12-year Duke Nukem pre-order may end in disappointment |
Ó
When Slash000 paid US$ 10 to pre-order Duke Nukem Forever
through his local GameStop, little did he know that he would have to
wait 12 years to wait for an answer. Unfortunately for him, the answer
might be a disappointing "no" now that 3D Realms has run out of money
and can no longer continue the game's development.Ironically called Duke Nukem Forever, it has practically taken forever for the game to come out. It has been in development for 12 years now, and has even received top honors at Wired Magazine's Vaporware Awards for seven years out of the last eight, becoming somewhat of a running joke in the industry.
In spite of the long wait, 3D Realms was able to produce screenshots and trailers for the game, making it look like there was still hope. But now that 3D Realms has closed down, things are looking bleaker than ever.
"It would have been nice to see another Duke Nukem game, but given they had more than 12 years it's just incompetence of the highest order," Guardian Games writer Steve Boxer told BBC. "Sadly, Duke Nukem Forever was the most aptly named title in the history of games. Now, it's just Duke Nukem Never."
Take Two still owns the publishing rights, but there's no word on finding Forever a new team to develop it. On the other hand, Duke Nukem Trilogy (PSP, DS) development is still continuing, or so they say.

say this on yahoo like 4 hrs ago.....
but anyways, the guy should of just let it go and used that money for something better....
There are countless studios who would be happy to finish DNF, everyone loves the Duke. I don't think T2 will have trouble finding one
even though GTA IV was over-hyped. i would like to see what rockstar games can do with it. seems like the right company to produce such a vulgar title. i love duke nukem.
With as much information as the public has on the game, they could scrap the entire game, start over, and just tag it Duke Nukem Forever and we would be no wiser. They would be pretty stupid to give up the free publicity this game has gotten over the past 12 years. I was 8 when this was announced .. I'm in college now. I'll buy it.
I was 12 when this was announced, still actually cared about the Duke... This has to be a conspiracy though, no way does it take that long to make one god damn game.. even if it does I don't think that bodes well for the company. obviously lol... bye bye 3D realms
Not enough people care about Duke Nukem anymore, i mean all the controversy with the first ones is pretty much forgotten now and i think they 5 years too late to cash in, and it's going to take a mighty game to meet a 12 year hype, but i'm still hoping someone takes over.
in the pre order receipt it says it was preorder in 2001 so it took 8 years not 12
With good marketing and a lot of it they could easily revive the Duke. Get the old players to remember Duke Nukem 3D and get new players to say "hey that looks cool". They just have to have something to show. And TakeTwo has deep pockets when it comes to marketing
Everyone is too busy playing cooking mama.
f*ck cooking mama. she can shove a carrot up her *wat.
The game was in development for 12 years, not the pre order.
