PSP USB Gadgets Connector mod: connect any USB gadget to your handheld |
Ó
Don't think that the USB attachment on Sony's PlayStation Portable is only good for charging your handheld. Modder Osole on the PSP-Generation forums was able to come up with a new mod which allows you to connect just about any USB gadget into a modded adaptor added on the top of your handheld. The tutorial found on the PSP-Generation forums enumerates the different components needed and explains the steps in how to go about completing this mod on your handheld.
The main point of the mod is to basically install a diode and establish a sort of electrical protection onto the PSP's USB slot. You can then connect a small 5-pin USB adaptor from there, which you can connect to most USB-compatible gadgets.
We would have to agree with the modder's comment, which stated that "we are [getting] closer and closer to the PSP toaster" thanks to the results of this rather impressive mod. You can view several videos of the USB Gadgets Connector mod in action through the source link that we've provided below.
If you plan on turning your playing Frankenstein and configuring your PSP in the same way, please take note of the detailed instructions found on the modder's thread on the PSP-Generation forum before you try it.

Does this just make the psp supply power output to the USB? Or does it support data too (ala external hard drives)?
An english translation of this would be wicked
looking a bit deeper, it looks like the diode just jury rigs it so that the power pin on the psp's usb can act as a supplier of power, rather than just a reciever.
Alas, no external memory for us, just useless gadgets. I wonder how long the battery on a PSP could keep a can of coke cold? LOL
It looks to me like all it does is supply power to those worthless USB 'toys'.
I guess it would appeal to people that want to look at porn on their PSP and use that USB 'massager' at the same time. Other than vibration satisfaction this mod looks worthless...
this will be good for somebodys cell phone battery dead?
no, just no...

for an Hbrw.
thanks a lot.
this is not for this coment i am sory

Just buy a universal USB adaptor kit...
He actually installed a diode so the PSP would actually supply power. Plugging in a converter !+ Same.
That there is a Se pluggins .prx that can let you turn the power to the usb connection off and on at will. This would be great for charging up a cell on the fly or a micro rc car/plane. I have 4 psp's with full batts. the spares ere bricks I got fo 20-50 each.
for a toaster you are going to need like 50 psp's in series.
This is not a freaking mod. There is one USB A-B and B-A adapter that comes in a 15-piece kit that has all the connectivity adapters like Ethernet-USB, USBAB,USBBA, etc. - it cost around $17 and it comes in a big transparent plastic case. So stop saying you made the mod. I think I have that same adapter some where in a box. Also, yes it will give out power because is an active port, just gotta enable USB on the PSP menu. PPL gotta stop taking credit for stuff thats already made.
why they feel you are wrong.
Why are your stars missing!?
I don't care to research this stuff but...
Its cos this actually IS a mod, the French guy (lol I forgot whom I am supposed to address) installed a diode to make the PSP (I forgot the part xD) supply power, not just receive it.
