Give your PSP the Ring of Light

If you've pimped your PSP up to light blue at the shoulders, Psyberjock's PSP Ring of Light may be the perfect complement that will tickle you pink blue. Except that Psyberjock decided not to produce a How-To of this one because by God, this was the hardest mod he's ever had to do, and he's not going to risk you ending up with a brick in the process.

Unless he gets a lot of requests, he said. On the other hand, he did say, "I doubt I'll take the PSP apart again for fear of having to solder some things again." Okay, that is scary. Request at your own risk.

In any case, his inspiration includes Everett's shoulder LEDs and LED instructions from Llama, so a lot about this mod seems like a one-off on his part (hence, the difficulty). You will notice in at least a couple of the pictures how he had to fit the LEDs within the small dimensions of the UMD tray. It is undoubtedly cool, and the fact that it works (and the PSP is still unbricked) is a testament to Psyberjock's skill with a screwdriver and a solder gun. Heaven help whoever might want to create his own. The UMD "sticks" a bit when ejecting, but he's fairly confident that will pass "as things settle into their new shapes and positions."

And no, there's nothing in this mod that will make three out of four lights glow red when the PSP bricks.

That looks awsome. I want that. "REQUEST". I would rather buy the whole UMD slot. Instead of having to do it all from scratch. Nicely done.

» haha

piece of cake. Now, the xbox jewel in the umd door is a challenge, this is just another day at the job ;)

by pancho - 2006-11-13 17:30
» xbox jewel

The xbox jewel is easy. All you have to do is cut out a circle big enough to fit the jewel in and glue it. Thats it. This is talent. I give mad props for this.

» fake

no how-to? it's gotta be a photoshop job.

by Shamoo - 2006-11-13 17:54

clear WOULD be cooler. but yeah, thats rad.

by vid - 2006-11-13 18:05
» AWSOME

thats just amazing. Personally the only hardmod I've doen to my psp is the faceplate :\. I'd want to get a backplate, but I can't find a guide on it, and if I knew someone, send it to them to add some shoulder button LEDS :)

Btw, does it reduce the battery life? Or is it like the shoulder buttons where it's not that noticable?

Keep up the great work and good luck :D.

by 1nfinitum - 2006-11-13 18:07
» Yes.

Consider this a request, I don't mind the difficulty. That is just too godly of a symbol to pass up. Forget a Golden PSP, I want a Ring of Light PSP.

» focken easy

just take off the silver ring, if theres no hole cut one, put in a clear circle and some little leds and run some wire to the battery. piece of cake. itll just give you less battery life but im willing to pay that price.

by moho - 2006-11-13 19:45
» lame

^^you want the lights on all the time draining your life even when you arent playing? n8b...

by Freemo - 2006-11-13 20:11
» awesome

Request. This is by far the coolest mod that isnt intrusive when ur playing a game like the shoulder led's. I would love having this pimp light on my psp but fear of brick keeps be at bay, although if a how-to comes out,i might just give it a go. Props.

Wow! If these pictures are actually real, this mod would go perfect with the shoulder button mod.

by duh - 2006-11-13 20:52

*requests*

Can somebody also link to how to do the xbox jewel mod?

by p3t0r - 2006-11-13 22:41
» ROFLCOPTER!

why the hell would u want to use your psp as a TORCH!? lets waste gameplay time for the running of a blue lead which you dont even look @ !

by RaiderX - 2006-11-13 23:38
» LEDs dont take much power

you wont notice any difference

by LadyLomia - 2006-11-14 00:02
» Pretty, but useless

Wouldn't this run your battery out faster? It may look nice, but you'd have to keep the PSP plugged in the charger 24/7 :(

by th - 2006-11-14 03:43
» duh

guys it is LED. it wont run out at all. if u use one cell battery (the small tiny ones) it will last for a year even with sounds and motors. i used to have a neopets thing and it ran for a year and still runnin.

» How??

How To Do This On My PSP??

by Kristian - 2006-11-14 06:07
» Very nice

This is one hell of a surefire way to make your psp stand out. I give it a full ***** stars for blingage. I would definately love to do this to my psp but I shake like a leaf in the wind and soldering isn't exactly my forte. However, if you were to take orders for sending the psp umd door and some money ($40?) I would gladly give you the bragging rights for another ring of light PSP.

Bravo!

by Insane SKatman - 2006-11-14 06:17
» Post the how to

Post the how-to dawg. It is up to me if I want to risk bricking my PSP, and you shouldn't be attempting this anyway unless you have money to buy PSP's for trial and error. I could just do it, but you already have a functional one so I would rather use your schematic.

by Blazta - 2006-11-14 06:24
» FOOOL

WhhHHHY!!

Battery wasting ;D

by thedirector - 2006-11-14 08:04

by REQUEST!! - 2006-11-14 08:29
» request..

Great job Man!!! I've been trying to do this myself for a while and found some free modding tutorials @ acidmods.com you can also purchase jewels there. There currently revamping the site but I saw some really tricked PSP's a couple of days ago.

by ZOLTRIX - 2006-11-14 08:44
» You are an idiot.

This is easy to do. take off the cover. Put in 4 LED's

Put the cover back. Enjoy.

by PatrikStar - 2006-11-14 08:56
» lol

im not sure you could brick you psp from led modding

by PatrikStar - 2006-11-14 08:58
» So True

I one got this thing from a car dealership it was a button u stick on your shirt anyways it had 1 red led light that flashes and 1 cel battery to power it let me tell you I got this button well over 5 years ago and it still works.

by ben - 2006-11-14 09:07
» wouldnt lower battery

people...please listen

an LED is a very small light and uses a very small voltage

so it woundnt run down your battery much at all.....not to a physically noticable extent anyway

thanks

by j.smitty - 2006-11-14 09:17
» wtf

why do u guys think u r god or something just cuz u were the first one to comment

by nilzxx - 2006-11-14 10:46
» yey, unbanned

i got banned by the admin becuase he's a gay fat f.u.c.k. just because my pc was screwed up and posted the same post 2 times i got banned! IF U READ THIS, U SON OF A B.I.T.C.H ADMIN, Y DONT U JUST BANN ME AGAIN?? HUH??

by Dj Dumb Bi - 2006-11-14 11:27
» Yes, it won't lower battery at all

I think im good to go with this mod, but the holidays are comin,.......so..... imma buy extra UMD bay covers, and buy Multicolored LEDS and deck it out with "X-mas" LED lights! Gonna make it interchangable, so i can Switch it out with Blacklight, Blue, and Hyper White LEDs. I'll try to make it possible!

by jay - 2006-11-14 11:28
» me

this is fake he shined a blue light on to it

by sticker admin - 2006-11-14 12:15
» STICKERS ARE BETTER

USE THE GLOW IN THE DARK ONES

by Some guy - 2006-11-14 13:58
» Probably not

The LEDS probably wont take much power, just twice amount of the shoulder buttons, because, its just 4 LEDS instead of two

by LIKER SLIDER - 2006-11-14 15:25
» OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!

that is awsome i wanna REQUEST this PLS!!! i know i can do it looks like it will be a risk but who cares it looks awsome!!!!!!!!! !!!!!

by seet - 2006-11-14 15:25
» wow

Why are people so jealous. Maybe cus you guys can't do it. I can't do it and i'm not complaining cus i'm not one of those fruits. This is genuine just like the shoulder's

also wtf stop talking about "wow this is gunna waste ur batt"

LED's don't take a lot of battery. With LED on it would give u 7 hours of straight game play.

So evryone stop complaining.

by BurnZ - 2006-11-14 20:52
» ...

"im not sure you could brick you psp from led modding"

You can if you solder something your not meant to causing your PSP to not be able to run... E.G: bricking.

by dedafmonteur - 2006-11-15 01:58
» cool

all modders go to www.acidmods.com

the best site for modding!!!

by MitchenX - 2006-11-15 04:45
» too risky

I love it. I want it. But my PSP is very important, so I refuse to do anything that will risk bricking it.. these things are expensive, man!!!

by Shivy - 2006-11-15 06:28
» hmm

Are u my brother?

by ZOLTRIX - 2006-11-19 08:34
