Remember the FPS PSP mod that Tony Hoang (aka PvP) released last month? The modder dropped us a line earlier to announce that he's decided to redo the project, adding even more tweaks and features to further personalize the FPS PSP. Here's a short list of what's new:
  • external analog sticks (relocated)
  • speaker grill in UMD drive to protect speaker
  • speaker (smaller than grill) in UMD drive to provide a ring of nothing around the speaker
  • LEDs in UMD drive
  • trigger LEDs
  • rumble mod that is hooked up to the hold button (push power button to hold if u want rumble and if u don't want rumble don't do anything after powering it on)
  • built-in microphone
  • all black design
On a related note, PvP mentions that the current build's LEDs burned out - they're going to be replaced soon. PvP also sent in a video to demonstrate how the PSP handles. Enjoy the video. Click on the source link below to read up on this mod's full details.

Very nice

Very good work, thanks for sharing it.

.

It doesn't look so portable with those joysticks anymore... and how many psp games really need the fps rig. Is it even worth the effort to modify it. I like the speaker rig though.

I agree, the redesigned PSP is a much better design than the old one. The analog sticks used to be so far away from your hand that it would be uncomfortable, now with the new position I believe it would be a joy to play FPS. Yes the speaker is quite loud, but whos complaining?

Looks Good But........

I have a good question wouldn't the analog sticks fall off after the PSP is been in your pocket as that may happen as they looked bloody loose and the speaker is a little bit too loud as the videos sound crackles when the sound was played meaning bloody loud and bloody good. Good for people who like music and FPS's not good for people who are always on the move. And the rumble mod doesnt it use more batteries thus increasing battery drain all theses mod must make the PSP's battery go flat in a hour. All of these are my suspicions and i think they will be answered by someone. Thanks in advance if someone answers. Bountyhunter

what

Making a psp throw up at a push of a button would be hard to do, yet it doesn't make it any better than what it was before. It looks awkward where the joystick is. I mean it doesn't look comfortable but that's just me.

...

Looks worthless...plus it isn't going to make FPS any easier to play, as the 2nd analog stick is just tied into the face buttons...big deal. Its the same control scheme with the analog sticks in an awkward position...what a waste of time...you could be do something much better with your time.. :(

looks like someone hasnt played any FPS games at all. that design is meant to increase your sucess rate in FPS games. i guess u can play FPS with the face buttons but what fun is that

looks worthless... it isnt going to make our qj experience any more enjoyable, as its just a flamer trying to be clever....what a waste of time......you could be doing something much better with your time

LEDs don't burn out

After a nuclear war, *****roaches could light the world with LEDs. How could these LEDs have burned out?

LEDs do burn out without a resistor. thats why all the guides say you need a resistor. i think he was just testing them and they blew who knew. but best of luck with him

oops, this idea

great principle, and a worthy cause but watch the video, there is lag on the second joystick. This is too large a compensation for a second joystick and makes the fps even harder to play than with one joystick and the face buttons.

there is no delay. it all depends on how u mod the potentiometer on the right analog stick. the wider u make it the further u have to push so that u can get a response. if u mod it too short barely touching the analog stick would cause a reaction. and the right analog stick is digital btw.

recap

the rumble mod doesnt drain the battery that much, it only uses 3.8v which around ur typical LED voltage. people do read the work log thats on the link before asking questions. ive posted up tuts for doing the FPS PSP that will explain everything. and that is true about modding the potentiometer. the wide it is the more delayed response and shorter it is the quicker the response. i found that cuttin it about a 1cm is perfect for me. and no i dont put this in my pocket so its not a problem. im designing another psp which will have the Acidmod's A2D board so itll have another analog stick modded into it under the X button. yes my LEDs did burn out because i was testing them without a resistor. im planning to buy some new ones and just install them when i have the chance. any other questions about this mod, go to the link provided and ask away

not cool

that looks realllllly uncomfortable. i help my psp and put my thumbs where they were in the video and that didnt feel good at all.
by - 2007-08-22 07:12:55
f

actually if u look at the pics, the analog stick is only about maybe half an inch south of where it should be. i dont think it would be that uncomforable i mean he was holding it the same way i hold it.
by - 2007-08-22 10:15:44
yes they do

they do if they have too much power going to them, they will burn out over time.
