The last time we heard about the Jeff Gerstmann controversy, we found out that Ricardo Torres, longtime staffer on GameSpot, has been chosen by CNET to fill the void that Greg Kasavin left. Now, we get a statement direct from Torres himself about how he feels regarding the entire issue, and what he plans to do in terms of damage control. His statements, taken as is from a recent interview:

GameSpot's gone through quite a few bumps in the road over the years. I know Jeff's fans are upset and I know people are upset over the perception and how it all played out. Really, the best thing that we can do is to just show them that we're good at what we do. Ultimately content is going to prove to people that we're untainted, uncorrupt and committed to serving our readers.

I'm going to try to balance it out. I'm going to try and still do some writing. I'm in this business because I like games, and I'd be really sad if I wound up taking a position where I couldn't play them. The chef wants to sit down every once in a while and try recent cooking, so this is my hope.

Reading his statements, it seems that Ricardo definitely has his work cut out for him. After all, not only did we see a considerable chunk of the videogame community erupt in protest at Gertsmann's sudden termination, but also the resignation of some of GameSpot's most noteworth personalities. It would certainly be no minor feat to get things back to the way they were, and we wish him all the luck he needs.

» Who cares?

This blog is "tainted" by the "reviews" for Headplay that pop up every few days, and they still seem forced after all this time. I don't see too many people complaining about the. (except me) LoL.

» Um

Why is qj wishing him luck? The fact that he describes his own actions as "damage control" speaks volumes. When a game site is exposed as a shill-for-hire, it shouldn't deserve any love from us. Also, note that the only reason he is coming out and talking about the situation now, at this late date, is because GameSpot expected the scandal to go away by now, and it didn't. NOW it's time for damage control?
