AIAS to give SCEI Honorary Chairman Kutaragi with lifetime achievement award - Image 1It was revealed today that Sony Computer Entertainment Honorary Chairman Ken Kutaragi will be receiving the lifetime achievement award on February next year from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences or AIAS.

Ken Kutaragi needs no further introduction, having been dubbed as the "Father of the PlayStation brand". He directly supervised and designed the creation of all known PS consoles to date.

He retired from his post earlier this year. The 11th annual Interactive Achievement Awards will be taking place at AIAS' annual D.I.C.E. summer in Las Vegas. The organization's president, Joseph Olin, had this to say:

Kutaragi-san helped to shape home entertainment above and beyond what anybody expected. None of us would have jobs without him.

We realize we need to recognize people who made significant contributions to our industry, but not through the design and production of games.

Prior to this, the only video game industry personalities who were given the award include Minoru Arakawa and Howard Lincoln who both helped establish Nintendo as the force it is known today during their tenure with the company.
