PSP Not Affected by DS Lite Sales |

Despite Nintendo's DS Lite's heavyweight success in Japan and almost everywhere else, Sony PSP product manager John Koller says the brisk DS sales has been no impact on PSP sales. "We have had steady sales since before the DS Lite and to today" Koller pointed to cold, hard sales figures that show the PSP outsold the DS by approximately 900,000 units in North America.Koller again reiterated that Nintendo cater to more of the younger consumer while the PSP is geared more towards the 18-24 age bracket. He also said the PSP is more than a handheld gaming console given it extensive multimedia capabilities. "Gaming will always be at the heart of this. But, this has other benefits then just being a gaming system." Even with dwindling support for its UMD Koller remains optimistic. He said Sony is looking toward the internet for content distribution.

The market's ARE different. They CAN live together.
Neither DS or PSP boys seem to realise this.

It really doesn't matter which you own, there is lots of good gaming to be had on either platform and that is what counts - not the dumbass flamewars we see all the time about which one is better.

Wake UP and smell the coffee! Things do not look rosy for you Sony.

I'm glad I chose a PSP, thats my personal choice. I'm no fanboy of both, it just depends on what you want from such a device.
I wanted a PSP because of homebrew and the good games (also personal games, don't flame).
Besides I hate Nintendo because of their fanboys always telling how original they are with their touchscreens. It's no where near original, and they have been used before in mobile devices (not exactly dedicated to gaming, but you can play on them. PDA's etc.) And it's annoying when you're on the move, trust me I know (I have a PDA, with touch screen (DuH!))
Not that you can expect any fair psp vs. ds reviews.
Ever seen the crappy 3d graphics of a DS?
Even in 2d the psp displays far better graphics. And gameplay is not the argument: ever played Loco Roco, it's like nintendo gameplay (like most of nintendo's games it's also in 2d) and full of fancy colours.
PSP also got it's drawbacks, short batterylife, expensive (well the PSP itself, the games are mostly cheaper (well, the platinum games) than DS games)
The PSP is not a device from heaven but I PREFER it over a DS
Think and compare before you buy something, ask yourself what YOU want (not your friends or me
Anyway, I went waaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaay off-topic ;)

PSP RULEZZ ALL THE WAY.

That $600 will only be the first 1 or 2 months. Only die-hard fanboys will buy them at that moment.
Later when they can handle the demand the price will drop. Same happend with the PS1, PSX, PS2 and PS2slimline.
Get your basics right before you post ;)

also, loco roco's gameplay completely udderly rips off the GBA title Donkey Kong: King of Swing, don't believe me, try it yourself
also, psp is excellent for looking at porn, homebrew, games, etc so I aint a fanboy either way

600$ at the beginning? What about artificially inflated prices? What about market shortages?

I live outside of the U.S, its usual for prices to be outrageous.

I play great games on both.
I feel no need to slag off either to justify my purchase or fanboy obsession.
Do you see?

Nobody gives a ***** about japan sales, honestly.
And how the hell people like Businessman [comment 17] think? You're prices are WAY higher than usual ones, games are like 15-35$, mem sticks have diffrent prices, you can get 1.5 Psp for 200$.
Nintendo is owning only at japan.
In Europe Psp outsells Ds, in US it outsells, and im positive it will continue like this or even grow.
About Ps3, you will see, people WILL buy it, it's pricy yes, but have you seen it's power?
Both Ds and Psp have theyr bad and good sides, be happy with the one you own.

In conclusion I enjoy both of them. I just don't want to hear sony say that the psp is still 1million ahead of the ds beacuse I'm gonna have a very, very hard time beliving that.

Sony have been caught bull*****ting and QJ should check their facts before publishing them.

Thats exactly what I tried to point. At first supply is so low (though sony says it will ship 6 million units the first 5 months) that they can ask (and sell ps3's at) these $600 dollars. Probably only die-hards will be able/want to buy it for that price.
It's very hard to launch a device like the PS3 or Xbox360 in such short time over the whole world (even for Sony or any other multinational).
I'm not saying ps3 or any other console is a good buy. We'll have to see the final results on November 11th to compare them in a fair way.
I reconmend everybody who is saving money for a console to wait and compare them. It's just a waste of money to buy a Xbox360 and later buying a PS3 or Wii because you like them better. (One of my friends first bought a DS before I had a PSP. When he saw what the PSP was truly capable of he bought him one too

I use both of them and I think both of them are GREAT systems! Both have the ability to run homebrew.
So everyone needs to keep their fanboy rants to themselves.

Have to admit I play the DS more due to being into Nintendo style games. There are less PSP games I like but Lumines, Exit, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Monkey Ball are more than enough for me right now!

I also have a hard time believing PSP has sold nearly a million more than DS. I call BS on that. As many places also report DS is ahead, so the best anyone can say for now is they are too close to call IMO (in US anyway--DS pwns in Japan).

I like my PSP a lot. If the DS sold 93 billion units, and the PSP sold ten units... I could care less! The fact is I like my PSP, and I won't waste my time trying to disprove sales figures favoring the other system.
