Aeris is still dead: No FF7 remake, says Square Enix (again) |

Face it, kids. Aeris is dead. Even flower girls have to pass away sometime, don't they? *teardrops* Now, the past few weeks played witness to a couple of petitions to game developers, asking them to either port or remake a certain game into some other platform. Capcom seemed to have gotten the brunt of it, with people asking for a Resident Evil for the PSP and soon after asking for a Wii version for Resident Evil 5. Square Enix though wasn't exempt from the petition hounding.
A(nother) petition to remake Final Fantasy VII had slowly climbed its way to 20,000 signatures over the weekend. Are we surprised? No, not really. Who wouldn't want an FF7 remake anyways? Besides, the rumor about Square Enix supposedly already developing it (and using Unreal Engine 3 no less) has been making its rounds in the internet since the advent of... err.. children. But regardless, Square Enix seems adamant about their stand on (not) creating a remake for the game.
The RPG giant just sent a reply to Gaming Today, who contacted them about the said "Remake Final Fantasy 7" petition hitting 20,000 signatures. The response of Square Enix reads:
Our parent company, SQUARE ENIX of Japan, has no current plans to create a sequel or remake to that particular title at this time. This is not to say that it will never happen, itÂ’s just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects.
As of writing, the petition stands with 24,051 signatures strong. If you want to sign it, you may click on the off-site link here.

They just need time, give them 10 to 20 years, they'll make it... eventually.

Final Fantasy VII was a decent game, but no where near as good as VIII and X.

Doubt that'll ever happen, but it'd be great if it did. Got both so I wouldn't be left without, whichever it came out for, but personally, I think it would work better on the DS, or whatever the next gen version is. Turn based RPGs work too well with the touch screen, and it'd be a small, overlooked feature, but personally I'd love for it to have a drag and drop UI for materia. I wouldn't want it on the PSP so much because the games on that thing have much longer loading times, and I hate waiting, just for data to load.

On another note....what the hell QJ??!? this is old news! we already kno SE is busy with other games...we already know that there is no remake right now....

If you ever played Final Fantasy VI (Yes... the game made right before VII) you would realize that Final Fantasy VII is a cheap ripoff of VI. They both hae way too much in common, even to the point where each villain was "created", then went crazy, then wanted to become a "God" of sorts and ultimately destroy everything.
I think you need to play a few more games before declaring anything being one of the Best all time.
Zelda : OoT blows it away as well.

Do you really think that someone can make a tech demo of FF7 and didn't think of making the remake. After they see how awesome it was... After they remake all the previous ones... After every RPG Gamers know that FF7 is the greatest RPG of all time...?
Well maybe after they see how hard it is to program for PS3 ;( they change there minds. But.... Ps2 was even hard at that time and they manage to put out FFX one year after the launch.. ;)

But in all honesty looking to the future, when we are @ PS5 (2 systems ahead of PS3) will we be asking for remakes of FFX FFX-2 FFXII or FFXIII?
Something just tells me we wont be, they seem to be gearing their games towards being flashy and pretty instead of having a really nice story line.
Dont get me wrong, I love graphics, but I believe in the Final Fantasy series storyline should come first. FF7 has proven to have an awesome storyline, so now it just seems logical that making it pretty as well would + the perfect game no?

signatures are cheap.
get over it just play the ps1 version on psp. But dont freaking put the stupid save point from northern crater in the split room. You will bug and never be able to leave. Im not kidding. Worst bug ever.

Besides, anybody who thinks a remake will never happen is stupid, the only question is if it's on this generation or some other as every (early) FF has been remade for a different console, it's just a matter of time.

Alas, Square is too busy with other projects... It's a shame they waste time with other stuff. They managed to put out a questionable sequel to Final Fansy X, why not (an actually GOOD) a sequel to Final Fantasy VII? Among my favorite games of all time.

They said at this moment they don't have any plans on making the remake of FFVII, all of their departments are busy with other project.

I wish they make a FFX-3 but might see lesbo action with riku and pain.

ps fans petition EVERYTHING omg. it has to be the biggest baby community ever. im starting to think the ps doesnt stand for playstation, and more for petitionstarter s
as for ffvii, who cares. that game was overrated and would rather have something new and original than just a remake of the same boring game.

So whatever they do, I reckon they can scavenge a profit out of it. Better than a few spin-offs they've made, (Dirge of Cerebrus I'm looking at you)

A completly new game is always the best, I mean, even if FF12 had no story, the gameplay was GREAT and that's why I spent so much time on it. I think that remakes are cool, but not as good as new stuff, and FF13 games are looking EXTREME! Star Ocean 4 and Last Remnant are looking GREAT too! I better have all those new titles intead of a remake. Still, an FF7 remake is something square will have to think of. If I were them, I'd do it on the wii and change the controls, LOL, but people would hate me (and I would hate it somebody would do that since I don't own a wii and I don't plan too), so they'll surely release it on the ps3. Maybe they'll give the job to a side-team like they normally do for remakes (you don't have to be a really good producer to make a game that is already done... you just upgrade the graphics, put voice over, put more videos, put more emotion, and tadaaa!!), that would mean they could continue working on high profile while checking, from time to time, with the side-team so they don't screw up everything.
But If square wanna know how many persons want a remake, they should simply put FF7 downloadable on the PSN (for ps3/psp). And for CHEAP (like 2$), for this price, everybody would download it (they just have to add a bonus, like a new secret weapon per character, and I'd buy it 5$, lol, 5$*maybe the 24k people that signed the petition means 120k$ in their pokets for almost no work, and they would have done the survey at the same time, now we're talking.
Anyway, what I want is new games!
ps: Playing wild arms 5 and personna 3. I don't need a next-gen console RIGHT NOW! (I'll need one in 1/2 months, lol )

Honestly, this sentence alone makes me ask just how much the US company knows about the current projects of S-E Japan.

I'm really sick of their crap. If they can remake or port over Final Fantasy I-VI they can F-ing pump out Final Fantasy VII with no problem.
I've come to the point where Squaresoft is loosing it's touch.
I stopped playing Square games right after FFXI... I just lost interest because Squaresoft is starting to be arrogant with their games, and there's no enjoyment like how it use to be back in the days. I don't get that sense of accomplishment and relief like I use to.
Square, you lost 1 loyal fan, and I bet there are more out there who feel the same way and they'll just do what I do and stop buying your games.
Yeah, I'm just 1 person, but I'm 1 person who can make a difference, a small dent in your business.
Farewell Squaresoft.

And so do Xbox fans.
"it has to be the biggest baby community ever."
So, you're implying that every PS3 owner is a baby? (even includes you since you own one).
"im starting to think the ps doesnt stand for playstation, and more for petitionstarter s"
First of all, you pour some sarcasm and mix it with too much biasism (This makes you a loony)
Axomo.a... whatever, isn't it time for you to do something with your life? Isn't it time to grow up and stop fighting about a console? The least you can do is play on your xbox and stop waisting our time.

In Japan, the Japanese pronounce the letters "th" as "s" and this is the cause for all the confusion. For example when a Japanese person says "thank you" they pronounce it "sank you." So all in all the spelling "Aeris" is actually an accurate translation.
