us fromplaying these games on a 1.5. Just sit tight guys.

» so what

so what this game look like a load of crap anyway

by axelixc - 2006-10-22 07:27
» Data.arc

is there a way to decrypt and extract data.arc and den rebuild the iso? it seems that this file is indeed encrypted. i have ttested this game too and it will hang (not freeze) after the 3rd intro into black screen.

btw, so far devhook can still supports certain iso v2.80. I've tested "ScoobyDoo! Who's Watching Who?.iso" (which is v2.80) in dh 2.71emu and it works fine. dax compression level 9 also works fine.

I guess future games will be encrypted in this way. So the latest dh must have the ability to decrypt the data.arc. It will be a new kind of dh.

I can confirm that this game works. I'm playing it right now. you only need to replace the prx's and use the umd emulator with the runumd modification. you also need the "X" folder from the "worms" fix. for more info go here: ps2nfo.com
