Black Friday mad rush takes Wal-Mart employee's life |

An unfortunate event on Black Friday has occurred at a Wal-Mart branch in Long Island, New York. One worker was killed while at least four other people were injured.The unnamed 34-year-old worker was doing maintenance work at the store when the people rushed to get inside, trampling him down. Co-worker Jimmy Overby narrated the scenario:
He was bum-rushed by 200 people. They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too. ... I literally had to fight people off my back.
The store was rushed with a surge of eager shoppers awaiting the door's opening at 5AM for the annual Black Friday sale. On the site, a metal portion of the door is "crumpled like an acordion".
The Wal-Mart branch has since been closed after the incident, with the investigation still ongoing. The company is said to be working with the police. Said company spokesman Dan Fogelman, "The safety and security of our customers and associates is our top priority. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families at this difficult time."
Go easy on your shopping, guys. No need to rush. The store's not going anywhere anyway. Always be mindful of what's going on around you so that if heaven forbid another situation like this comes up (knock on wood), tragedy may be averted.

Dumbasses. I hope that's not a pic from the same store where it happened. People look retarded, smiling their asses off while an innocent man loses his life, and others get injured. It's not like every single person is going for the same thing YOU want, so why rush like that? Just wow.

About saving money, well it's Black Friday stuff wont always be there and that cheap anyways, or it might sell out, there is a reason to rush. Honestly though, can't say WALMART was only one. Mufasa!!! Poor Simba! Regardless poor family. And here adds a reason as to why it should be called Black Friday.

Well when you think of black friday, you think of cheap games.
We got people getting killed for literally no reason at all over here. It's not even serial killers, like the mindless gang violence. "Oh, he has a red shirt on?! We gotta kill him!"
maybe, but its just showing human nature at its finest, and its not like this was the only time for a person to die because of these sale rushes, i suggest that they make the doors alot smaller so only a few people can fit through it, and it keeps fat people out (i am looking at u burger king.... wider doors are making americans fat!)

i was also in long island waiting in front of best buy in green acres mall. there is also a wal-mart in that mall but it was far out of my sight... i just want to know if this tragedy occurred in the same place i was in..

I gess it's walmart, the people who goes there are not always super smart... I went twice in my life and found the people there really weird. Personnally, instead of RUSHING INTO A WALMART, I prefer going into a bestbuy and say to the guy: "at walmart it's at X$" Then they give me 10% under the difference. so if walmart have a bundle at 300$ (let's say) and bestbuy at 400$, they sell it to me 290$ for the same exact bundle

Many walmart's have the line to go into the store. It depends where its at, and the decision of that store's management.
Sad event, and some idiotic people in this world. Stop, get the man up then go to destination. Many deals arn't really that big of a difference than the current price any other day. But I agree, bestbuy the way to go for that stuff.

I can tell you that Walmart brought this on themselves. Unlike civilized stores, ie, Best Buy and Office Max who let their black fridays last three days, walmart creates this surge every year by making the sale a few hours long and dropping the price mostly on cheap, crappy electronics.
If they would only extend their sale and stop this mob mentality they are creating, this poor man might still be alive. I had the same job he did and I'll tell you, it's not easy and he didn't make very much. What a shame to die for nothing......

Picture this: You're packed like a sardine, waiting in line to get into Wal-Mart. The doors open and the people ahead of you rush in. The people behind you see this and start pushing to get in too, not knowing that anyone's in danger. Suddenly, you almost trip over some guy on the floor. You try to stop, but the crowd behind you pushes you right over him.
The people behind you are guilty of pushing... you were probably pushing too. None of you saw the guy at the front, who probably just got knocked off balance by someone who was knocked off balance by someone who was knocked off balance.
Now, who are you going to charge for murder?
I say charge Wal-Mart - they're the one that opened the doors with a bunch of people lined up like cattle. Hmmm... I wonder if the trampled guy was the one who opened the door....

Ok, I saw this in the news, but he really didn't die cuz people were stomping him or got ran over. Is because he had a heart attack. Although I do blame the people for causing it.
This is why I don't work retail...
People just need to get their act together and look out for other people in the store, not just other customers but the workers too.

This kind of thing could happen any time. The more overcrowded societies become the more vulnerable we all become. The best thing you could do to prevent this would have been to huck a nade at that crowd and thin them all down. It coulda happened anywhere and it sure isnt the last time its going to happen either. Wouldnt be that hard to get away with it either. Could have been anyone. In school the bullies would get away with most pranks etc on field trips or fun days. Ive seen beat downs in front of EB in the mall or in mc donalds line up. nobody ever gets caught cuz theres just too many suspects. Canada day is the worst here. i have no cheekbone getting randomly attacked in an ocean of ppl. right in front of police. the only answer is a simple law of nature. thin out the heard.
It wasn't unintentional. After the guy fell, the employees were trying to pick him back up, but even the employees were stepped upon.
Luckily, there is a God, and they will suffer greatly when the time comes for them.
Oh, and we don't know for sure they were going for TVs, but whatever it was, I hope it shorts out and causes a pretty fire to engulf their homes and their bodies.
Well, even if it wasn't on purpose (they purposely ran him over, they wanted to hurt him if not kill him, at least), do note that when employees told everyone to get out, they yelled back saying no, and they continued to shop. I think they still got kicked out later.
Best Buy doesn't accept that I think. They only take regular sales, not "special limited one time deals". And I think they say it can't be a "no rainchecks" type deal.

Try letting just two people run on your face with shoes. And not walk; RUN. Running creates more force in the same distance, so more kinetic energy is dispaced onto your face. Tell me how well you fair. If you do survive, get another 20 people to simultaneously run over you.
Just give people tickets (not the citation type, I'm referring to the "admit one" type tickets) for the item they want, starting at the beginning of the line. They ask the first person, "what do you want to get?" then they give them a ticket for each item they want, and have them show ID and they write their name on the ticket for the item.
Like let's say I want a laptop, some RAM, and a TV. They give me three tickets, and write "youarepwned(unr egistered)" on it so that no one can steal my ticket or so that I can't say "I'll take one of everything" and then sell what I don't want to someone else (since you'll have to show your ticket when you're picking up your item, along with your license to prove it's you).
But yeah... that's only for the items that people go crazy for. For junk like microphones or DVDs (not dvd players; they DEFINITELY need tickets), no one cares, so no need for that.
Also, it prevents cutters, since if you get the tickets real early, you're all good.
The only problem? What if people just show up at like 3 am, get a ticket, go home, and sleep again till it's time to open up...
Oh well.
