PSP PS3 - Image 1The list of first-party studios internally owned by Sony runs deep. But how huge is the entire SCEWWS group, really?

Just to name a few... SCE Santa Monica (God of War), Incognito Entertainment (Warhawk), Team ICO (Colossus, Ico), Polyphony Digital (Gran Turismo), Naughty Dog (Jak & Daxter, Uncharted), Sony Bend (Syphon Filter, Resistance: Retribution), Guerrilla Games (Killzone), Evolution Studios (MotorStorm)...

During the GDC, John Koller reveals that their internally-run first party division is just about as big as what Microsoft and Nintendo have... combined!

Our development studios - the Worldwide Studios team - is as large as Microsoft and NintendoÂ’s combined. We have a tremendously creative group, and a line-up for the next few years that will bring a lot of new IP to the market, but will also being a lot of [tried and tested] franchises and new iterations to the PS3 in particular, but also PSP

And yeah, their upcoming line-up of PSP and PS3 first-party titles are looking formidable. God of War III and MotorStorm: Arctic Edge, just to name a couple. Of course, if you extend that to external studios which develop exclusives for the PlayStation brand, you got other AAA titles like LittleBigPlanet, Patapon, etc.

also, how could you forget to include insomniac? they are one of the biggest and best, with game of the year awards coming outta their asses! (resistance, and ratchet and clank)

» true

one of the best things about sony is they put all their money towrd first party titles, Microsoft pays off 3rd parties, and Nintendo just keeps all the money for themselves

» Insomniac Games

Is independent, that's probably why they were left out. They do make games exclusively for the PS brand, but it's more because they want to.

» twisted metal

i'm not sure but i think that in the videos qj posted awhile about calling all cars and god of war 3 david jaffe i think i spelled that right mentioned something about a new twisted metal game so they should be working on it

they may be idiots somtimes, but they know how to build a game machine, and they definitely support their developers. if they would just lower royalties for ps3 exclusives, they would be king.

» ya...

It was basically confirmed they were working on it....but I want to see some pudding...

» Insomiac

they really aren't *internal* first-party. more like... second-party external.

» Uhh

I don't think Naughty Dogg is owned by Sony. I think they're in the same boat as Insomniac! Independent but with a love for sony.

thats what i thought?

» wow...

Yet Nintendo, with just one first party developing company (themselves) ends up making more first-party games than both Sony and Microsoft combined...

I really don't care about which one has more studios or not, I just want the best games (like if I buy 4 games a year I hope that Sonys supplies me with better 4 games than Microsoft or Nintendo, just like most gamers who don't have the money to buy 20 good games a year).

» um no

if you actually counted, nintendo puts out far less games than sony
