3D Cube

Update: My apologies for adding the wrong images. I've updated the images.

alatnet from our forums has made a demo of a 3D Cube. Although nothing actually useful, it's just one of those nice things which you can keep on your PSP. I personally love these demos, they show how much you can do with programming. This one for example, uses the PSP's graphics processor to show a cube.

Anyways, here's what he had to say regarding the release:

I have created this 3D program mostly from scratch.
This version features a cube (more shapes will be added in later versions), 2 different wireframes, 3 different vertex points, XYZ axis lines, and a misc. display that shows the rotation of the X,Y,and Z axises and translation Z.

The controls are easy to figure out. Expect to see more shapes, color options and more control tweaking in future updates.

Have a look at a few screenshots which I took:

Hasn't this cube always been included on luaplayer? Sounds like a copycat to me. And what use is this? Points to PSPupdates for posting useless news

There are quite a few of rotating models as of yet, maybe try something different this time =)

PSP games show off what is possible with programming as well... Since when is this news? Can we "jump it down" too, to keep this stuff somewhere else?

This is pretty pointless... I mean what does it do? I mean it's not using the media engine or anything, and more useless shapes to look at in upcoming versions?

My Apologies. The demo is actually different. I mistakenly uploaded the images from the original 3D cube.

@ 4: its not for you, the programmer alatnet made it to see what he could do himself with his own programming knowledge, I would imagine.

The 3d cube included in LUA is crap. This one here is a lot better looking and a bit more complex. Congrats to the programmer.

I knew something was wrong. Anyways. Good job on the coding. Now it would really be nice if someone could use this to make a game

Tsk...Tsk...it seems that almost every commentor doesnt know how hard it is to program in 3D. Again, as I said on your post, good job!

it's not really something to post here about really. I remember an early homebrew 3D game on the PSP (before they knew how to use the GU, ie, custom software 3D engine), with a complete world with water and a pirate ship or something. That was impressive. This is just old news. Good job for making this tho, i know it's not that easy, but as i said, it's not really front page news material.

We don't have "other pages" anyways. There's only the front page. PSPUpdates tries to bring news on "everything" not just what certain people want to see or whatnot.

gotta love the fact that people who cant program flame those who can just becuase it is not usefull to them.

I know how to program and can tell you that a program of this type is very simple to make, if you know how to do it, what with the equations and whatnot.

I was reffering to C. In Lua, it is VERY simple to do this sort of thing. Perhaps I should make a ten-minute "cube demo" and get a front page article!

What with the GU libaries pre-made for you... wow.

Perhaps the texturing is a little bit good? I guess that this is good code for begginers to learn from... :/

# I don't get this, either.Guest 2006-05-05 16:42
Yeah, it does seem a bit odd for an update; I mean, a cube in 3D isn't really all that special. I managed to get one running in about 2 days, a textured+lit in an additional 2.

Still, congrats to the programmer about getting a news post about his work, and it's good to see someone else actually doing something in 3D! Seriously, what is it with homebrew and 2D apps/games? You have a whole chip dedicated to 3D in there, make some use of it!

You're full of it. It's pretty much the same in both languages.

.. People who can't program for ***** should just shut the fsuck up.

Do you even know how long it takes to get the faces of the cube right?! I had to fracking pad it in order to get the purple side correct!!! Plus, im modifying the code so that it will have a few new 3D objects, some more options, and a way to load additional 3d objects without a really long code (except for the 3D objects, cus they are pretty long). Anyway... To any flamers, i give you this question: HAVE YOU EVEN TRIED IT?!

I rest my case.

# So called "programmers":Guest 2006-05-05 19:55
Those people who said making a 3D object is 'easy', you are most likely freeloading off of a library that practically does it for you. Although this is hard to do, and better than other cubes, it doesn't warrant a front page. The front page should be for proper releases, not bare-bones demos.

I'm not a programmer (thanks to all who are and ALL that they do) but I wonder if there would be any way to make a visual to be set to music? Somthing similar to windows media player? I just think that would be the shiznite. Anyway sorry posting off subject but i would really love something like that.

Again, thanks to all who put in late nights and hard work on whatever development just for the free enjoyment of all of us losers that arent smart enough to figure it out on our own. Keep it up, some people appreciate all that you do.

#24: of course there is, just look @ pspradio or the lua program (forgot name) which acts as an equalizer. if you manage to convert the waveforms with a say winamp plugin and its formula, you're in.

or you just use pspradio-

I agree with #21, that guy's obviously full of it, and if he isn't, he's an ass for putting down original coding for anything (including a great 3d cube demo)

Its news, and more 3d source.

You can also find it as a WINDOWS SCREENSAVER!!

Anyone doesn't notice that yet?

No, it's not news. It has been done a zillion times before, and also on the PSP. And yes, we have other pages, they are called "forums". I'm not stating that i don't think it's a good job from the author, cause YES, i am indeed a programmer myself, and i know it ain't that easy. There has allready been numerous releases of 3D projects with both custom software 3D engines, and ones that use the GU, that's why this ain't news at all.

Ok. If you really think I can't program, I'll tell you that I made a 3D cube for a GRAPHING CALCULATOR in C. The calculator was 8 MHz!

Come on!

"HAVE YOU EVEN TRIED IT?!"

Yes. And yes, it has been done before. Ever tried on ps2?

It doesn't matter the platform, unless it was one of the early programs on the system to prove it is possible, this is *not* a newsworthy item. I'm glad you're coming along well in learning to program. I think it would be great if you started writing a series of tutorials or something from what you learn. Such a series would be more appropriate for the news. Or maybe the source to a 3D model viewer, or export script for a format you developed, etc.

Don't get me wrong, it isn't that I'm not happy for you. And I'm aware that well over 9/10 people reading it couldn't do the same, but do you think it should be on the front page of any site? It would be nice to see some 3d games, and less LUA stuff.

The news posts are made for the READERS.

and we READERS don't need to know that some guy made a useless crappy cube for the lua player.

and we don't care if it's complicated or not.

we want NEWS and when you say NEWS, you mean interesting things happening.
