Kratos doing what he does best in God of War Chains of Olympus - Image 1How would you respond if someone told you that your game was only five hours long? In response to Chris Kohler's comments about God of War: Chains of Olympus, Ready At Dawn director Ru Weerasuriya offered his own thoughts about the matter during a recent interview. He also talked about certain ideas that Ready At Dawn once considered implementing into the game.

While Weerasuriya admitted that there have been people whoÂ’ve finished God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War 2 in five to eight hours, he stated his own opinion about Kohler's assessment of the game:

I don't think "very, very short" is a good assessment. ItÂ’s always hard to put a playtime length to any game. I just had a journalist tell me that he finished it in nine hours and had started a second playthrough. Some have already logged in more than 20 hours. So to each his own.

When quizzed about crazy ideas that Ready At Dawn may have had for this installment of the God of War franchise, Weerasuriya laid a number of them out: multiplayer, PvP, co-op and the option of playing as different heroes from Greek mythology, such as Hercules or Achilles. Unfortunately, these features ended up on the cutting room floor due to time constraints. The director said that they also decided to leave these features out in order to stay true to the spirit of God of War series.

Weerasuriya also touched upon a number of other topics, such as the other stuff they had to cut out of the final product and the learning process that Ready At Dawn went through while developing God of War: Chains of Olympus. If you'd like more information on those, feel free to click on the source link below for the full interview.

5 hours? Jesus Christ I think I'll skip this till it's bargain bin priced. No way I'm spending full asking price for this whereas Patapon and it's long playtime and replayability value goes for cheap.

Sorry.

*nods* I understand where you're coming from. Kindly, note, though, that 5 hours is only for one playthrough. If you really enjoy the game that much, it won't hurt to play it again. :)

# if this game is that good then it doesn't mattersickofitall 2008-03-05 03:01
I don't mind that it is five hours, since it is on a portable machine. Plus I'm sure that they have unlockables which makes for longer gameplay.

UMD is not really that big of size. One of the reasons why Sony wants to give up UMD I guess.

yes, the game is short, but it is a prequel and also it's for a portable. I play it when I get downtime at work or similar occaisions so I am sure I can drag it out. Graphics/Sound/ Gameplay are insane. Besides, I'd rather them spend the time they need making God of War 3.

This game is long enough. Of course playing on easy, you'll get through it fast. The game actually encourages you to play again, with an extra hard mode enabled after you beat it, and some new stuff. So, it's worth getting it...

and am near the end I believe of the 2nd level. So that should quell these "5 hour" rumours. Maybe some kid with cheats could run through and not get all the loot, & pay attention to the detail throughout.

I am COMPLETELY blown away! Feels like I'm playing a PC quality title!

I have never played the PS2 versions, but I can say this as an avid gamer for 25+ years:This game will rock you!

I always test before I buy, and it was good enough to warrant the $$ for this title.
