Japanese publisher Square Enix is ready to break out of Japan and head west. According to SE president and CEO John Yamamoto, the company is anticipating the European gaming market to be bigger than Japan's. To capitalize on all that gaming Euro, the company plans to develop more 'Western' games in the future. In fact, the company is already shopping for a European developer to help them carve out a big slice of the European pie.

"I am very interested in European development because there are a lot of very good independent studios," said Yamamoto. "We have started having meetings with people right now, and we will keep going. Titles IÂ’m looking at are for Europe and also the US. We are not looking to hire staff one by one, so maybe studios that have good experience would be easier to work with."

Their opening salvo for 2007 is Final Fantasy XII - almost a sure winner. But you FF fans out there better pace yourselves. The company famous for its RPG games has plans of Finally (and its not a Fantasy) releasing "over a dozen" of its Japan-only titles into the European market in various formats!

Some of Square Enix's Japan-only titles include:
  • Final Fantasy II, III, IV, V and Final Fantasy VII International
  • Square's Tom Sawyer
  • Romancing SaGa 1,2 and 3
  • Hanjuku Hero: Aah Sekai yo Hanjuku Nare
  • Alcahest
  • Live A Live
  • Front Mission/ Front Mission Second / Front Mission: Gun Hazard/ Front Mission: Alternative
  • Seiken Densetsu 3

  • Treasure Conflix
  • Koi ha baransu
  • Dynamitracer

» cool

I'd say he was speaking about the titles that got an english translation, but were never released in PAL countries. Such as: Every DQ before DQVIII, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, FFT, Dew Prism

» List origins

That list was compiled from the Shacknews forums where the guy from CNN goes quite often. He asked them what were their favorite games of the year. Not ,"what are you looking forward to playing this Christmas". The shack is full of 360 and Nintendo fanboys, that's why there's no Sony games.

by Kal - 2006-11-20 11:55
» No offense

Could that mean that be because PS3 launch games were awful? (Ignoring PS2 stuff here and to come)

by red2lucas - 2006-11-20 12:05
» Re: No offense

1st of all I posted this in the wrong thing (idiot). Second of all I'm a 360 fanboy myself. I HATE SONY with a passion. I'm not trying to defend them, I'm just saying where the list came from.

by Sriefer - 2006-11-20 12:37
» 360?

Is this story posted here because these games "might" come to the 360?

» Yar.

Sweet Radical Dreamers!

For those who don't know Radical Dreamers stars Kid, Serge, and "Magil" in a dimension between Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross...It was made in 1996 or 7 I think.

Anyways...Sucks I only get the US release of stuff...but I'm sure I'll be able to find them on ebay or in ISO format for those versions which will be for PSP.

» Two questions

If you posted it in the wrong section why am I the idiot. Second off why complain about if you love Microsoft?

» O.o

HELLS YES!!!

by red2lucas - 2006-11-20 15:35
» umm

I was calling myself an idiot, not you. And I wasn't complaining, just saying where the list originated from. The Shack IS full of 360 and Nintendo fanboys. I actually got banned for 30 mins yesterday for PS3 bashing.

by yoshinatsu - 2006-11-20 16:24
» Woa...

Does that mean that... FF VII might... come to the PS3... or... the PSP??

by Wondering why he reads these pages - 2006-11-20 16:27
» ...

It sure would be nice if QJ bloggers could do some research themselves and not quote others verbatim (or at least be accurate with own research). That list of Final fantasy games is ridiculously incorrect. VII international is just the japanese language of the western FFVII, FFII was ported to GBA and Psone, FFIII just had its US release, and IV and V are on psone and gba in the west (and IV had a snes release in the US).

Oh and Tobal 2 was released too I'm sure. The rest I'll give you but the constant lack of reliable independant research by QJ bloggers gets more and more ridiculous

by me - 2006-11-20 21:49
