All eyes on '09

Ó

What are the lowly denizens of QJ looking forward to in 2009? We highlight the games coming next year (hopefully) that get us all hot under the collar.

Do you agree? Think we're raving loonies? Got suggestions of your own? Sally forth good readers, and let us know what you think.

P.S. Please bear in mind we don't know for sure that all these games are actually coming out next year, most of them don't have solid release dates, and even then, there's a lot of wishful thinking...

Gino D:

  • Dissidia
  • Hydrophobia
  • Heavy Rain
  • Sadness (lol - Ed)
  • and that upcoming Team ICO game

I could list so many more (e.g. Killzone 2, RE5, Uncharted 2, the upcoming KH games, and Final Fantasy 13 - yes, all three of them)! I think we're all going to have fun next year. Judging by a good haul of 2008's games, you can only expect things to get better and better from here on out - given that A) there are no delays to 2010, and B) the economic recession stops hounding the gaming industry.

Isaac C:

  • Suikoden Tierkreis
  • God of War 3
  • MadWorld
  • Street Fighter IV
  • Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
  • BioShock 2: Sea of Dreams
  • Ghostbusters
  • Brutal Legend
I'd put Fabula Nova Crystallis on there, but I doubt we'll see it next year.

Mabie A:

  • Heavy Rain
Very impressed with the graphics and definitely looking forward to seeing how their gameplay strategy works out.

Karl B:

  • Dark Void: It's like Rocketeer on 'roids! What could be more fun than that?
  • Resistance: Retribution: While I am definitely looking forward to PLAYING this game, the real reason why I can't wait for it to come out is that once this game's in the can, Sony Bend can start working on the next Syphon Filter game.
  • Prinny: Can I Really Be The Hero?: It's a platforming Prinny game. 'Nuff said, dood.
  • Batman: Arkham Asylum: It's not just a beat-'em-up extravaganza, it also puts an emphasis on Batman's crime-solving detecto-powers. Nice.
  • Saboteur: Adding considerable amounts of stealth (and the fact that you're just one guy with no army to back you up) is an interesting twist on the WWII genre.

Glenn M:

  • God of War III: Let's continue that climb up to Olympus, alright titans?
  • Dissidia: Final Fantasy: In English!
  • Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion (console release): "Come on baby, show me what you got" -nina williams
  • Fabula Nova Crystallis: For the love of god release the damn game already!!!

Chris C:

  • Uncharted 2: The first game was my absolute favorite game of 2007. Seeing the latest trailers and having a good long look at the newest screens made me play through Drake's again and appreciate it that much more. What we've heard of the sequel thus far, the new stealth mechanics, rumored free-climbing gameplay and improved targeting system sound fantastic. I can't wait.
  • PixelJunk Dungeons: Assuming that's what the next PixelJunk game is called. "Short form PSN titles" have been my favorite new thing this generation and the PixelJunk games are exemplary. We've heard rumors that Dungeons will be, well, a dungeon crawler (go figure). Considering how polished and well received both Monsters and Eden were, I'm expecting Dungeons to be something special.
  • The rise of Atari: I love Phil Harrison, love, love, LOVE. To be more accurate I love his vision and what he did with the PlayStation brand. Atari's slate for '09 is looking pretty darn amazing, Ghostbusters (thankyou thankyou thankyou!), Dark Athena, Sacred 2 and Eve Online (retail). Not too shabby for a publisher that looked to be on its last legs this time last year.
  • PSN on PSP: The prospect of short form direct download games in the region of 5-10 bucks would have me impulse buying software like a raving maniac. I almost hope Sony doesn't realise this, if only to spare my wallet.
  • Star Trek Online: I'm a Trekkie, the prospect of being able to explore the galaxy, to embark on the five year mission with my own ship and crew... it's the stuff of dreams.  Beam me up.

» Eyes on Dissidia

I think multi-platform Dissidia is a GREAT idea, but any Dissidia in English would be great... and I'm talking early 2009, like January. Squeenix shouldn't waste time and money on english voice actors, just give us straight subtitles!! (or at least keep the japanese voices for authenticity)

GPS for PSP in North America that was "supposed to be ready for Christmas 2008"

» For me.

-Dissidia Final Fantasy(PSP.) Great game, now I want the US version so I can actually buy it.

-Prinny Can I Really Be the Hero(PSP.) I hate the so called "strategy RPG" titles of NIS like Disgaea because they are failed attempts at what a true strategy RPG involves. I'm not saying it has to be a Tactics Ogre or anything, but every NIS tactical RPG has been terrible. However, Prinny looks to be an amazing game, as I'm also a big fan of action/platformers, love the graphics, and everyone loves the Prinny.

-Phantasy Star Portable(PSP.) I'm a much bigger fan of PSO over PSU, but the ad-hoc and ability to play against people with ad-hoc party without paying a fee for your Hunter's License to be active makes the game much more sweeter. Now I can get a few of my friends to purchase the game once we get the English version over here in the states.

-Phantasy Star 0(DS.) Haven't played it, but this one seems they go back to the PSO format. Definitely going to get this one if it gets a US release.

Final Fantasy Agito 13(PSP.) While I'm hoping they fix up the pathetic difficulty that was in Crisis Core and make the battle system a little bit better, I'm interested in Agito 13 as it may be multiplayer, but even if it's not then I'm sure it'll be pretty good if they fix what was wrong in Crisis Core.

-PS3/PSP Ad-Hoc party complete US release(PS3/PSP.) Just think. Any PSP ad-hoc game being compatible so you and your friends who live even 10 minutes away can play, say, Dissidia Final Fantasy, against each other without having to go to their house. Having your PSP hooked up to your television and recording them getting their asses handed to them without them knowing? Priceless.

a PS3 dissidia with online sounds like it would be epic

» ?

Dissidia? Multiplatform?

Woah did I miss something here?

Or is that a typo?

Well anyway, Resistance Retribution, all the Squeenix PSP titles, and pretty much everything else PSP related is what I'm waiting for.

Oh and those PS3/Xbox 360 titles like RE5, Killzone 2, God of war III, Bioshock 2..they're going to be epic!

PS:

MERRY CHRISTMAS @ EVERYONE!!!!!!! !!

» Yes and no.

Specifically I was referring to the short form downloadable games made specifically for PSN, we've started to see some of that, but mostly ports of Fl0w, PixelJunk Monsters, and Everyday Shooter. I'd like some more original stuff tailored for the PSP.

by spylogo - 2008-12-25 04:36
» crisis core

..... Do tell me you tried playing the game under hard mode.

by Epidemik_Sk8boards - 2008-12-25 05:21
» Killzone

» -

Heh, one of the publishers interested in my game were mentioned in a positive light above xD

What do I want? I don't normally plan ahead but Star Ocean: Second Departure and that GTA IV DS are definitely on my to-do list.

No console games are really standing out for me right now. But I don't rush out and buy games anyways, I'm still content with this years offering.

» in reality

a game will only suck if everyone agrees it does.

millions of people enjoyed "uncharted" such as myself and is eager for the sequel.

» only 2 dev

CAPCOM & SEGA

if we could see capcom games on the psp it would be more than great for the new year like :

RE, DMC, new SF, etc...

for sega :

only a good sonic game because those sonic rivals are really $h1* and the hulk game are welcom and any old francies of thier own.
