2007 means more Jack Thompson lawsuits

Jack Thompson. Hallo! The virtue vigilante is at it again. This time, he's decided on what to add to his list of new year's resolutions, and opted to share it with the public. You can guess what it's all about, we're sure.

Despite failed attempts to get video games labeled as public nuisances, Jack Thompson is vowing to do more of the same in 2007. A recent emailed press release assures us of his continuing efforts to target M-rated games, even going so far as to call his attempt to make Bully a public nuisance a practice run.

His email reads:

ThompsonÂ’s 2006 suit to stop the sale of Take-Two/RockstarÂ’s Columbine simulator Bully was just a practice run for what is to follow. The courtÂ’s order of the production of the Bully game prior to its commercial release sets the precedent for what Thompson will do again, but this time with Mature-rated titles that the Federal Trade Commission has recently found are being sold to children across America 42% of the time!

Since his continued legal presence against videogames is basically assured for next year, the only thing left to wonder about is what games he'll be suing for 2007. Our main predictions: the next Grand Theft Auto game from Take-Two Interactive, for obvious reasons, Halo 3, because Master Chief hides his genocide behind a mask, and Mario Mario, because he's a shroom-sniffing communist.

Jack Thompson sues Rockstar? Oh Please!!! The only reason Jack Thompson is sueing rockstar is because he is retarded, becuase he is so retarded he can't play GTA.

As for Mario he wants to butt F**k Mario so hard that Mario's Moustache falls off.

Damn I hate Jack Thompson and the way he blames video for all the troubles in the world.

» Thompson is a dumbass

Without games, I think its highly likely that we would have more aggressive people than we do now, and their ownly outlet would be real violence.

If you grow up without something because you've been told its bad, your even more likely to get involved in it later in life.

One of my own relatives is a great example. Her parents are good people, but WAY strict and controlling, wouldn't even let her watch tv shows such as the simpsons, because its too destructive (this is at the age of 16 btw). Sure enough, as soon as she was able to leave home, she did, and became a drug addict, knocked up by her ***** boyfriend that beat her.

I guarantee that wouldn't have happened if she had a normal childhood.

Jack Thompson, will your son turn out the same way? Probably.

Who's fault will it be? Take-two or your own? Don't be such a dumbass, instead of trying to ban the games, educate parents about the potential dangers and improve the laws with regards to selling to minors. Parents need to learn wether their own child can handle such games, and moderate their use.

My parents were very sensible, if I had wanted GTA when I was under 10 years old they wouldn't have allowed me. But as I grew older they learned to trust me and my moral judgement and I was playing any game I wanted by the time I was 15.

Do I have the urge to kill people? HELL NO! Do I still enjoy it in a video game? Sure, if its a good game. But I had a normal childhood and can tell the difference between virtual violence and real violence. A childhood I bet Jack Thompsons own son isn't getting.

Why is he talking in the third person? The article says it's his email, and he keeps referring to himself as "Thompson"...

» ....please

this is just one of those people that will never change, no matter how much you prove them wrong....

Jack Thompson (whose name should be bleeped out as a curse word), why don't you go after the "movie" or "pornography" market instead of the "video game" market?! Because he's got something personal about the gaming market... but what could that be?

Maybe he could never get past the first level of Donkey Kong back in the 80s, so he's taking it out on all of gaming.

Yo hero;-

All my mates are on EMA and so am i. England is the best place to live, i'll tell you that right now. We get paid £30 a week just to attend college, and we get £100 bonuses almost every term. I also work part time, i get around £150 a week and if you add the EMA, i get around £300, and i'm just a full time student. I spend it mainly in games or clothings. I'm gonna save aroud £500 for ps3. I bet americans wish they had a good and caring system like the british do.

» Hes got a point

We all love games, including me, an i've been playing for two decades now. I've played just about every genre out there, and after seeing it all develop over that time, i have to say that wether anyone likes it or not, Jack Thompson DOES have a point. But its part of a much bigger picture. Its not just some games alone, but a combination of specific Games, Television, Movies and Music. I've seen it steadily change and get worse over time. The truth is it really all boils down to greed. Rockstar know fine well who'll buy their games, an they also know why. They'll obviously never admit it, an they can say what they like to settle the media, politicians do that all the time, but at the end of the day, they still get rich.

Blaming the parents an saying they should be the ones to answer for their kids playing these games is a fair argument, but theres no way it can be applied to everyone. As a lot of parents are just rushed stupid by the stupid demands of modern living to be able to supervise all the time.

Movie's an tv dont help, Lower ratings on movies = more people can go see them an buy the dvds. 12A rating = Money strategy. Remember Aliens? Anyone remember the Aliens toys? Hmm, wasn't that film an 18 certificate? How could there be toys out for it?

by Koru-Sama - 2006-12-30 05:04
» ok, here's how stupid J*** T******* is...

He is making the claim that violent video games is causing violence in children..... so he proposes to ban violent video games from being made.

I'll make the claim that alcohol sold in liquor stores is causing children to get drunk.... so i propose to ban the sale of alcohol in the United States.

Do these two scenarios seem pretty identical in their proposition? They should, because neither of these claims fix the issue that's complained about nor will they help the economy. These propositions, if accepted by the legal system, will only CAUSE MORE OF what they're trying to prevent...

I'm sure some people remember the Prohibition of 1920, well... they'd also remember the speakeasies and bootleggers that resulted from the act (at least until 1933 when the law was overturned by the 21st Amendment). I'm only saying this because a form of those entities will show itself if the ban of violent video games became a reality here in the United States.

So my reply to you, J*** T*******, is that you should either go find a better case for your trial (because the excuses you're using right now aren't legit enough to win anything in the court of law) or you give up and SHUT UP.

Jack is such an idiot. bully is not an M rated game and it't nowhere near a "columbine simulator" you wanna see something worth protesting? you jack, and your obsession with eradicating our 1st amendment.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

it's just entertainment!

» I agree

I also think that violent games are a good thing. Not only are they a lot of fun to play, but they give me a way to burn off steam. Without them, I'd probably be a serial killer by now! BTW, Jack Thompson should seriously change his first name to "Jackass". Now that would be funny.

Cool, he is only increasing the fame of a GTA game each time one of them is released on the home consoles & PCs! Lolololol! Rockstar really do like & hate him at the same time! Weird!

And those hair, eyebros & mouth of Jack's do sure look funny in a way...
