Everyone's been asking if there ever will be a PSP Phone (or PSPhone to some). With all the rumors flying around, it's hard to pinpoint whether or not this product is really in the works.Sony Ericsson's Peter Ahnegard was interviewed by Pocket Gamer at the Leipzig Games Convention. He spoke about quite a few things, but dropped the bomb with his comments on a possible PlayStation Phone. He started by discussing the assets they currently have and if it is feasible to actually release one:
I've been waiting for that one! To explain our position I need to look at the brands we've developed so far, in particular the Cyber-shot and Walkman phones.
When we looked at all the assets we could muster for music and imaging the services, downloads and overall proposition, we felt that we could create something that really lived up to the values of the brand and fill all the required boxes.
We're not launching a brand of handset simply because we can, but because we can lead up to the expectations of the consumer. Up until today we haven't felt we could launch a PlayStation phone because it wouldn't be recognized as a true continuation of that brand of products.
After that he gave a semi-confirmation of the product saying "it's obviously something that we're looking at but right now I can't really comment. Before Christmas, certainly... but exactly which Christmas I can't confirm!" This is big news for those who want the convenience of a mobile phone with their handheld gaming platform.

bet this would be really cool. But to use a thing as big as a PSP as a phone wouldn't be that handy. Imagine putting it in your pocket like a modern cellphone. Little too big for that. Nice new feature for a handheld gaming device if you look at it that way.
Maybe they are going to make it like the sidekick.. so the buttons are underneath the screen...is the only way I can see it like a "PSPhone"
i''ll have to say do you really need a psp phone wouldn't it sux to be palying and receive a call , i dun know would it jusst be better to get a better psp like in a year with a lot more features than it has now. and if they do make one it would cost at least a thousand cuz of the flash or the camera wich needs to be at least 3 or 5 plus a better processor wich can handle gaming plus receiving a video call i don't know it could be done nice but honestly i wouldn't pay 800 or 1000 for a gadget would you??

um but we wouldnt have any hacks and the umd port would make it larger. maybe if it was a flip phone which wouldt work yeah maybe if the screen was on top and the button lay underneath or if it had touch screen buttonsor maybe if a company named apple jsut made a gaming device we wouldnt be wanting a ps phone

how big it will be if they don't shrink the screen size. It wouldn't be very cool to hold something the size of a PSP up to your head.

My take - love the PSP, love my cell phone, hate carrying them both with me. Build a phone into the current PSPLite model - but add bluetooth. This will kill battery life I'm sure - but hey - get a few spares. Anyone in a big city with a sidekick or such knows. You need a bag with xtra batteries, food, water, towel, etc... I don't mind battery life issues too much, every phone I've had I had to replace the batteries once every yr or 2... now I just carry 2 spares with me. I have 3 for PSP ( I even have a 2nd PSP lol)
