Alex Navarro cites Gerstmann's firing as one of the reasons for resignation |
Ó

Just a few days ago, we reported about Alex Navarro's resignation from GameSpot, which will become effective January 24. However, people were left in the dark as to the reason behind Navarro's decision to cut his ties with GameSpot. Many have supposed that the firing of Jeff Gerstmann may have something to do with Navarro leaving the gaming information site. Now, the erstwhile GameSpot staffer finally decided to speak up about the issue. Navarro told Joystiq:
Certainly [the decision to leave] had a lot to do with the whole Jeff [Gerstmann] situation...I wouldn't have left if this situation hadn't gone down the way it did...Sometimes you just realize a place isn't for you anymore, you know? I felt like it was just time for me to go.
Well, there you have it. However, Navarro didn't want to comment about CNET's decision as well as the circumstances that brought about Gerstmann's firing from GameSpot out of respect for the remaining GameSpot staff. Gerstmann, Frank Provo, and now Navarro. Will other staffers follow suit? Navarro said that he wouldn't be shocked, but that he doesn't actually expect it.

They really did fire Gerstmann for giving a bad review to a heavy advertiser (Eidos for Kane and Lynch.)
Gamespot sucks. They just lost all credibility. High reviews to the highest bidder.
I'm sure that Brad Shoemaker dork will stay.
Who really goes to Gamespot for reviews anyways?
i'm glad they are standing up for what is right and leaving. Reviews should not be based on bribery. No matter how much hype a game has the reviewer cannot be a fanboy and do a crappy job. Jeff did what was right its to bad cnet couldn't have his back on it.
No matter what I try to download on this website, I click download and the page just reloads? Any ideas to help me download things on this webiste? Thanks for any help. This is not a joke.
It's good to know that there's still some morality left in the world, and when something's corrupt, the people will stand up for what's right. Alex Navarro and Frank Provo did a pretty good thing by leaving. It sends a message to all the other game review companies that this is a terrible way to run a business, and if they have been doing it behind the scenes then they will most likely stop now.
Jeff firing the best thing that could have happened, I mean GS sucked for years full of Biased reviews and he was one of them.
And what made GS really bad was how they lied to everyone instead of being men and saying why.
Im glad mad people are leaving. Like i said before GS would be nothing and get nothing if it wasn't for the forums. They were nothing before and they are nothing now.
