Splinter Cell for PSP Ad Giving Fabricated Praise?

It seems the folks at Gamespy were tempted into giving Splinter Cell: Essentials some praise in a preview, yet, as Joystiq points out, they bashed it in their review.

In the ad to the left we see a quote saying "One of the best games on PSP."  Yet in Gamespy's review they gave it 2 out of 5 stars saying it was "... a low point in the series." The quote for the ad seems to be taken from the preview of the game - isn't that a tad misleading/unethical? In the preview, Gamespy says it's "one of the best games we've played on the PSP." It's pretty clear that's where they got the quote from, but with all of the poor reviews of the game floating around it amazes me that they even chose it.

Instead of spending all of their cash buying reviews, gaming companies should concentrate on developing better games. Whether or not gaming websites take bribes is unknown, no one will admit it and it's been rumored for years that the top 3 (GSpot/GSpy/IGN) all take part in this disgrace. My guess is that nothing has changed and it's because of this that other gaming websites flourish because they offer honest opinions about a game without caring about upsetting a publisher/developer.

Then you clearly havent played the multiplayer aspects of the last two instalments, particularaly SC. Its the finest multiplayer ever to grace any game, ever. Pitty they ballsed it up with *****ty spy v spy crap in the psp one.

I would have to agree...

The preview for a game is not always the same as the actual game, so I would see a statement regarding the preview as rather misleading and unethical. But then, considering other stunts by game developers this is not really that serious.

disagree with biased reviews(mostly)

Gamespot taking bribes? I don't think so. If a game got 8-9, you would see that the score is close to the avarage score from other sites(check in gamerankings). So if it got a 8-9 and in fact the game is rubbish, it would be noticeable compared to the avarage score, and that never happened. The godfather got a 6-7 score in GS I think, but I still got it. And the review was true, the game wasn't that much good and was very buggy. BUT, I do think bribery exists, and IGN's scores does look overrated, and a higher than the avarage. Another thing is the individual reviewers(websites/psp magazines). I think those should not be trusted at all. The scores are WAAY overrated. Games like NFS who are just avarage are score 8 and 9. My explanation is that, those reviewers cannot afford getting all the games and reviewing it and sometimes they end up paying 50$ for a bad choice, so it's a subconcious excuse to give it a high rate to make oneself believe that he did not buy a bad game, but in fact he very much likes it and make an excuse for the 50 he paid.

Ok..................................................

The " reviewers accepting bribes " is super old , nintendo , sony andmicrosoft and sega have been doing it since many years from now , especially gamespot and gamespy ( sad is microsoft is planning to buy the so they may become more biased ). Anyways I only trust Game Informer cause I guy in my neighborhood works there and he says that is very rare for that to happen in gameinformer and never bribes for score have been done ( only to overhype a game ). But he worked ant gamespot and he says that they got paid by several companies to not rate games too low like dragonball z sagas and shadow the hedgehog whcih are the worst , still I tell him about this and I'll tell you his response maybe tomorrow or maybe in a week.
