Another reason for an upgrade: PSP vs PSP Slim loading times video

While the PSP Slim has been advertised to excel in that giving you that videogaming buzz fast and easy, with its new memory caching system to give players faster loading times, we haven't really seen concrete proof of it. That is, until now, with this video of the original PSP and the PSP Slim playing the exact same sequence in the exact same game.

Who came out on top? The PSP Slim, by a very, very significant margin.

The video shows both PSPs loading a battle in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - and it's a bit interesting to see that the PSP Slim immediately loads the event, with Zack readily slashing away at opponents, while the original PSP is left loading in the dark. Loading out of battle also had the PSP Slim way ahead of the original handheld, even when both finished the battle at almost the same time.

While there may have been doubts about Sony's revision of its handheld, this pretty much confirms that the electronics giant has done its homework. Great job, Sony!

» In MS

Having the games in ISO format in the Memory Stick also make games load much faster...

» Hi

Those faster loading times really sucks,

i cant get into ADHOC multiplayer mode with gta liberty city and gta vice city,

cause the slim loads to fast, and the phat loads to slow, they lost connection,

really a pain in the ass, i was away the whole weekend with a phat and a slim, and this pissed me of soo much.

also when i putted the phat on 333 mhz it still wasnt fast enough while loading, and it keeped disconnecting me,

they really have to do something about this.

» hi

Oh yes and it doesnt matter on which one i host the game, cause hosting on the phat or on the slim, will just fail. as soon i,m in the game on the slim, the slim says lost connection, and the phat is still loading to get into the game.

after that i tried it with iso,s on both machines and still the same annoying crap

» phatzor

loading isos is just as useless for gta hosting, regardless of psp system. connec is always lost

by JaXeRiR - 2007-09-16 05:33
» Well...

I still say that I can live with my Phat's loading times, a few seconds doesn't matter so much to me.

» My fat PSP

loads the game faster from memory stick.

by Tofuwrice - 2007-09-16 05:52
» Not true.

When I saw this video and the loading time of the Phat psp I thought it was fake because my psp phat doesn't load that slow. I have Crisis Core also and it's even in CSO format and im running at 300mhz. It has the same load time as the PSP SLIM, I followed the video by the second and tried at least 10 times and my PSP Phat has the exact load time as the PSP Slim. Unless that PSP Slim is loading at 266mhz or less then thats different ;D.

by wtfcccp - 2007-09-16 05:54
» WOW thats fast

I'm still not gona buy a new psp just for the loading time...I'm fine with my Fat

by mohaas05 - 2007-09-16 06:08
» um

memory stick is always faster than UMD. It always takes longer to spin up the UMD and read it. Its just like on a computer. It takes longer to load from a CD than from the hard drive.

by enigmaticdude - 2007-09-16 06:12
» Xtremely fast

I am so getting the PSPslim and Crisis Core now. I just gotta save money.

No. Cause it would solve your problem

by aznboy - 2007-09-16 07:05
» hmm

my fat psp load fast like the slim for some reason...

by akuma2099 - 2007-09-16 07:48
» Not that great

I bought a slim once the CFW was released and I did mess around with it for a little while and was not that impressed. I don't really use the UMD drive for my games so the load times aren't a problem for me. What I was looking forward to was the TV out and increased ram. But until homebrew takes advantage of the ram it's kinda useless. Also the TV out isn't any better than my PSP2TV thing that I installed and with it I can use a PS2 controller on the PSP too. So I took my slim back I might get another one later when the scene embraces it more but right now it just doesn't impress me that much.

» yeh.me too.

hopefully(but i doubt, due to low install base compared to PS2) they will make a PS2 Portable in the next 3-4 yrs. 2 analogues and 4 shoulder buttons will definetly be the right time for it :). FPShooters plz :)

by na2rul - 2007-09-16 08:09
» I think ......

I think Sony shud ve at least don something slightly more noticable wit the Slim PSP.

Not sure wot to suggest but at least perhaps a variety of vibrant colours like those ipods. Orange and a green metalic 1 for me plz :)

by PSPMAN90 - 2007-09-16 09:05
» It must be...

It must be that the guy is using a UMD on fat PSP and it takes more time to load the game! When the slim loads more faster c'uz of his game caching system! But I thing it only works when you are runing UMD and also its similar when you are running a ISO/CSO on ms onthe fat PSP. It loads fast!, more whn is on 333Mhz! When I was on that part my PSP-1000 didn't take that time loading at starting figth! So it must be the UMD loading time! that's all! Both PSP's are great! so don't push the old one to the crash of failure!

» Wait a minute, this video was filled using UMDs right?

This seems too slow to be run directly off the MS. Please tell me this is UMD read speed.

» .

I have no problem with loading times on my launch PSP. Maybe he has some laser misalignment or something?
