Some Details Emerge on PSP Download Service |
Ó
Some details have started to come through regarding the download service in development for the PSP. In an interview with NikkeiBP, Izumi Kawanishi the executive in charge of Japanese software platform development, revealed that the PSP has no problems running PlayStation 1 games in an emulator, even though the control systems has required a bit of a "rethink" as the PSP has (obviously) only one analogue stick. Also discussed in the Japanese-only interview, was that films (and games) will also be downloadable thanks to the widespread distribution of broadband, and that the service will also operate via WiFi-enabled PCs and the PS3. Furthermore, the PSP could be used as a mobile information system (with the PS3 handling the grunt work).
Sony is hoping to roll out the PSP Download Service when the PS3 launches - hopefully November this year. As always, be sure to stay tuned for further details.

Does This Mean We Can Download From HotSpots?
So if they're saying that a PS1 emulator is easy to make for the PSP, does that mean that the people who have tried and failed miserably just suck big hairy donkey balls???
No, they don't suck, but they aren't a team of 50+ professional coders that work for 8 hours a day 5 days a week are they?
Oh, so you're a Sony employee and know for fact that it wasn't just one guy that easily threw this up in a matter of weeks?
Wow, so many Sony employees on these boards. . .
stop trying to cause an argument Snarg. of course it wasn't just one guy. next you're be telling me that all PSPs have been made just by one little guy in china...
loser
Ur gayyy m'kay *****gget, don't call me a loser *****get m'kay, ur mom is a loser. BTW you suck big hairy donkey balls. Ur moms to be exact m'kay. And you are causing an argument m'kay....
they waited 2 years to release this stuff?
they gave us firmware after firmware update for nothing of any importance?
no online experience like Nintendo and Microsoft gave us? (Nintendo's online service being the best since it was free to use AND they released a usb wifi adapter, sony gave us a "good luck" attitude)
so the most expensive handheld system witht he most expensive games is finally going to deliever on promises made since the thing launched in japan 2 years ago and it's going to cost me more money?
you know it took nintendo less than a year to give us mario kart ds so why should i accept sony taking 2 years?
i don't want my psp to act as a promotional tool for the damn PS3!
lol...ur a *****
sony made the psp @ the ps1 so obviously they're going to b able 2 make a fully working emulator b4... not 2 mention what #4 said although i really doubt it would be 50+ :/
Argumentative, no, more like defensive, but at least I pose valid points, not retarded assertions.
The point is that #4 makes a grandiose assumption that he can't verify any more than the obviously exaggerated counter-assumption that I posted back in defense to his attack at my question. Not my fault you're too stupid to figure that out.
By your logic, well lets just say, your name and logic should never be mentioned in the same sentence.
Go back to post #2, and look for it. It's called a question mark. You know what that means right? Oh damn just used a question mark again, might confuse you. Never mind.
And wow, you're so talented, you can put my name in and make a post. Too bad it reeks of your maturity and intelligence level.
What we got here a is rare bit of new that may finaly make me upgrade my psp mate. The PS1 Emulator would be worth a trade of all other homebrew and the Croc Hunter never plays illegal iso's so that's not a factor. Oh Crickey, I was just inpaled by a momth stingray so I guess it doesn't matter anymore. Hope the have a PS1 emulator up above. G'day mates!
And people thought MY post was in bad taste.
Looks like that little Sheila didn't like you disturbing her while she was defecating!
Seriously though, I can't wait for the emu, and hopefully one of these guys is good enough to figure out how to get THAT ONE running for us homebrewers, one way or another.
they said the ps1 emu/download/etc would be here in october. ***** you sony.
Hey Croc Hunter, You are dead! Put down your PSP and settle down for the Big Sleep!
Of course Sony can make an emulator. The invented the whole thing from the begining! It is their baby. They just dont want to share. Why should they allow homebrews when they can offer the product for a fee! Money, money, money. We all love it. We all want more. Sony has to play it carefully with this. They lost BIG witn Betamax, they are not willing to make the same mistake with Bluray and UMD. I don't understad why homebrew is such a threat for them, but they feel it. If they released a Developers Kit and allowed games to be made by the community (charging a small fee!), would lead to an explosion of games and finally we would see Gran Turismo which is the reason I bought the friggin' thing the second day it came out!
Croc Hunter is still dead

Snarg: Please tell me you're not serious. You look like a really large douche right now... and I would suggest stopping. The fact that you even think that someone could "throw together" a ps1 emulator on a PSP shows how little you know. Furthermore the people at Sony have something called a developers kit, where they can access stuff that homebrew developers can't... so no, it doesn't mean other people suck donkey balls (and you call other immature?)
By the way, this site sucks. You little kiddies in these comments that right lik3 d!s and spel lyked ***** and u uz al these abv.shuns and r dumb.... Let's just say it makes you look really stupid.
/rant
No need to defend myself from your post, because it's obvious that you didn't read the entire thread of posts, and that you also don't grasp the concept of a question mark. You have a very good grasp on self righteousness though.
Oh, and it's called forum lingo. This isn't "writeyourthesis online" it's a blog for comments. Nobody is required to type up an essay, and submit to their prof. for approval before posting it here. Damn, lighten up.
I do want to point out something rather amusing though.
Since probably 9/10 registered users has now changed their settings to only view registered comments . . . there techincally still aren't any comments here. lol
I'm gonna hunt you down and kill you if you tell me
Does this mean that we have to wait till november for fw 3.00 and the ps1 emulator not that im bothered about updating my 1.5 anytime soon but i was just wonderin and will this emulator only play ps1 roms downloaded from the sony store or will it play one you download yourself?
Sorry pete. Still too obvious.
Wang Hai
I would bet that it will only play the downloaded ROMS, however, I would also bet that 1 of 2 things (or both) will happen.
1)The ROMS will be distributed illegally all over the internet.
(this is pretty much a certainty)
2)Some braniac will come out with a conversion tool.
What's the big deal with "only one analog stick, boohoo"? The problem is only two shoulder buttons. Many more PS1 games used the extra two shoulder buttons than the second analog stick.
what i dont get is surely as soon as sony release this ps1 emulator wont a hacker just be able to look at the coding they used to make the ps1 emulator run on psp and then try to make a version which runs on 1.5
Why only one analog stick is a problem???? Let's think a bit! The PS1 old pad hasn't got joystick!!! The proof here : http://www.beseder.com.ar/publicaciones/joystick_1.jpg
The only problem is R2 & L2 triggers...
Snarg wtf ru doing
Also: it is not like other emulators where you have the emulator and then roms. You boot each game directly from the memstick, not first by starting up an emulator. Probably the games will be linked to ur psp's mac address etc. Time will tell.
Snarg dont spam the page its pointless and annoying gor people trying to read peoples comments
I haven't got any issues.
I asked a question, and a bunch of people spazzed out.
Then I defended myself.
How is that ME having issues?
If you want to talk about issues, look at
petemwah
The guy who posted #7,18,26 using my name, thinking that he's so smart and cool.
And wtf are you talking about?
Of course there's going to be an emulator.
Read the article
"the PSP has no problems running PlayStation 1 games in an emulator"
And being linked to your mac address? wtf are you talking about? How can a game be linked to different specific mac addresses? Dude, think about it.
What, you think that when you go to download a game, it's gonna grab your mac address, then on the spot, write special code into the download, that will then only allow the game to run for that mac address?
There are so many things wrong with that, that I don't even know where to begin.
I want to have Snarg's children!
See this isn't really you, but it's easy enough to put in your name.
I have not spammed anything.
Posts 7,18,26 where made by petemwah
Any mod can confirm that, since they see the IP addresses of the posts.
My point. Don't jump to conclusions!!!
P.S. I know you don't really want to have my children. :(
Snarg
dont use my name you bum
i koow i'm just a retard... my bad:)
I don't think they'll have a problem with this. First time I heard about the emulator I thought it would be perfect for PSP. I don't know why people complain there aren't enough buttons. What, you mean like 2 more?
Also, I think they'll realease an update in october (too long to wait for november) and then 3.00 when the ps3 comes out.
and I hope they make more demos available for download. I play sudoku all the time now lol.
im the real Snarg
It's funny to watch someone with a single digit IQ try to attack someone.
Because, everyone knows that a person would outright say
"I'm just retarded" about themselves.
You have nothing intelligent to say to actually make me look bad, so you have no choice but to resort to childesh pranks.
Wang Hai -
Sorry, but I had to prove a point. ;)
lmfao no dont believe that guy I'M the real Snarg
if sony dont release a update before october i will be suprised because that leaves time for 2.8 to be hacked and a downgrader to be made before there next release and then we can all be on 1.5 wheres booster now days anyway i would like to see a devhook update soon wtih 2.8 emulation no rush tho
Snarg, you're an idiot. Please, stfu.
There's no solid proof the PS1 emulator wasn't created by one sony employee. By the same token, there's no solid proof the PS1 emulator didn't just appear randomly outside a Sony office spontaneously.
Wow, another person with no grasp of logic, who's too stupid to understand when someone's trying to make a point, and not actually trying to state a fact.
You see it's actually plausible that one person developed this (even though I never said it was fact, it was a purposely exaggerated counter-point, which you would know if you where paying attention), where as it's not plausible for it to "appear randomly outside a Sony office spontaneously"
If you can't use reason and intelligence when issuing a counter debate, then please refrain from trying, because you just end up looking stupid, and not adding anything meaningful to the thread.
And for the record,
Posts 7,18,26,31,33,35,36 are not me.
what games on ps1 used the analog sticks?
probably the last few lol. I think most of them were mader before / during the time the analog controller was out. I was playin old ps1 games at my cousin's house and very few used analog. Basically all of the them had simple controlls, which is why they'll work fine on the PSP.
I thought all the games supported at least the left analog stick. like with spyro and stuff, you could run around with the analog stick instead of the D-pad.
Nuff said.
Then register it then kiddie.
hmm this blogging space is not suppose to be for fighting so talk about the topic when fighting or shut the ***** up and leave
@15
Betamax didn't loose money, it just lost to the "Guy watching a movie in his living room" market. Betamax flourished in the professional sector and is still used in many TV stations (although most have now switched to digital solutions)
booster rocks dont rush the downgrader or devhook upgrades cuz the long u take ur time the better it will be
someone has an identity problem, and what was this thread about, again?
Yes, I agree that registering would be the way to go, to avoid the childish pranks. However the condescending tone I can do without there little fella.
But you see, I DID register, and never got the confirmation e-mail, and now of course the user name is "taken" so I can't try again with a different e-mail address.
SPHAM!
where as it's not plausible for it to "appear randomly outside a Sony office spontaneously"
Can you prove this? No, you can't.
