"No remake. No next installment. This ends now!"

So we've got the original FF7 game, Dirge of Cerberus, and Crisis Core. Plus of course, other installments in the FF7 universe, from movies, mangas, anime, and mobile games. (Sorry, Dissidia and KH are not part of FF7 canon, for obvious reasons.)

Looks like those who were wondering whatever happened after the end of Dirge (or any other further plot development in the FF7 universe) may have to wait a long while yet - and by saying "long while" that's an optimistic outlook. More like "never" than "long while" actually.

In the recent screening of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete, producer Shinji Hashimoto noted that this iteration in the FF7 franchise will be the "end for now." Which is somewhat different from what we heard Tetsuya Nomura say recently.

Nomura, in an interview with Famitsu, reveals that "he believes he's done all he wants to do for Advent Children, but he already has ideas for the next product in the compilation." To now hear from Hashimoto that the series is at a close may sound like the nail on the coffin, but still, there's the "for now" clause attached to it.

Chances are, we may not see any new plot developments - game, game spin-off, movie, manga, anime, webisode, or any manner of medium -  for Square Enix's FF7 franchise any time soon. FF7ACC is the end. Period. This however, doesn't rule out a new installment way down the road.

» ...

I just hope that they do a remake that's an exact copy of the original without additional mentions of people that appeared only in the FFVII sequels and prequel.

» ....

I hope the new game will be the last, making Genesis the last boss with an extremely epic fight between him and Cloud (the one that carries the burden of Zack). =D

» WHAT THE HELL?!

Oh god you have got to be kidding me!?

Urgh, I can't stand when things like this happen. I loathe cliffhangers, they're the worst idea any form of media has ever come up with.

Why do they not realise it doesn't guarantee getting to do another piece?

While I hate what Dirge of Cerberus did to the story, I'd much rather it was completed than just abandoned!

» hmmm

i think square enix is saving a full remake/conclusion for a rainy day if things ever start looking bad and they need a trump card to get them back up and fighting. So it could be a long while off.

» wut?

If I recall correctly there was a "to be continued" message in Crissis Core.

by Visigoth - 2009-04-13 12:08
» Continuation to crisis core...

its already been made... its FF7

by Xulap - 2009-04-13 12:08
» And it was continued.

Crisis Core is the prequel of the original Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation One, if you didn't know. So, it was continued...

by andre_euro - 2009-04-13 12:14
» yea...

to be continued into the old ff7, where the storyline continued....

by _YOUR_MOM_ - 2009-04-13 12:24
» .

Yes I do know, but it's putted in a strange way. Why not "Continue in FFVI" (Playstation One/PSX) or something.

by Charlybob - 2009-04-13 12:43
» Because saying that...

It implies they're not ever going to have a remake.

And they really want to be able to do a remake.

It could easily save the company if something goes horribly wrong.

It also stops loads of moaning about how much people want a remake. There is still moaning, yes, but for now, some are sitting quietly and waiting. They'd be in too if you make it sound like there's never going to be one.

» yeah continuation was in ffvii

ffvii continued where crisis core left off.

» Basically what you are saying...

So basically, Gino D., what you are saying is that there is never...NEVER going to be ANY additions to the FF7 universe.... except that there might be.... later on. I think I understand now.
