Did you know that there's an American Anime Awards? The first ever actually took place last February 24 during the New York Comic Con. And we guess you will be happy to know that the Best Anime Feature award went to Square Enix's CG film "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children".Available in DVD and UMD format, Advent Children was first released in Japan back in 2005. Thank God, Square Enix decided to bring it to North American shores April of last year. A limited edition copy was recently released as well, complete with never before seen contents like scripts, deleted scenes, and character booklets.
The movie's producer Shinji Hashimoto has nothing but gratitude for fans who have been continuously supporting Advent Children and the whole FF series ever since. The producer shared,
Thanks to the dedication of our loyal fans, Final Fantasy VII has come to enjoy 10 years of undying popularity. We're sure fans enjoyed seeing old friends brought to new life on the screen. As creators, we are very proud of the finished product, and as developers, it is truly an honor to receive an award of this magnitude.
The story of Advent Children took placed two years after Sephiroth attempted to destroy the world. A strange disease appeared then as old enemies rose from the ashes for revenge. Cloud must now return from seclusion and fight evil yet again to save humanity.

The movie was more appealing to the eyes then anything else. But that didnt stop millions from getting it.
Its a great movie to show off because of the visuals, but other then that, for the satisfaction of a good storyline, this movie just pales in comparison.

Secondly, it wasn't THAT good. Sure, I liked it, but it was no masterpiece. Action and visuals were good, plot was terrible. I was also severly dissapointed they decided to "modernize" the characters. Cloud's outfit was a horrible design, Tifa didn't look that much like Tifa, and Barret was beyond recognition other than the fact that he had a gun arm.
..okay im done.

They spent all the money on the CGI and forgot to hire a director.

An Inconvenient Propaganda won an Oscar, so why not AC?
I'm not sure what people were expecting here. It was what it was - a two-hour action addon to a game that had a 30+ hour story. Maybe FMA should have won as it was a good movie, but FFVII/AC just has more fans.
>First of all, can Advent Children really be conisidered anime? I've always thought something had to have at least some sort of drawn look to be an anime
What, like the Appleseed movie? Or how about Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence? Okay, maybe the latter had drawn characters.

Not sure what Advent Children was contending against (nor do I care to check), but Square-Enix was lucky that 2006 didn't have much to offer, or that "killer anime movie" wasn't included in the nominees due to some unexplained reason (read: money).
It's a fun movie, but it's definitely not something that I would remember dearly in my heart for a year.

Final Fantasy VII was a very satisfying game (except perhaps the ending), but the movie was not up to par. The story was thin and the new characters were underdeveloped (and unnecessary).
It looked good, gave us a taste of what FFVII could be like on the PS3, how they might sound and kept us entertained for 90 minutes. If anything it deserved Best Visuals or some similar award.
But of course, this is just another opinion by a person you'll never meet on the internet.

and yeah... the movie was ok... i love cgi, so visually to me it was awesome... but hardly the greatest film ever, and whoever put together the english dub should face a firing squad... there were... what.. only 3 voices done well in that? but the overall mix was horrible. sjb is freakin awesome, but ill never listen to the eng dub again..

Love Movies
Love FF7 (everything about it)
Love CGI
FF7 Advent, was boring. If I wanted a movie about fighting, lacking a story, I'd watch Street Fighter the movie. I didn't like FF7 for it's slick fight sequences, I liked it because of the story, characters and atmosphere.
Feel free to continue the flame war.

I personally believe that Fullmetal Alchemist: Conqueror of Shamballa, deserved the award seeing as it had... ya know... a script. And a director. And a point.
However i do think FFVII: AC deserved an academy award nomination for best soundtrack.
It doesnt matter anyway, The american anime awards are a load of crap. Fans vote for the winner, rather than people who actualy have good taste. Im surprised Naruto didnt sweep. Also "Akira" was nominated for best Anime movie. AKIRA?
