Sony is confident enough that Invizimals can be as successful as Pokemon, though not necessarily meaning to say that it is Sony's answer to Nintendo's blockbuster collectible pocket monsters.

Talking to Videogamer.com, Daniel Sanchez-Crespo says that while there will definitely be similarities to Pokemon, Invizimals will surely be able to stand on its own. Asked on whether or not he sees their game as Sony's answer to Pokemon:

No. That's a very good question. Before Pokemon came over, when I was a kid we used to collect cards at school. People used to go on Safaris to take pictures of animals. My mu, she collects Champagne bottle lids. We are tapping into very basic instincts. If you tell me that Pokemon and us went to the same school, yeah, but it's not like we've been seeking inspiration from each other. With Invizimals it's way more about what's unique in our game to what's similar to Pokemon.

We have reinvented the way we capture creatures. We have a mythology which is self sustained. Obviously there is some coincidences with Pokemon sure, with Mario and Pac-Man and with everything. So for me, working in the games industry, means there is huge constellation of games and we all look at each other to see what each other is doing.

Asked if he thinks Invizimals can be as successful as Pokemon, he answers, "Yeah, why not."

» As popular as Pokemon?

Really? That's what they think? That's impossible, it really is. It's literally impossible. Pokemon took the world by storm, it was phenomenal, and it still is. What it's done defies belief. It's like releasing a new book and saying "Sure, it could be just as successful as the bible". Or creating a band and saying "Yeah, it could definitely be as successful as The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Elvis, whatever."

The point is it's a stupid, naive statement.

» I Agree

I am going to have to agree with you, Pokemon was a success in Japan and then it slowly started taking over the US! Pokemon has been out for years now so they have the advantage, and because it's been out for so long Pokemon are more common and noone is going to forget about them. Maybe if InviziMals was out before Pokemon then yeah, InviziMals would be the leader but its just not going to happen.

I need to see some more gameplay of this and then I will judge it some more. Maybe it might not be so bad? But as for taking the crown from Pokemon, its just not going to happen!

» Still its like Digimon then! lol

Lol Digimon... Pokemon has been there for years and not even Yu-Ghi-OH has taken his kingdom. lol Yu-Ghi-Oh...

I'm pretty sure this game will have nice graphics and gameplay and its similar to Pokemon, but not quite better or equal. Still would be the Pokemon version for Playstation folks, licenced by SOny... lol

Thanks

» whoa

calm your asses down, christ. i'm sure he doesn't expect it to be as successful as pokemon but he can be optimistic. it looks like a good game, its not supposed to be the SAME game. instead of reading in so deep to what he says, try reading the shallow "less-intense-fanboy" aspect on things.
