800 jobs to be created in Ubisoft's new Toronto Studio |
Ó
Ubisoft has announced that they have plans to open a studio in Toronto, Ontario to expand operations and make use of creative talent in the region. Another great thing about this new studio is that it'll create 800 new jobs in the next decade. Win-win situation right there.
So says Yves Guillemot, president and CEO:
We are in an excellent position to grow and after extensive analysis we are thrilled to have reached an agreement with the government of Ontario to found our new studio in Toronto. The city is one of North AmericaÂ’s economic and cultural epicenters and our expectations are high. WeÂ’re excited to be able to count on the exceptional local talent, who will contribute to our accelerated growth and will have a profound impact on the video game industry with the excellence of their creativity.
Ubisoft will be getting the support of Ontario's local government, which will invest CA$ 263 million over ten years into the company. Ubisoft, on the other hand, will be investing more than half a billion Canadian dollars into the studio, which will begin operations later this year. " “Today’s announcement marks a strategic move for Ubisoft as we continue to expand our internal development force," said Guillemot.
Ubisoft Toronto will be working on AAA games and will collaborate with the city's film industry veterans. The new studio is expected to contribute to Ubisoft's convergence strategy, which involves extending its brands to books, comics, short films, and other products.
