Recently, 0okm's been showing up (and down) across our PSP blog like white on rice. He's everywhere - as pretty much the rest of the PSP homebrew gods are. One of the more recent updates to his site reveals some interesting details on the new blue PSP (PSP-1000 MB), which was released last December 21.

For some of you guys who might have received this specimen of PSP for Christmas, you might be glad to hear a couple of things. Here's 0okm's notes on the hardware:

PCB Ver. : TA-086
CPU Core : CXD2967GG
Media Engine : CXD5026-203GG
MCP : K5E5658ACM-D060 1.8V/1.8V

Test report :
Factory FW3.01 (BoxCode M)
can HardDown to FW1.50 :)

The core of the matter here are his test reports, and they're pretty much self-explanatory. The new PSP already comes with a homebrew-biting firmware 3.01, but the thumbs-upper here is that he says that he can downgrade the system firmware to enable homebrew at 1.50.

So, as things stand now, it's not just a white Christmas, but a blue one too!

OMFG NOT FIRST

But anyhow, this is awesome. Wouldn't it also be plausible to upgrade to 3.02 OE-A?

# KonamiStyle bundled PSP 3.01 the same?Guest 2006-12-26 10:50
I just got my Konamistyle bundled PSP and it came loaded with 3.01. Signs point to it being a TA-082 (I can see the "IC00013" clearly in the top right). So...would this work?

yeah what does this mean that he can harddown it? if he could do that, doesn't that mean anyone with 3.01 can downgrade?

# calm downGuest 2006-12-26 10:59
He only said blue psp with 3.01 and ta-086. Nothing else has been confirmed yet. Just wait and see what happens, heck he hasnt even released a downgrader for the blue psp.

PS. What is a hardown?

harddown = modchip right??

Reply

# A harddownGuest 2006-12-26 11:02
I belive it involves removing a chip from the psp, editing it and soldering it back on. Not the kind of thing most of the public are able to do.

Also,

Harddown = Hardware Downgradable

SoftDown = Software Downgradable

Harddown is essentially a hardware downgrade method, unless you have good technical knowledge of the PSP and are willing to take it apart it's not gonna help.

# wow !Guest 2006-12-26 11:11
well this is good news as i have a 3.00 firmware psp and a 2.81 firmware psp so i can have one on offical psp firmware and one on the new 3.02 e0

all when this new downlgarder is released, if it can downgrade all non ta psp as we might beable to upgrade to 3.01 and the dowgrade to 1.50 then to 3.02oe, so i grabbed my 3.01 eboots allready :D

Unfortunately not everyone has access to expensive SMT tools. I'd be doing this too if I did. Its been well known by 0okm ages ago that TA-086 ran just fine flashed down to 1.5, so this is old news.

It's never required to remove the nand anymore.

The points are available on the motherboard where the UP connects to.

Still not the sort of theing the average Joe would like to do.

well this is useful to who ? Just 0okm no one else has the tools to harddown a psp, pretty good find I guess but useless to like 99% of the psp community. Maybe he will offer a downgrade service, but then his e-mail will get hacked and he will stop.

Anyone with good soldering skills, $1000, and a chip programmer and very talented skills can downgrade.

# this news is misleading most peoplexche78x 2006-12-27 01:45
this news is misleading most people!

specially the homebrew-ridden ones!

downgraders released to the public are SOFTDOWNS

or Software Downgrade.

NOT Hard-downgraders, which to give all of you an idea is to manually take apart a piece of hardware (ex.PSP) and modify its internal wares, such as replacing a FLASH1 chip with a mod-chip. in ookm's case, PERHAPS he is wiring the NAND chip to a "special computer equipment" that rewrites the BIOS of the PSP and creates a 1.5 firmware revision in it. or he replaced the flash chip with the same chip that has 1.5

so all you 2.81 or higher people can only wait for a proper SOFTDOWN downgrader for your psp's. except if your a very close friend of ookm! ^_^

# this is greatGuest 2006-12-27 02:56
i know what a harddown and softdown are, this is a harddown, but an amazingly simple one, i could do this myself with a cut off usb cable i believe, (if those points are what i think they are)

i believe the points he shows in the picture are the points you need to access the internal memory... something most psp's dont have

If there is a way to re-flash the on board nand or flash rom by soldiering on some wires in. It would be nice for ookm to release a schmatic and and a tutoiral on how he did it. I'm shue some enthusistes out there woiuld not be to worried about the possible bricking of such a hack :-)

@Paka

Actually, he's correct. Harddown means it has to be hardware modified, like a modchip. Too bad QJ has perpetuated the retarded idea that harddown means LOL ANYONE CAN DOWNGRADE!

When you buy the psp? How can you tell it's harddown-ed? So what is the mobo if it's harddown-ed. Chip changed, what software to use for softdown.

Ex.

Got a blue PSP with IC1003. Running on 2.71.
