Australians to rally for an R18+ rating

Treat Us Like Adults - Image 1Australians are tired of getting the short end of the gaming stick. The lack of an R18+ rating on the OFLC means that games with mature or adult content can easily be refused classification and subsequently banned. They're not taking that lying down. In fact, gamers Down Under are planning to march and hold a rally demanding the implementation of an R18+ rating.

The protest rally is being organized by the Treat Us Like Adults movement which was founded by game developer Ethan Watson. Watson himself wants to “make games that, due to thematic content, would likely be refused classification in his home country," Gamepolitics reports. Although he has a personal motive for the movement, fact remains that he is not alone in his fight against the banhammer.

Gamers are to march on December 5th, 11AM, at King George Square in Brisbane. Watson also has one important reminder: “Just keep in mind that if you want this rally to be taken seriously by the public at large, you should probably leave your zombie gear for the Zombie Walk or Supanova.”

Or, how about rallying for getting rid of the damn rating board? The only thing they do is waste money. Might just as well flush it down the damn toilet, at least then its not being used to promote discrimination.

Blah if you game you are not really looking to become a man by doing so.

So just deal with it, get a job or something sometimes getting a job and laid takes your mind of gaming :D

what if something like this happens to your countries as well, what would you do?.. these poor australian gamers should get the r18+ rating for games.. they deserve it as much as everyone else in the world.. *sigh*

The veil of ignorance needs to be lifted off the world. I mean, if the developers of Dante's Inferno have been called baby killers here..They would just GLACE at the cover and immediately trash it.

I would personally never support censorship so I hope they get what they want.

Any country who denies these rights are not being fair to hard working adult citizens. If my country did that to me, I would feel like they were the enemy.

Censorship is like taking red out of the rainbow and eliminating it from the country just because the government thinks that's the best thing to do.

Since it is the SA governor who is blocking any changes to include an 18+ it would be best to do it outside his door. But good to see some action in any case.

I'm live in Austalia and even after almost a year of 'reviewing' it our gov hasn't made up its mind while us gamers are playing L4D2 WITHOUT BLOOD.
And they gave it a MA15+.
Our gov its retarded.
