Introducing the PSP right analog stick mod |
Ó
Joe Stranger, creator of the "ghetto stick" version has returned. This time, we're talking about a right analog stick for Sony's strangely versatile and hackable handheld.
Yes folks, right analog stick. He sent us a video link for you guys to see it and says that the modification works fine, though FPS fans might have some trouble with it as the right trigger is hard to reach because of the stick's placement. Still, that's some fine work.
Of course, Joe Stranger may have done the labor, but he also wanted us to inform everyone that it isn't all him. Cyberpyrot from Acidmods developed the modification, and both Joe Stranger and every PSP gamer who loves mods would probably like to give him props for thinking up the mod.
For now though, enjoy the video, and just so you know: it might be called an analog stick, but it's actually DIGITAL.

Look's painful to me, kinda takes the portable out of it too!
How does it look painful? Thats a pretty cool video though.
Great work there mate, now if only a tuturial of this was available....
So someone is sitting around thinking of ways to mod the PSP and this is what they come up with?
I mean the level of sophistication that this must require kind of makes me mad that people who could possibly be coding insane programs simply aren't and maybe there a lot of stuff that WE don't see...
theres 4 wires mmmkay? and those 4 wires in the analog stick connect to the triangle, square, x, and circle buttons. its not rocket science.
duo ghetto stick it should call ;) nice work , is there a guide for this??
looks odd, and hard to hold the psp like that. Adding a 2nd analog that actually is worth using should be placed evenly to the opposing side of the first default analog nub. Anything else is just cool as a gimmick, but not really worth using it to do any real gaming on.
Acidmods on google. I'm not permitted to offer the link directly, you see.
dmna that guy is good at hardware mods...he ough'ta become a pro at it!
http://www.acidmods.com/tutorials/PSPUSB.ASP
Now THAT is a mod I'd do!! Hell's yeah, when there is instructions for this out, I'll do it. Great job man, and all those who helped him out!
And to the rest of you: Don't diss on peoples work, whether it be homebrew or mods. Thank 'em for there effort! And if you don't like it, don't be mean.
nice name switch
BAD. A$$.
Holy crap thats very crazy stuff! :S
but it's still digital most of my rpoblem is playing battlefroont with that digital thing, the left one it's prettyu cool anyway :)
Stop trying to impersonate our staff. It will result in a permanent I.P ban and a heat seeking missile coming straight for your car.
That's *****ing sick. Good job.
high five
instead of having on the side, have it double-side-taped onto the xO/\[] keys
ahahha doublesided stop over the keypad...so lame
Onto the "right analog". Now that is awesome.
Just because you understand how electronics work, can read a wiring diagram and actually understand what it's telling you, know how to solder and come up with a hardware mod doesn't mean you "could possibly be coding insane programs", they're two completely different things... Hell, I can read and understand wiring diagrams and solder, but I'll be damned if I could even code a 'hello world' (and I took several C classes in college, I just couldn't grasp the concept I guess).
Isn't it interesting that you can't see the left side of the PSP? With all the hoaxes abound you never see the left side.
I know this mod is possible, and I even believe that it's real, however the Devil's Advocate in me has to point this out.
Hate me, flame me, whatever. I love this stuff anyway.
Be Well,
DrNicket
Well then why don't you open up your PSP and try to find the extra space in the case for it and figure out how to wire it the way you want it and when you finish it then come back and criticize these guys for the things they create.
Thats awesome!
thats the best one i've seen on here, great job
This guys' mods are awesome. They're very well done. So you say it may be a waste of time and not worth it, but if he enjoys modding it, let him.
the way youd have to hold your psp mayb ?
Not that this is really relevant, but wouldn't it be interesting to, lets say, move the analog stick to the back of the PSP so that you can control it from there? I would try it, but Im not a modder, so I figure I'll suggest it and see if it catches on.
Also, parts of the way the joystick moves and the game responds doesn't look quite right, but I've never played the game so I probably dont' know what Im talking about.
what a piece of *****
i think this may be fake. on the grounds that he never shows the left analog stick again after he attaches the right one and it controls the same as the left one. which is pretty pointless.
OMG!!!You can see his face quite clearly begining from 31 second!Sony is gona find em all!You people r gona get pwn3d!
P.s.this mod is quite sexy, but i didn't see both of the analogs working together -.- So i dont know...
a dual analog mod

These's guys have some sick mods and they make custom jewels too!!
they sais that the tutorial can be found on ACID MODS.....
freaking unbeleivable.... you are a TOOL... a TOOL i say....

I prefer walking with the left thumbstick. I'm not used to walk with the right one, but it's still a pretty cool mod.
good job.
Not everyone is going to read that deep into it you idiot. No need to resort to calling people dumb ass' or tool's. Grow up.
He shows the dpad movements, then he show how the new stick replaces the dpad, not the analog. Its such a simple mod with a detailed tutorial. there is no way its fake, its to simple.
JUST BUY A PS if u want that analoge ***** so bad!
Did anyone notice in the video that when he was moving the right analog stick that the game was moving the character, not the vertical and horizontal pitch....meaning that the right analog stick was doing the same functions of the left analog stick.
actual the left moved the targeting retical and the right moved forward reverse and side to side.. kinda like straffing..
Well, considering Triangle, Cirlce, X and Square where controlling the movement, I think the analogue stick works... But I dunno, you could be right, you could be wrong...
He's entitled to his opinion, and I somewhat agree with him. If you read what he said you would know he wasn't bashing the mod, or saying it was easy to accomplish. Honestly you have to admit it would be hard to play any game on the psp with those analogs sticking out so far off the side. It's exactly what he mentioned up on top. Its cool as a 'gimmick'. Doesn't mean it isn't cool at all. Don't be so scared to offend, you probably won't.
Doesnt that look like a Nokia charger on the psp? Strange
OK, so it's an analogue stick but the game only expects digital on/off signals from the buttons. So even though he's used an analogue stick it will still only give you digital movements in the game, making this a rather pointless mod.
in the post it says its DIGITAL not truely analog all this is is hooked into the buttons nothing more you wont get the full range of movement you would from an analog stick it simply takes the place of the face buttons
im a ghost
What an idiot, trying to impersonate a QJ.net staff....
i wonder if he even knows that it says (unregistered)...
Of course the game developers made it like that, so the analog nub could be used for aiming
ok let explain
i know is difficult but maybe someone can do it
the left stick is analog right?
so we put a stick on the right side ,
but its connnected with left analog circuitry plus another signal. for example circle button
so we move the right stick producing (analog) signals that software ( the game ) interprets like "left stick movement plus circle pressed " and react with the right movement ( example moving the aim )
of course is necessary a loader (maybe a devook mod ? ) that translate the signal (left analog sick plus circle ) in some suitable for the commercial game ... a sort of remapping plugin
bye!
ziobleed
This is by the same person with the left analogue stick mod. You can see it on the left side every once in a while. There're two analogue sticks.
how does painful + not portable? you can still carry it around! 'pain in your pocket' yea copyright that haha
LICK MY BUTT
acidmods.com is the coolest.
lol i love the idea of it
i wish i could do stuff like that lol..
but as for me i have no small electronics skills lol
thats a damn fresh idea for the psp
I totally agree if your a developer of homebrew or hardware mods by all means be a critic. But if youre just a 14 year old newb using their hardwork. Who has nothing better to do than talk s#!t and dont know the first thing about developing homebrew or hardware mods. Think to yourself could i do any better before you all open uneducated mouths. The dual anolog sticks look amazing GREAT WORK.
A piece of **** id like to see you all make something better you bunch of morons.
You *****. Sony is gonna find him because he soldered his psp!?
The variety of asshats on this site are tempting me to stay away. Grow up you *****ing morons.
Also, the words 'first post' are now to be understood as: 'I don't deserve to live'
