SOE on upcoming downloadable PSP titles on PS3: "not at this time"

According to a recently published interview by Gamasutra with Sony Online Entertainment producer Todd Carson, the puzzler on wheels title GripShift and Cash Guns Chaos would probably be the only titles originally conceptualized for the PSP to be released on the PlayStation 3. Quoting Carson, he said, "Not at this time."

SOE on upcoming downloadable PSP titles for PS3:

Sidhe Interactive's GripShift was officially announced as an original intellectual property that first came out on Sony's handheld, the PlayStation Portable system. But as soon as Sony Online Entertainment had the opportunity to deliver a downloadable game to the next-gen console over the PlayStation Network, they released a souped up version of the game with a lower price point.

But it probably isn't a case of favoring one console over another. Sony's Cash Guns Chaos was released on the PlayStation 3, although it was first conceptualized for mobile gamers on the PSP handheld. SOE figured that if they were putting a lot of work into the game, they could feature a better version of Cash Guns Chaos over to the PlayStation 3 first. Carson expounds:

You buy games on the PSP because itÂ’s a mobile device, you want to take it on the run. The two consoles really are two separate entities - and while people might have both and buy [GripShift] on both, we didnÂ’t see them necessarily as competing with each other.

The other thing that actually helped influence our decision [to focus on the PS3 first] for Cash Guns Chaos is that you really need to play the game with two analog sticks. While the PSP has one analog stick, we had set up controls where you had to use the X, circle, square and triangle key to control which direction your character was shooting.

Sony Online Entertainment's High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition is slated for a summer release over the PlayStation Network, and SOE hopes to provide more games that take advantage of the feature set of SIXAXIS.

I think part of the reason nintendo has been so succesful with the gameboy and ds systems is ebcause they treat their portable market as a conmpletly different and seperate entity form the console market. ANd as has been proven with psps oftware sales, people dont want to play the same games they already beaten before on the ps2 or ps2 and want original content not found on other systems. I mean psp game sales are abysmall.

dumbass

"I mean psp game sales are abysmall." Seriously how can over 20 million PSP's be classed as abysmal. Sure it is'nt selling as much as the DS, but its aimed at more older audience. however 20 million PSP's from a company that has never been in the hand held market before is considered a success. Speak for yourself about the PS2 games thing. Seriously I can't wait for God of War PSP.

why?

Who would want to play PSP games on a PS3? 95% of the games on the PSP are watered down PS2 ports. I haven't bought a PSP game in 2 years, yet I play it all the time. Homebrew is the only reason the PSP sold 20+ million units.

Why?

I though you were an Xbox 360 fanboy, but you like PSP as well?

Your A Jackass

No one is stealing games. People use progras to covert games they already own so they can play them on the psp. Would you want to pay for a game you already owned just to play it on the psp? Besides to even be able to get a ps1 game for the psp you need a ps3. You jackass. Don't be jealous cause you can't use homebrew n00b.

You don't need a PS3.

All you need is a custom firmware. If you don't have that PS3 is your only option though.
