The Ghetto Stick: A minor update |
Ó
Yep, the thing has an outer casing under the stick now. It's really starting to look like something you could buy from a retailer. Some people have commented that if he did manage to put this accessory erm... mod up for sale, he'll make millions. Well what do you guys think? Would you really buy one? Or would you rather wait until Joe puts a tutorial up so you could put your soldering skills to use?
Some people have been screaming mad though, and they are demanding that Joe post schematics and tutorials, just to prove his project's legit. That's the internet for you. Well, we here at QJ don't really want to take sides on that issue. So far as it looks, the vid looks real. You guys make up your mind about that on your own.
Anyway, we're still waiting for that steering wheel "accessory." Keep up the good work Joe!

Secondly it's not a 2nd analog stick in the sense that it can do different things to the current stick, check out:
http://pspupdates.qj.net/PS2-s-analog-stick-ported-to-the-PSP-/pg/49/aid/69065
You'll see the 2 sticks perform the same function, it's just easier on the thumb.

It would be close to impossible to make another stick that could be used in combination with the existing nub, especially as commercial games aren't developed with the capability of two analog sticks.
The only way that could be possible is with major hardware modifications and homebrew would have to be developed specifically for the second analog stick.

The one that comes with it is cool enough for me and has some resistance to it. It reminds me of the Dreamcast's analog stick and that's my favorite one. The PS2's analog stick is too flimsy. I hate the loose feel it has and actually prefer third party controller analog sticks to the original.

@Reneid Klein
The PS2's analog stick is the best for its smoothness, 2nd to the Xbox S controller, just because the xbox controller has better thumb grips imo.

Geez, a lot of you ppl are dumb. This isn't a completely seperate analog stick, it just piggy-backs from the nub. You should look into things more before you make yourself look like a fool by posting your (obviously) uninformed replies.
Also, placement isn't an issue, you could place it just about anywhere on the casing that isn't already occupied. Joe just placed it where it's most comfortable to him.

At least YOU get it, Samball91. Actually, All of the buttons CAN be moved "outside the box" (though I'm not sure if the D-PAD would work with a literal analog joystick -- it'd be closer to an atari joystick; they could be moved to the other side though.)
What I'm thinking is an entire mod for a PS1/2 controller... it'd take some work, but it IS possible (minus the extra R2 and L2 buttons); and if FW3.0 is going to emu psx then maybe sony will give us a usb controller of their own? Maybe not...
How did he make that slick casing? I'm impressed!
