Activision moving into action genre with new IP |
Ó
Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith has revealed that they have now set their sights on breaking into the action genre with a brand new IP.
Details about the IP are still scarce, but Griffith did share with Develop why Activision, which has become decidedly restrictive when it comes to new IP, made the decision:
New IP is risky – most of them fail. Our approach is balanced and measured, very selective. But the action genre is US$ 4B in size. That will be our next major entry into a space where we are significantly under-developed.
Considering Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick's approach to games, this is sure to be turned into as milkable a franchise as possible. Keep checking back here for more updates.

I hate the abbreviation 'IP'. It's like 'sandbox' WTF??!???!??
/rant off
what's an IP
It stands for Intellectual property. What that means... I'm not the best person to say that because I'll start mumbling about crap I don't totally get myself.
Intellectual property means exactly what it says, the creations of your mind are your property, and you own exclusive rights.
IE George Lucas created Star Wars in his mind, he owns the intellectual property of Star Wars, meaning he owns and controls every aspect of Star Wars
That's the gist of it, if you want to know more just google intellectual property. But when game devs throw it around they're just referring to creating a new game or franchise, not the rights themselves
Starcraft Ghost....
screw new IP's develop the ones you have more.....starcraft has lot's of milk in it...especially with SC 2 coming up....
cool, now i know
