Forget the "ghetto sticks!" PS2 Dualshock via USB mod |
Ó
To hell with soldering those so-called "Ghetto Sticks". Here's a simpler alternative from V0odOo: why not attach a PS2 DualShock controller via USB? No need to subject your device to hardware attacks. No need to worry about busting open your system. From what it looks like, what we have here is a simple plug-and-play mod! Check it out:
Now, we really don't know how this guy was able to work it out. He most likely needed some driver mod for the PSP to recognize the Dualshock controller. Also, we're not even sure if the Rumble feature works (unless of course that weird sound in the vid is actually the Rumble at work). Including a Rumble mod would have needed some extra work for the PSP to send signals to the controller whenever it should vibrate. Whatever it took for this guy to do it, we're giving him two thumb sticks up for innovation!

you can do this with irshell
ive got 3.00. guess i cant do this. oh well
Explain?
i would benefit grately from this mod if anyone would share a tutorial ill give this a go as it looks 99% risk free from the other anolog mods.
the only small down side to this would be that the ps2 needs power thus shortening the life of you psp's battery but im willing to over look that one
cool mod nice work!
well if you watch his fingure (which way he moves with his anolog stick) you can see that its a little too fake...
but i donno maybe its not fake..
HEHE funny !
"what we have here is a simple plug-and-play mod!"
You can do that easily with irshell guys ...

I take two! How the hell is that done? wich wires from the ps2-controller go where on the mini-usb-plug? (heating up the soldering-iron..)
www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=998&mforum=irshell
you just need a ps2-pc usb connector
I take two! How the hell is that done? which wires from the ps2-controller go where on the mini-usb-plug? (heating up the soldering-iron..)
I'm not the only one it seems.
again! But thanks for the quick reply..
The IRShell way requires you to still use your PC, totally making this useless.
I agree but you can do it via wifi too .
++ B.
Unless you have a portable wifi enabled PDA or something...
You can cut the end of your controller cabel and wire it to usb. I wonder how he got it to work with the game must be fake or he modded the game too.
he is probably using a pc-ps2 controller to plug the controller on his pc and use irshell keybord redirection !
++ B.
Buy a wireless controller, on a pda and its good :)
don't know if it exists ^^

This is a feature of iR Shell 3.0 and the user in that video IS using iR Shell. The feature is called Keypad Redirection and works via USBhostFS and NetHostFS Redirection (WiFi and USB).
Here's an article about iR Shell:
http://pspupdates.qj.net/index.php?pg+49+aid+74739
Here are some videos made by AhMan, the coder of iR Shell, himself some months ago. They show the same thing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v+YGF6pGpHRSE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v+NpJIc-Cdrt0
This works via PC Keyboard, PC Game Controller or XBOX/XBOX360 controller and requires a PC.
he is just watching a video and acting as if he were playing it.
can ir shell somehow do this with a logitech wireless ps2 controller?
first, i am the real V0odOo and i have made this video for a how-to on portable-news.de.
this works only with ir shell. and the rumble does not work.
sorry for my crapy english i hope everybody can understand me.
dumbass this is real
he most likely is using IRshell and I think ghetto stick is a great piece of real work which looks at least portable.
I really dont like the way you guys here took on ghetto stick.
Second thing, the weird sound in the video is not a rumble, it is the sound from the psp.
thnx for clearance V0od0o, I thought so :)
its not the sound of the psp. i made this video with a 10year old analog camera.
i have update the video description on youtube look:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=DBUWmq-lhaU
¬rawr~
The controller needs to be connected to the PC. The guy in the video is using a PS2->PC adapter and iR Shell with Keypad Redirection feature for USB or WiFi (requires PC running a server application).
I don't know if such a PS2->PC adapter exists for PS2 *wireless* controllers.
Any regular PC gamepad (or XBOX/XBOX360 controller) works straight out of the box, however. The PC keyboard, too.
sounds like it was filmed on a plane
what game is he playing there?
YOU are right mate, ir shell does this already, we dont need anymods hehe
if you want this go irshell.com and ask the forums
considering the buzzing started immediatly when the video started...it's probly not the rumble feature at work. if it is, its completely useless because it just rumbles the whole time, including menu navigation.
the game name is World Rally Championship
he's playing WRC Rally (as you can see in every picture
they are more creative and more handy
Please PSPupdates update you news to state that this is done with iRShell...!
Hey I knew about the special iRshell feature, works for me in XMB & iRshell app itself by usb, but can't get it to work once I launched Dhook...I've heard it MAY work through wifi, is that true, assuming you're really the guy who did the video, or was it something else, like playing a UMD with NO Firmware emulation, through usb, wifi?? details pleaaaaaaase i've been dreaming to play FPS games with dual analog...
PS: a devhook external controller mod would be nice though, as usb 1-to-2 adapters HAVE to be cheap and much more convenient than solder the whole thing ;)
still looks fake though, far too many finger movements compared to what the car on screen is actually doing, and when the car does move it's completely opposite to what his fingers are dong.
Judging from the above video I can safely say that this video is fake kinda. Kinda you ask? Well he may be using a ps2 controller but he is using it with PSP2TV like what I have.
You see the positioning of his psp, well its the same exact distance from the tabletop as is my psp2tv unit. It is the True way to hook up a ps2 controller to ur psp, either the wired controller will work or the logitec wireless one will work.
Also you can watch aforementioned games on any tv you want to use with it.
Nice video but I still say Fake atleast until a tutorial is posted or when we get a clear video with the lights on. I don't understand these "dark" videos.
Are you trying to make it look fake to begin with or is it that you don't have any videography talent.
One thing to remember: have your light source from above not behind you or in front of the camera, that way there is a lack of shadowing and everyone will get to see all.
Unless you ARE hiding things......
If you take:
1. PS2 Controller + PS2toUSB adapter OR a USB PC Controller (with analog sticks).
2. USB A Female to Mini USB Male Adapter.
3. PSP
4. A homebrew app to read the buttons pressed on the controller.
Would it work?
I'm the real V0odOo, this is actually a mod made by my friend psdonkey which you connect your ps2 controller to a signal box and it sends a signal to the psp so you can use your ps2 controller to play your psp, this was made by psdonkey to play his perfect full speed working N64 emulator with all the necessary buttons since he saw that the psp does not support all buttons. Anyways I will meet my friend psdonkey tomorrow at school which will show me his almost 100% finished ps1 emulator that runs ccd image files on it and his software that allows him to watch local channels on your psp without the need of a wi-fi hotspot.
Also he may release his perfect working ps1 emulator if you people ask psdonkey for forgiveness. Remember that he was the only coder capable of making a full speed N64 emulator so you should respect my friend psdonkey because not even Daedalus's rom selection menu runs at 50% full speed.
and how is carrying around a dual shock controller any better?
are you sure. i remember him leaving by himself. ummm, here's the quote of him leaving for a job.
"$title Goodbye
September 3rd, 2006, 04:44 Posted By: PSmonkey
Sorry to do this to you all but it is the end for PSmonkey.
As of last monday I started my new job at a big name publisher/developer to work on psp games. Sadly due to my contract I no longer can continue to do homebrew development (well atleast cant release it). It's a sad thing for my scene work but the best move I can make for my self comercialy (since my previous company was going no where and I was sick and tired of coding DS games based on a stupid license).
Yet there is no reason to be sad or angry. My work will continue on though other coders. I already have some coders who wish to continue two of my main projects.
Yes Iris 0.3 is still comming. I have a few people interested in redoing the game like I inteded as well as coninue to progress KohKae engine.
Sandbox is also not going anywhere. One of this scene's great coders is going to pick up where I left off to continue the game.
Regarding my other projects, I personaly will continue my fight to conker N64 & DD emulation on the PSP. M64 will still continue but no releases will be made public. I will how ever make my DD research public once finished.
ngPsp 1.3 ( the neogeo pocket emu) is still comming, A friend is gonna finish writing a GUI for my latest version.
Other then that, sadly all my other work is now dead (new fps will migrate into Iris 0.3, beat-em-up is dead).
That's it.
I will still lurk around and try to help people out with technical info but it will be sad to no longer work on homebrew for the scene I loved so much. Yet who knows what the future will bring and maybe I will end up being in a position that it's legaly posible for me to do homebrew again.
- Goodbye -
PS, sorry that I used will and grace image below. It's the only bow I could find close to what I wanted."
Yeah, i don't think your the real voodoo since he left for his job not because of complaints and stuff. Also, he can't realese homebrew anymore because of his job. Hmmmm, are you sure he will give you a 100% working emulator? I don't think so
why didn't he release this mod then? and also if you are the real voodoo guy why are you unregistered?
full of crap
he said psDonkey not monkey so he may be talking about someone else or he gets d and mm's screwed up
I'm talking of my friend psdonkey, not that ***** psmonkey which his emulator didn't get faster than 0.02 fps. I am the real V0odOo, and my friend psdonkey didn't himself release this mod because he said he doesn't like coming here to this site because of fools who talk ***** about him and he doesn't deserve that treatment, the reason he din't release his N64 emulator was because when he announced it everyone saying he was a fake and insulting him and everything and he told me he din't want to make any homebrew for people who don't show him respect
My deapest appologies Voodoo. I mistakened you and I am sorry for it. I should have read more and not have been so quick to judge. Sorry.
Also, was he the UltraHLE emulator person. Because, i was really waiting for that but it never came. hmmph, tell him i'm sorry if i insulted him (i don't really insult people for realesing something though). again, i am very sorry.
learn to read before posting something stupid
psmonkey emulator was never fullspeed, and psDONKEY was a faker that made a video and said he had a full speed emulator.....
the simple mention of psdonkey name, proves that that guy is not the real voodo, just some numb make fun of stupid people(a.k.a. you)
you have a point there. it also makes me wonder why did qj except this and not the rin aqua streak mod?
So I guess no one managed to do what they supposely did with iRshell .... at least on this forum...
thanks anyway
You guys are gullible. It's obvious this isn't the real V0od0o.
This is actually in the Manual ;)
You need the correct version of USBhostFS or NetHostFS for your controller. For XBOX/XBOX360 controllers there are specialized versions:
http://www.irshell.com/download/usbhostfs_PC_Win_1.5.zip
http://www.irshell.com/download/nethostfs_PC_Win_1.6.zip
For generic PC gamepads there is a version that allows custom mapping:
http://www.irshell.com/download/nethostfs_PC_Win_1.6.zip
http://www.irshell.com/download/usbhostfsAT.21.zip
(Refer to http://www.irshell.com/download.html for short description).
Here's a tutorial on how to get all set up (using USBhostFS as an example):
http://www.phpbber.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t+998+mforum+irshell
You take the cord and cut a part of it off. You take a usb cable and cut it in half. Take the male end and strip the wires. Do the same for the xbox controller side. You splice the wires together and either tape it all up (ugly) or put it in something, like I did. My version shown below is a little more complicated as I spliced the xbox cable back on, and its the wireless from logitech, but the idea is the same.
http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/1507/xboxusbmark2fi5.jpg
I linked the wrong file above.
For generic PC controllers (not XBOX/XBOXB360) and Keypad Redirection via *NetHostFS* you actually need this file:
http://www.irshell.com/download/nethostfs_PC_Win_1.6at.zip
Sorry for the confusion. I didn't know you were asking how the hardware hook-up. Sorry !
The real "V0odo0" already mentioned that he updated the video at YouTube.com
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v+DBUWmq-lhaU+eurl+
Wath the video at YouTube and then click on the little "more" link in the description box. It says this now:
"By V0odOo
for
www.portable-news.de
Works only with iR Shell!!!!"
my friend psdonkey's emulator was full speed and not a fake, I have it and it runs most games around 90%-120% normal speed (yeah, some for some reason run faster than normal, but he says that whe he can he will fix the emulator so the fps are limited). Anyways you people should respect psdonkey, he is the best coder ever, not even dark_alex or fanjita can compare to his greatness.
you can not say that at all. fanjita and dark_alex have not been banned and left for a friend to start talking about them. when he realeses this emulator, he still won't be the best but he'll be good. no one is better than the original fanjita and the psp god dark_alex.
your picture seems to be fake (not trying to bash anyone)
http://img501.imageshack.us/img501/1507/xboxusbmark2fi5.jpg but all it seems was that you put the usb cable and the xbox cable as close as you can and then place the altoids tin cab on the top...take a pic and voila!!! we have a usb wireless controller for the psp. uploaded and then fool everyone else....or you can take more pics...would appreciate that....so i can do it myself.
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO FANJITA ANYWAY?
PS. IM NOT THE REAL V0odOo.
Fake, why does qj.net post this fake junk. jk. its okay. Unless this guy has done previous works, dont trust him. i dont kno if he has done anything. so excuse me.
If you are on SE-C just do this:
Enable USBhostFS and simply launch an ISO from
DIR view in 2.71 EBOOT of iR Shell with the ISO plugin.
For UMDs just enable USBhostFS and simply launch a UMD.
For DevHook, it currently only works for **UMDs**, however and you must follow this procedure:
"Launch DevHook" -> "Start UMD with iR Shell"
Also, you must use the devhook files that come with iR Shell.
The same applies if you want to do Keypad Redirection via NetHostFS, which is also possible.
Please note that this will not work with all games.
Would this work easier with a PS3 controller?
Seems possible, Would be sweet to use with the superjoy(snes controller adapter) or the one for ps1/2 controls.
that is actually a good idea.
Anything is possible with kernal mode!
Its a shame this requires a PC. It'd be a much bigger deal if we could go straight from PS2/XBox controller to the PSP's usb/wifi. I wonder if this'll ever be possible...
Maybe not straight to usb due to power issues unless there is a hack to add power a usb controller via batteries...
I suppose a wifi controller would confilct when trying to play multiplayer via wifi...
lookin like the PS3 controller or i'm buggin
Would be nice to be able to plug a PS1/PS2 game pad into
the USB mini b port that way you could use it while away
from a computer. This method leaves you stuck to a PC to
use it.
One of these days will get gamepad and keyboard function
without needing to be tied down to a PC or Sony will release
the PSP2 before we get to it.
What ever happend to PSPik?
Hasn't hurd any new news about keyboard IR lately.
Somebody need to come up with a splice and dice
PS1/PS2 to USB Mini B Tutorial.
or like erythros said, wireless controller to wifi
functionallity. I'm tired of wires anyway.
We need wireless gamepad and wireless keyboard function for PSP.
THis is soo fake how many times does he press down on the stick in the second menu? 3 times then it goes he is watching a video and hasnt practiced his thumb acting.
YES, plug un the logitech wireless receiver at the ps2-pc controller adaptor then to pc then use ir-shell etc. pretty much the same as a normal ps2 controller except wireless.
As soon as there is a pc driver for the sixaxis controller then you won't need the ps2>pc box... but more importantly, if someone were to create a homebrew app that understood the imputs of the sixaxis controller then all we would have to do is plug it in via a sony usb cable and a large usb to small usb adapter....
are you and this guy lovers sounds queer to me anyone out there can see by far dark alex is the best of the best you want blowing out again mate just add admin (editor) iam sure we can all vote on it and let me tell ya spacemonkey ent got a chance
I have the game and that is the start up video which mosst ppl skip. Cos at the end it goes back to PRESS START menu. zoom in with photoshop and u can kinda see a blury START.
he could be playing a game on the PS3 and using remote play to show up on the PSP and conected any usb-mini wire into the PSP.
i am now registered.
this video is not a fake. its works only with ir shell. i have made another video that show more details and you can see i start it with ir shell:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=kNdnlTV4tzQ
Isn't this just a playstation with new games now.......Whats the point are you gonna drag all that crap around with you This mod is usless unless you like taping your psp to a wall and trying to see the tiny screen from 3 feet away . I may be over exaggerating a bit. It's not for me
