Best Buy misleads clients with intranet site

Best Buy logo - Image 1 Best Buy admits it - they have an intranet site that prevents customers from getting cheaper prices at Best Buy.com. In a statement sent to Courant, Best Buy claims,

Although we have an intra-store web site in place to support store operations (including products and pricing), we are reminding our employees how to access the external BestBuy.com web site to ensure customers are receiving the best possible product price.

Earlier, a company spokesperson for Best Buy said that there is no internal website accessible only to employees. Now, because of state investigators, the retail company admits that it's true they have an intranet site, citing the above quote as explanation of this.

Best Buy began to be investigated when Courant reported how two employees failed to give a discount on a purchase through the intranet site. Supposed to be manned by tech-savvy staff, BestBuy pins the blame on its employees who have somehow forgotten to access BestBuy.com from the store.

We wonder how the company will get out of this net this time? Most especially, we hope that they would better retain their memory from now on.

Best Buy is the biggest scam store ever. They only tell the truth when THEY ARE BEING INVESTIGATED!

Why have 2 seperate web sites? One is for "ripoff the customer" use, the other is to make prices seem cheaper.

Best Buy has the biggest dumbass high school dropout employees of any store (even wal mart.)

Best Buy employees are not interested in helping you, only lying to you about why you need an extended warranty which is used maybe 5 percent of the time.

Best Buy finds any excuse imaginable NOT to return items, and if they do, you only get a gift card.

Best Buy doesn't even have the lowest prices.

Overall I prefer Best Buy to Circuit City, gotta love the reward points. Very often I find most of what I want at Best Buy the same price or within a buck either way to Walmart. Yes, most of the employees there are stupid, but I'm an educated consumer and research what I want - friends, family, internet, other stores, before I choose exactly what I want.

» no *****

Have you ever asked them to find anything for you, they look at their website, right in front of you. From what I see it's a lot easier to search for items, but they are right there are no promos listed, probably because you're already in the store so they feel like you want to buy it in the store not order it on-line.

I agree with jason, I prefer Best Buy to Circiut city. Best buy's employee's aren't that bright, but in NC Circuit City's employees are dirty. Really dirty.

» best buy sucks

If you've ever tried to return something without buying the ripoff extended warranty (even though it's been less than a month) you will wish you bought it from Circuit City.

best buy just doesn't care about the customer.

» Best Buy rocks in certain situations

If you want small electronics (MP3 players, cell phones), games, and movies cheap, go to Best Buy. They really are the best.

If you want big electronics like big screen TVs, etc, DO NOT GO TO BEST BUY UNLESS YOU LIVE IN CALIFORNIA! This is because if you buy a warranty for a NON-COMPUTER product, they will ship the item to their only repair center IN CALIFORNIA and then ship it back to your state. This process means that a one-day job like cleaning the lens on my DVD player is now a 2 to 3 week job...

» Best Buy Customer Service Sucks

I went to Best Buy a couple of weeks ago to check out what they had for the video ipod and the Zune to compare. I was going to buy one or the other for my girlfriend. I had some woman come up to me right away to ask if I had any questions. I then asked her why the tag on the zune shows that you can hold more video than the ipod both of which were the 30gig models. She did not seem to know why and she asked someone else for help and they didn't know either. They only seemed concerned if I was going to buy something and was not really there to help me. I said ok thats fine and she went to help someone else. In the span of 10 minutes I had 6 employees ask me for help and none of them could answer my question. I guess if they really knew the answer to technical questions they wouldn't be working at a Best Buy store.

» of course

The lack of employee knowledge is the same at Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City, Frye's, etc. That's why you have to do your research on the net. Talk with people who own the product. What do they like about it? What do they dislike about it? What is the ratio of like to dislike?

You shouldn't be at the store until you already know exactly which make and model you want. Some 16 year old skater who works there for meth money isn't going to help you make a good decision.

gj

places like bestbuy makes the majority of their money off of ignorant consumers, people who go in and just get suckered into buying crap for their "low low" prices

bestbuy and futureshop up here in canada(same thing pretty much) have crappy customer service too, they're trained to be a-holes and to stop you from your right to return, exchange, whatever.

they'd have better customer service if they employed a bunch of chimps that throw their feces at you over the counter

» I HATE Best Buy

I live in Bellevue WA, where one of the largest stores in the country is, and they SUCK. Every time I go there for some sale item on Sunday, I get there 15 God-damned minutes after they open and the stupid little emo fa*s who work there (no joke, a lot of them have black-dyed hair made into a Devil's lock) tell me "we had a rush, we're sold out". My fu*kin ass.

I hate this fuc*in store. Someone should really look into them, because I've got a mind that most of what they do is illegal. Someone should get together all the people who have been wronged/cheated by this store in some way (I have no doubt there is a lot of them) and file a class action, teach Best Buy that when you abuse every consumer trade law in existence it comes back to bite you in the ass.

you rarely find someone that knows what they are talking about. I worked at wal-mart and got lucky working in the electronics department and it was heaven. They tend to hire people and throw them in there. So it was hilarious to find someone thinking they knew better than me and I prove them wrong when they try to make me look like an idiot when i proved they were.

» re: best buy sucks

To tell ya the truth it all depends on the store location. I work at Best Buy and the reason people look on the computer is b/c people don't want to hear that if it's not on the shelf then we don't have it. Which is mostly the case at my location. It doesn't do any good to leave ***** in the back and when it comes to the employees and the knowledge that mostly lands on the manager's for lack of training.. when really you look around and considering it's a retail job, last I checked you didn't need a degree and sometimes retail or for some of you burger flippin' is what you do before you start your career. Now I can't speak for Corporate Investigations.. (every business has one or some kinda lawsuit going on at any given point) but it is what it is.. do you're research online first and if you don't want to buy an extended warranty, that's fine.. we don't make commission on anything.. but don't b!tch when you want to return it out of the return policy b/c you are too lazy to go through the manuf.
