Sibling rivalry alert: MGS Peace Walker and Rising "not good friends" |
Ó
Who would've thought. Kojima's teams in competition. That's right. The two teams working separately on Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker and Metal Gear Solid: Rising (PS3, Xbox 360, and PC) "are not really good friends," this according to the big man himself, Hideo Kojima.
Talking to GamePro, Kojima relayed how there is an on-going "sibling rivalry" between the two teams, primarily because one is getting more than the other.
The reason why I say they are not good friends is because the PSP is working day and night to make it even better than MGS4, but of course they can't do it because of a lot of restrictions. On the other hand, the Rising Team is using loads of money and loads of capacity and hardware specs. If you could imagine the PSP team looking at the Rising team saying, they have all the money and specs. That's the one reason why they are not good friends.
And how does he find this scenario?
It's interesting for me to see the team members act in this way. This was never before because it was always just one small team. Now we are much bigger. So it's really interesting for me to watch the team right now.
A little competition can't hurt anyone, especially if in the end, the product will be a showcase of competitive brilliance -- which we know we need a whole lot more these days.

I wonder which team will win :)
so far, from the looks of it, the Rising team is at an advantage, because they're getting more support in terms of tech and finances.
but in the end, it's gonna be the gamers who'll benefit from this all, so hooray! :)
MGS2 wasn't as good as any of the others due to Raiden being the main character. Not many like him, then they turn him into a super ninja to replace Gray Fox which he failed at. No one can replace The Cyborg Ninja. I can see it now, Rising will probably be very similar to Ninja Gaiden with some what stealth added into it. PSP's Peace Walker > Rising. That's how I think it will be. Though Rising does have advantages..
I think putting peace walker on the PSP is a dumb ass move.
I know it is in an attempt to lure people to the PSP brand, have a psp-go bundle, etc.
However, as Kojima said, they are being restricted in so many ways because it is a PSP game.
Sony needs to move PS3's and with KJP already have made a PS3 exclusive game, they could have gone into Peace Walker with alot of knowledge and made something better than MGS4 (which would be amazing)
oh well.....
ii honestly think the malee in all mgs is mediocre at best ........it is a stealth game @ the root but who never gets caught n doesn't get force 2 use malee...........its can't hurt unless u just hate ninjas 2 the bone
Portable Ops was a very good Metal Gear game, on the PSP, and Peace Walker is more or less a sequel to PO. It makes sense to have it on the PSP.
Imo, the MGS series were mostly about stealth rather than going going out in the open fighting enemies. What I was trying to say was that I think Rising will be more ninja action type than stealth. Also not to mention the main character is Raiden. I prefer the series how they are right now. I hope Kojima doesn't change the way of MGS like Capcom did to the RE series. Less horror/puzzles, more action/gun fights.
This type of competitive rivalry leads to a better and brighter game since they make the best out of each other.
the Peace team has Mr Kojima writing, producing and directing.
And we all know that ever since MGS4, he became our new god.
God > New Guys
We are.. we get to enjoy their word work for years to come.
Ive owned a business before... this is what I would do. Cut as many corners as I could to look good to the boss, anything I fcked up in the process could be fixed after release with a patch or something after I already had my moments of glory heh. People actually do this too, seriously! (not saying this is what happens, but its a possibility)
Of course thats a situation too where a Boss wouldnt know you cut corners, just praises you for getting somewhere or getting so much done so fast.
The PS3, MGS:R wont hit it off as well as the PSP one will I think, not enough people are able to afford the PS3... or will they, since the price reduced PS3 Slim is to be released soon, there is a pretty god chance Konami will see a great increase in buyers of MGS:R.
But I think MGS:PW Will get quite the number of buyers... or a million pirates... lol.
"What I was trying to say was that I think Rising will be more ninja action type than stealth" Ya think? It was understood months ago that this would be totally new thing for the MGS series.
wow, now we will have Peace Walker and Rising fanboys....
I can already imagine it:
"Peace Walker is the BEST, Rising don't have Sh** on Rising"
"nah, are you kidding, Rising kicks Peace Walkers A**"
;) ;) ;)
Its competition yes but in the end the fans win. But the smart fans will lose when they have to put up with fanboys crying which game is better. I wish it would have been the other way around personally. I'd like to have Kojima working on Peace Walker on the PS3 and Rising on PSP. Peace Walker seems like its the next installment while Rising seems like the spin off. However Rising can't just be half assed so its getting the higher platform which is fine I'm going to get both and I don't know which I'll like more and I'm not going to be biased about it. Its all Metal Gear. Hopefully this pushes them toward Metal Gear 5. Doesn't even have to be Solid. They can introduce some new hero, I just want Kojima to keep doing work (its like a great author with a solid series)
Rising will most likely dominate in the common gamer's world because of the fact that it's going to be on 360 and PS3. Out of all of my 360 friends that are 360 fanboys, only 3 own a PSP. And I have like 12. So I would just say that the numbers are against them. But I know that I'm going to enjoy Peace Walker.
MGS2 was the best game in the series, by far.
OK it wasn't 1080p, but it was the best graphics for any game out at the time. Will be interesting to see. I have no idea what MGS Rising is about other than Raiden. To me both of these games are not must buys yet - Kojima should have done another proper Metal Gear game. However, all this could change if it turns out they are awesome and tell an amazing story.
This is probably nothing more than him just saying he's not used to having 2 teams at once working on both a home console game and a portable game. The differences would make one team jealous of another since it's harder to make a game which is supposed to live up to MGS4 with the limited resources provided by the PSP (and it seems Konami as well for funding).
Hopefully the rivalry shows in the finished product.
It would still be better on PS3 though.....and help move more PS3's.....
as konami will sell both anyway. ^^
To those who are saying this will suck and etc.
Kojima wrote/produced/directed Peace Walker and only produced for Rising.
okay, wat the hell...
someone actually liked mgs2 best?
why?
apart from the tanker area in the beginning where you pay as snake, the game has super boring envirioments, orange greyish stuff.
the boss fights didn't have the excitement the original has.
altough i liked the emo stuff when it came out, i tried paying it recently and jesus christ it just doesn't make sense, i dunno it feels kinda...well fake
don't get me wrong it was a good game and i never found raiden that much of a *****.
care to explain why?
Wait. Kojima didn't hire an editor and just wrote whatever came into mind as a "story" and he's a god? Oh sweet jesus I don't want to know what goes on in your mind. The game (the game bits) was okay, maybe you have to be a fanboy to have such a huge admiration for MGS4.
we have to remember rising has an engine built from scratch because it's a game going multiplatform, so they couldn't use MGS4 engine for that. It will also be interesting because it's going to be something completely different from the Metal Gear universe we are used to. I think story wise or concept wise Peace Walker has the advantage because is a continuation of the main story. Obviously we cant compare specs wise or financial backing for obvious reasons. Peace Walker just seems badass at this point and we haven't seen anything on Rising yet.
