A look at Earth Defense Force 2 Portable's multiplayer |

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon isn't the only Earth Defense Force game coming out this year. PlayStation Portable owners will also get to experience the satisfaction of obliterating giant insect invaders in Earth Defense Force 2 Portable, a remake of the original Earth Defense Force 2 for PlayStation 2.
D3 Publisher is of course adding new features and such into the portable remake. Among these are a pair of local multiplayer modes that support up to four players each.
One such mode is co-op, where you and up to three other players can help each other weather the insect storm. By progressing through missions, players will earn better, more high-powered weapons. If a team member falls, another player can revive him or her by using up half of their own life. All of the game's missions can be played in co-op mode.

Meanwhile, in the four-player battle mode players have to take out each other instead of the giant beasties you normally encounter in the campaign levels. High-powered guns will be key, of course, but so are proper strategizing and making use of the game's environments.

Apat from the two modes mentioned above, Earth Defense Force 2 Portable will also feature new missions and enemies not in the PS3 original. That's in addition to all 71 missions that the original had.
Earth Defense Force 2 Portable will be released in Japan this spring. D3 Publisher is also releasing a double pack bundle that includes two full copies of the game at a discounted price. As of now, D3 Publisher has yet to announce if Earth Defense Force Portable will make it to North America. Since Insect Armageddon is, maybe we'll still see it here too.

In fact that pretty much describes my feelings about many D3 titles when they're at their best.
Millions of dollars of FMV, voice acting and advertising is still no substitute for creative rearrangment of the basic aspects of fun and appealing gameplay.
