Activision posts job listing for screenshot retouch artist |
Ó
I think most gamers know that screenshots are often doctored to make them snazzier, even if they don't readily admit it to themselves. It was always just a kind of open secret, but that was until Activision posted this particular job listing on Gamasutra.
The job listing is actually for an "Art Services Screenshot Associate". Basically a guy (or gal) who manages art assets and such. The skills and qualities they're looking for starts out simple enough, until you get to the end, which asks that applicants be able to "Perform advanced retouching of screenshots and teach skills to others as needed".
Sounds pretty bad, doesn't it? Still, the upside here is at least there are still some jobs available in the industry. If you think your Photoshop skills are up to the task, click on the Via link for the complete job listing.

I like the "before" picture better. Also with that specific picture, why change it at all? Just take away all the color in the game and there you go, it's supposedly re-touched.
The fans who retouched the Diablo 3 pic wanted the game to be "darker" and "more mature".
It amuses me that people who pirate software are the ultimate evil in the industry, but make mention of the fact that publishing houses deliberately manipulate media and misconstrue the truth as a standard marketing tactic and the holier than thou out there can't see anything wrong with it.
Dev houses will stoop to any level to maximise profit, just like any other capitalist enterprise - games are no different.
Put this one in the evidence box the next time the purists out there want to step up to the plate to defend the publishers I reckon.
