Rebellion's Tim Jones on Aliens vs Predator: Requiem |
Ó
Anyway, Rebellion Developments Head Designer Tim Jones was recently interviewed about the game in general and how Requiem fares compared to past titles and the studio's previous projects.
According to Jones, Aliens vs Predator: Requiem basically was a relatively easy and fun project for their team because of their experience with the series itself as well as with the Sony handheld. Tim Jones explained:
We have had extensive experience developing high-profile titles for the PSP and getting the most out of the system. We've also worked with numerous movie licences, so the combination was a perfect fit for us.
Despite that, however, the head designer admitted that they encountered some problems especially when coming up with the best control scheme for the system. Jones said that this is due to the PSP's lack of a second nub:
It has been a challenge to come up with a control system for a third-person action game that doesn't rely on the use of a second stick for controlling the camera.
That said, I think we have developed an intuitive solution that allows the player to rotate the camera manually using the L and R buttons and also lock on to their target by pressing the L and R buttons together.
Tim Jones also reminded fans that they shouldn't expect to see the film itself reflected in their game because the two are very different from one another. While the designer admitted that Fox is quite "protective" of the franchise, certain creative freedoms were allowed.
And it seems that this isn't going to be the last Aliens vs Predator game for the PSP. When asked about the possibility of playing humans or aliens in multiplayer mode, Jones answered, "Not in this game. Maybe next time"!

This game sucks...I've tried it, it do really suck! BIG TIME!
make it sound like the movie's already out... it's not out for another three weeks...
"The title is essentially the game adaptation of the film with the same name released not too long ago."
