Shuhei Yoshida - Image 1Although there are some notable PSP titles to look forward to, lately there's been a shortage of good games for the platform. That might change next year though.

Sony's Worldwide Studio boss">Shuhei Yoshida - the guy who stepped into Phil Harrison's shoes as head of Sony's Worldwide Studios - has remarked in a recent interview that they have a lot of games set to be released next year that haven't been announced yet.

Although Sony's studios are hard at work, third party devs are a different story. Not a lot have shown interest in the platform as of late, which Yoshida sees as a loss (don't we all):

It's really, really disappointing [that the PSP is often neglected as a gaming console], and it's a lost opportunity for the third parties. They should look at what the PSP can do for their titles and the potential for the business that their IP has.

Yoshida says that they are encouraging studios to make games for the PSP by leading the way themselves. They've been pretty successful in Japan, where people playing PSP is a common sight.

What other ways could they do to make the PSP more popular? Take a page out of the Wii's book maybe? Well, why not. Yoshida says he actually looks to the Nintendo console as an inspiration:

They are bringing in people that have never played games before, who never have tried picking up a controller. After they've played a Wii and played some of the games, some of those consumers might try something else. I'm really interested to try and convince those consumers to stay with us.

How's about a motion-sensing handheld console in the future?
