AMN (Advanced Media Network) had a chance to ask Will Wright about Spore development on the various handheld systems. Spore is a game of evolution set to be released on the PC in 2007. This title was thought to be only for the PC previously, but after Ray Almeda from AMN talked with Will Wright, it has been confirmed that Spore is being produced on handheld systems such as the Sony PSP, Nintendo DS and various mobile phones. Wright has not commented on what phones in particular will receive this game, but he stated that the phone version will be the one receiving most of the focus in development. According to previous reports, Spore was to be released in 2006 in mobile phones, but from the most recent reports from AMN, Spore is to be released on mobile devices in 2007. So, Spore will evolve on your handhelds along with the PC version some time in 2007, so stay tuned!

yeah wow i watched the video from google video and i doubt the psp can handle this. if its on 1 UMD then the game will most likely suck , but if they stretch it out to 3 UMDs then yeah i will buy this

Are you sure you watched the video? A lot of what they were harping on was that the models, textures, etc. were procedural.

Althoug I also doubt the psp can handle it well, UMD storage space shouldn't at all be the reason why.

I think you will have a thin game client that downloads textures and models etc when you need it since you and your environment are supposed to evolve with others online right?

OMG sweet. I have been craving for this game ever since I saw the trailer for the PC. And now that its c0oming out for the PSP I am even more delighted.

This will definetly be one of the best games of the year if the psp version looks nearly as good as the trailer.

The PSP could easily handle this. Just either dumb down the graphics a little, or do streaming of whatever textures you need based on your location and things happening on screen. Don't want a semi-dumbed-down version? Then just get the PC version, whiners.

i really hope that they dont make it 'dumbed' down so it can be played by everyone or anyone who hasnt touched a pc before.

That's a problem i find wiht many of the maxis games; they all tend to cater for a wider audience that you can lose interest after a while because they dont make a very 'tight' game.

i hope the 'diablo' styled play will involve an intricate system of survivng,

i hope the 'civilisation' styled play will be as deep as the civ series are.

it may just turn into another B&W2, the first was cool cause it was different, and the second just beefed graphics and did nothing/(made it really tame) to the rts styled play or the 'creature sims styled play
