Bloomberg vindicates video games

Despite Jack Thompson's fervent allegations that mass-murderer Cho Seung Hui had "trained to kill" using videogames, reports are now coming in that Thompson's allegations, as most of us gamers thought, are false. We've previously reported on MSNBC's doubts regarding Thompson's campaign. Now, here's a bit more from Bloomberg.com.

Bloomberg's Demian McLean reports that evidence gathered in the past week shows Cho had practiced at local shooting ranges. Gameworld Network notes that this, combined with the revelation that not a single video game was to be had at Cho's dorm room, even after a detailed police search, should be enough to vindicate video games as being involved in the tragedy.

The police findings that he trained in a shooting range before the tragedy, instead of an FPS map, only weakens Thompsons accusations. Following the logic of the overtly concerned, is a new campaign against shooting ranges perhaps needed? Well?

» SHUT UP! ^

Well all of these people are just nut jobs and they have to stop saying it is because of the computer game comunity. Real gamers can go through a game in a day or 2 hours and not say the man in the game said i had to shoot my friend!

» Good

I think Thompson is finally finished, let's see how this plays out.

Hopefully Bill Gates will get on his ass about that very hateful letter JT sent him, and Kotaku will go after that false allegation suit they mentioned.

Really, you would think after a guy claims that every game site on the Internet is involved in some conspiracy to bring him down, including every IGN network member and Gamespot (I think they have better things to do), every human being on the planet would know he's off his f*cking rocker. But no, Fox News puts him on the air to spew his hateful garbage. Disgusting really, burn in hell Fox, along with JT and all who agree with him

» You know, I don't hate fox...

Their giving him free air time to prove he's a complete

Jack-Ass ROFLMAO! If you think about it, FOX is doing us a

favor. Everybody will notice him as sue crazy, thats it!

Nothing more and nothing less. A dirt bag trying to make

money covering it up by lies and hidden agendas to make

more money. Has nothing to do with people dying, he's

soully in it for the green backs, like that lady trying to get her

son to lie about Michael Jackson. Poor Mikey.

As Chris Rock once said- People like to blame crimes on drugs or video games, but whatever happened to just being crazy?

Shhhh! It's intolerant of you to call anybody crazy. Can't you see they just need our love and compassion to get through the difficult portions of their lives?

» guns dont kill people... but they certainly help!

I dont understand why he doesnt just go on a mad rampage against the guns in the USA instead of video games, if anything... video games actually let the aggression out so theres no need to go violent towards anyone.

when the first TFC came out, I compared it NOT to a "Murder simulator" but as a sport... we had to work as a team (both attack and defence), in order to succeed... if that cho guy played this game as intended, he'd end up having better communiation skills (than being a loner) and be a happier individual indeed.

ah those were the days...

lol and i dont mean Justin Timberlake the freakin poof that he is... no death to Jack Thompson and his insinuating assault on gamers!

by comedy - 2007-04-26 02:41
» ha, yeah shooting ranges are to blame...

but wait, if shooting ranges were banned where would people shoot their guns? hmm... now i know people have conceived of this idea before, but i thought i'd mention it: i think it's the crazy gun laws of america which are to blame.

tell me this, how many crazy people nuke cities? hmm, as far as my count is going i'm at roughly... erm... none. do you know why that is? i can tell you, it's because they can't get their hands on nuclear weapons! now i know many people would say 'yes but a lot of people are responsible with their nukes'... but surely you'd think it safer if nobody was allowed one? but that's nukes, what about tanks, how many tank rampages are there each year... again not many... i think that may be due to the lack of tanks available to buy on the market.

why do these tragedies happen and so few people really question the gun laws? of course some do, i'm not breaking any new ground here, but how many people have to die before the weapons of death are held accountable?

ok, you may or may not have realised but i'm not american, the problem is that in the uk (my home) gun crime is rising due to gun availability rising, knifings have always been a worry but it seems the sheer personal up-close ness and non-instant kill of knives makes them much less easy to use as murder tools.

it's sad really. just sad

» huh?

I never called anyone crazy! I simply said that some people are crazy, and we shouldn't blame their actions on things other people use for recreation, when it's them that are responsible for their own life, and what they choose to do.

» Lost respect for NBC

I have just lost respect for NBC news.

The interview was clearly one sided, with no person to rebuttal his claim. The only defense the idiot news anchor could say was..."but you know, teenagers play video games..."

» My opinion

I don`t like Jack Thomson because he hurts our beloved industry. And he does it exagerately.

About the Virginia murder, I always thought that Jack exagerated about his allegations claiming that the main reason of the shotting was videogames. He was mistaken.

I think that anything in this world consumed in an extreme manner, will mean bad consequences for yourself. Including videogames. That`s why I play in a normal basis.

Still Jack makes people to understand that little videogame playtime leads to horrible reality-fiction confusions like the shotting. THAT`S WRONG!

» WHAT!?!?!

Quote: "how many people have to die before the weapons of death are held accountable?", The weapons are not the problem, is the stupid people behind them. Dude... just because pencils are availible doesn't mean somebody is going to go fight with one even though you very well can. Stupid people do stupid stuff and will do so with what ever instrument they can get regardless of gun availiblility. This is not about guns, it's about how stupid people get them and what they do with them. Doesn't mean that guns need to be outlawed. Thats whats wrong with other countries that are prohibited from having guns, they believe that since they can have them, nobody else should and thats just falty thinking. Banning firearms is not the solution, banning stupid people from having them is! Thats probably why your county doesn't allow

them.

by Wicked Insider - 2007-04-26 07:16

» The truth will come out...

about Jack-ASS Thompson. Just you wait and see. He will

trip and fall on his own sword for everybody else to see.

He will single handedly be the destruction of his own

agendas and all the ambulances of the world will start to

give him brake checks and he will no doubt rear end them.

It is now a personal mission of mine to speak out about

him every chance I get and I will continue to do so with my

own screen name cause I've got nothing to hide and if you

people think your all safe by not registering, your wrong.

Every time you post, your IP gets logged but this doesn't

bother me and I've got plenty to say.

Word your selves wisely people, some of you are just

saying nonesense like it's guns fault and thats completely

wrong. That and others are saying things that WILL get

them and QJ in trouble. QJ lets us express our opinions

but not at the cost of us all or we will no longer be allowed

to express our selves here about Mr Jack-Ass Thompson.

It's not a matter of GUNS, it's a matter of lying amblulance

chasers redirecting the true issue of thorough firearms background checks to video games lead to killers.

Im an american and I agree with you Comedy. If we had the same laws as you guys our crime would go waaay down. A knife can hurt someone, and can even kill, but its far less likely to be deadly than any gun could ever be. Unfortunately its not that easy though, since the Right To Bear Arms is one of the amendments. But I like the UKs system.

» Well well...

I think we're all guilty of prejudice at some points in our lives - being presumptuous about opinions and the actions we take because of those opinions. HOWEVER ..!

Mr. Thompson crosses the line on a regular basis with his stereotypical views of gamers. He is, as they say, a habitual line-stepper. He sues just about everyone without just cause; just for money. I guess my point here is... Shouldn't his lawyers license be revoked?

by DoubleDragon - 2007-04-26 14:27
» Everyone just ignore this Thompson idiot

This is exactly what he wants us to do. He wants us to keep talking about him, even when he is completely talking out of his a**. ANY PUBLICITY IS GOOD PUBLICITY. If everyone just ignores this moron, we would all stop giving him free advertising. The fact that I'm even commenting on this right now just adds fuel to the fire.

by Emubobby - 2007-04-26 16:59
» ermmm

well since you cant slay all the "stupid people" and put them out of the equation, it has to be the guns that need to go to fix a lot of the mess... either more difficult ways to get firearms or ban them outright.

Dont see this as a stupid post- see it as one that MAKES SENSE.

Stereotypes come into play here

American : Stupid

English : Naive

German : Beer drinkers

Dont want to take any flack here but this applies to the majority :) (me being british)
