Sony UK promises to 'reinvigorate' PSP with unannounced franchise titles |

"The PSP is dead." "The games library is weak!" Heh. Not if Sony UK has any say on the matter. They're promising to deliver a host of core IPs from the PlayStation brand into the PSP platform. Core IPs here meaning franchises that have been established on the PlayStation as a whole. It could be anything from LittleBigPlanet to Monster Hunter Freedom.
The first of this new line of games is to be Resistance: Retribution. A great start, I believe. But where do they go from there? Though LBP and MotorStorm for the PSP are still being talked about, there could be others too. Sony UK product manager Claire Backhouse had this to say:
This year we are also launching a host of significant PlayStation IPs on the PSP platform, the first being Resistance Retribution, which will help drive sales.
ItÂ’s these core IPs that we believe will help broaden the appeal of PSP in the UK, and when coupled with the existing functionality such as Go!View and Go!Cam, will make PSP a very attractive proposition.
Granted, perhaps there hasnÂ’t been the volume of high profile PSP titles we would have liked to have seen on the platform. But, that said, we continue to focus heavily on software development.
The fruits of this youÂ’ll see later this year, with the release of a number of currently unannounced, yet significant franchises that will re-invigorate the current user base, as well as attracting a whole new audience.
Any of you guys want to guess what they've got up their sleeve? Heavenly Sword spin-off for the PSP? Or... ooh, another Jak & Daxter please!

...can we really trust you guys?
You're the same who said in a few years we'd have 1000 PSOne titles one the store...
I guess I'll keep an eye on this... But seriously Sony EU...
*looks them in the eye*
Where in the hell is the EU version of Jeanne D'arc?
if they manage to bring out aboouuttt..... 6 or 7 titles im sure sales will skyrocket in japan and get a lot higher in other reigons. littlebigplanet and gran turismo please!
The key words are : "drive sales."
Don't get me wrong, I know Resistance Retribution will do ALRIGHT at launch and all, but it's not going to be a BIG change. As much as I'd like it to be, it's all because of piracy that the PSP isn't getting anywhere.
Depending on how well Resistance Retribution at launch, we can't really say what's in store for the PSP in the not so far away future.
I hope I'm not right, and that Resistance Retribution will be what changes the PSP, and gives it that extra push to bring in more exciting titles to the PSP.
I know people are going to lynch me vou saying this but:
I for one am glad that the 3000 (so far) CFW. I mean, yeah I'm sad I can't use emulators and homebrew like LightMP3 and Wagic! but the upside is piracy is also stopped by killing CFW. The ISO loader can be pretty handy but not everyone knows what it's there for...
I'm glad I've bought all the games I liked (and sold all I disliked) and added one more today with Super Stardust Portable (pretty awesome, btw) and I wish everyone would do the same.
"I for one am glad that the 3000 (so far) as killed CFW"
Definately need Gran Turismo.
I agree, when piracy drops developers have more incentive to produce games.
So ...
The xBox seems to be doing just fine.
It is software hackable just like the PSP.
But the xBox gets a ton of games.
What's the diff?
The PSP wont die its already dead, no amount of games released in a year will change it.
Also people but xBox 360 games, alot more people than download them illegally.
I dont see the reason to buy the games when you can easily get them for free and they only take 10 mins to download
Go check number okay? Then you'll understand my point...
@sosrandom: you deserve that every single console you own to blow up
