PSP Not Affected by DS Lite Sales |
Ó
Despite Nintendo's DS Lite's heavyweight success in Japan and almost everywhere else, Sony PSP product manager John Koller says the brisk DS sales has been no impact on PSP sales. "We have had steady sales since before the DS Lite and to today" Koller pointed to cold, hard sales figures that show the PSP outsold the DS by approximately 900,000 units in North America.Koller again reiterated that Nintendo cater to more of the younger consumer while the PSP is geared more towards the 18-24 age bracket. He also said the PSP is more than a handheld gaming console given it extensive multimedia capabilities. "Gaming will always be at the heart of this. But, this has other benefits then just being a gaming system." Even with dwindling support for its UMD Koller remains optimistic. He said Sony is looking toward the internet for content distribution.

Hm... maybe this article is right. But anyway, just remember that DS LITE OWNS !!! (and crappy and buggy PSP shucks)
Does that means that the PSP sales have been so low that the DS lite sales have not affected it?
1 & 2 nintendo fanboys
I mean come on. He says that the psp has sold 900,000 more in the usa. Who is he trying to fool. If the DS lite has sold over 500,000 in the month it came out in just japan. THat hs got to hurt psp sales.
Why does it have to hurt sales? The people rushing out to buy DS Lite's I doubt were the same people thinking about getting a PSP. The market's ARE different. They CAN live together. Neither DS or PSP boys seem to realise this.
I also don't think that the DS sales did do not affect the sales of the PSP, regardless how many DS are sold.
I love it how the 'cold hard evidence' doesnt even warrent a link to it.
It's still fairly neck and neck in the US, but the DS had a christmas holiday season and a 4 month head start, and despite that the PSP is holding its own so far, especially in light of good titles (finally) already out and coming soon. In Japan however, the DS has a strong hold, (it's not like the PSP is selling poorly either), thanks to Nintendo and strong support. It really doesn't matter which you own, there is lots of good gaming to be had on either platform and that is what counts - not the dumbass flamewars we see all the time about which one is better.
It's the same position they took with the PS3. Despite the doomsaying, they remain oblivious to current trends and market conditions. "We will prevail! Yes, consumers do want to pay 600$ for the potential of the PS3" Wake UP and smell the coffee! Things do not look rosy for you Sony.
Does it matter how much better or worse the PSP sells. It's around equal, this month the DS sells a bit better maybe next month the PSP. I'm glad I chose a PSP, thats my personal choice. I'm no fanboy of both, it just depends on what you want from such a device. I wanted a PSP because of homebrew and the good games (also personal games, don't flame). Besides I hate Nintendo because of their fanboys always telling how original they are with their touchscreens. It's no where near original, and they have been used before in mobile devices (not exactly dedicated to gaming, but you can play on them. PDA's etc.) And it's annoying when you're on the move, trust me I know (I have a PDA, with touch screen (DuH!)) Not that you can expect any fair psp vs. ds reviews. Ever seen the crappy 3d graphics of a DS? Even in 2d the psp displays far better graphics. And gameplay is not the argument: ever played Loco Roco, it's like nintendo gameplay (like most of nintendo's games it's also in 2d) and full of fancy colours. PSP also got it's drawbacks, short batterylife, expensive (well the PSP itself, the games are mostly cheaper (well, the platinum games) than DS games) The PSP is not a device from heaven but I PREFER it over a DS Think and compare before you buy something, ask yourself what YOU want (not your friends or me :P )! Anyway, I went waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off-topic ;)
No wonder, who would want a ds, my lasses mother got one and it is still sh1te. PSP RULEZZ ALL THE WAY.
#9 That $600 will only be the first 1 or 2 months. Only die-hard fanboys will buy them at that moment. Later when they can handle the demand the price will drop. Same happend with the PS1, PSX, PS2 and PS2slimline. Get your basics right before you post ;)
i agree with you #10
Different markets / personal tastes
The numbers from sony are fake... becouse here in south america PSP and DS sells like water, but nintendo DS that are sold here come directly from Japan, and there is one company responsible for that, so they have even numbers of the sales here, while our PSPs come from US, and Sony just ignore our existence...
why are psp accessories (official batteries) being sold at discount price at kmart also, loco roco's gameplay completely udderly rips off the GBA title Donkey Kong: King of Swing, don't believe me, try it yourself also, psp is excellent for looking at porn, homebrew, games, etc so I aint a fanboy either way
Listen Sony is obviously lying. They aren't gonna sit there and admit that they are being outsold. Dood nobody wants to buy a machine for 250$ and then spend 150$ on memory cards and then spend 50$ on each game. It's stupid and they are trying to rob people. Thats why we hacked their system and are robbing every *****in penny from them. They treat their customers like we are all rich. The population in japan, china, and eastern hemisphere countries are much much more than the US. Who cares if they sold 900,000 units more in north america. Ask them which console reigns in Japan the home of sony. Not even their own people like the PSP. Its too expensive. They have 900, 000 kids in one city by itself. The Nintendo definitely is kicking the PSP's ass.
12#: 600$ at the beginning? What about artificially inflated prices? What about market shortages? http://palgn.com.au/article.php?id=4898&sid=f94f1212cb0d01d972abb5cd298605ad I live outside of the U.S, its usual for prices to be outrageous.
I love my PSP but I am surprised by the sales numbers that have been reported. Seriously, almost all the games I have played for the PSP were terrible. The only few I liked were Syphon Filter, Ridge Racer, Twisted Metal and Grand Teft Auto. While the DS has a ton of great games. I did notice that around Christmas time a lot of people at my school suddenly got a PSP. None fo them used it for gaming. Most of the showed it off or sat around in the hall listening to music on it. I bet a lot of PSPs are just going to sit around the house gathering dust since most of those people have no clue how to use the PSP fully to its potential. My PSP= Multimedia and hombrew (barely any gaming). MY DSL= Games.
Who cares the ds is still sold more uinets in amarica then psp
I have a DS and a PSP. I play great games on both. I feel no need to slag off either to justify my purchase or fanboy obsession. Do you see?
^ 2.6
Rofl at some people here. Nobody gives a ***** about japan sales, honestly. And how the hell people like Businessman [comment 17] think? You're prices are WAY higher than usual ones, games are like 15-35$, mem sticks have diffrent prices, you can get 1.5 Psp for 200$. Nintendo is owning only at japan. In Europe Psp outsells Ds, in US it outsells, and im positive it will continue like this or even grow. About Ps3, you will see, people WILL buy it, it's pricy yes, but have you seen it's power? Both Ds and Psp have theyr bad and good sides, be happy with the one you own.
So this is true psp and ds have different features. Both oddly enough cater to young and old crowds... I don't care what you say about ds being for kids because there is no way the ds can sell that much and just be kids buying it. Psp has a nice selection for multimedia stuff. DS has very nice games. I have both and you really can't compair the two for they each aren't really in the same catagory. I don't really look at the psp in the gaming handheld war just for the fact that sony is taking more time talking about all the other features it can do and just throwing out any random crap out for it in terms of games. That's the one problem with having a whole lot of features you can't focus on them all. That's why I belive at least why ds is the gaming handheld for they know that it's "gaming" not look what else I can do. In conclusion I enjoy both of them. I just don't want to hear sony say that the psp is still 1million ahead of the ds beacuse I'm gonna have a very, very hard time beliving that.
in my opinion the psp is only this enjoyable because of Homebrew.i had a psp 2.71 before i had me a 1.5 and letme just say it was boring.everyone with a psp 2.7+ hates it.or if not barely pick it up..The ds has its fun games maybe more than the psp at the time but the fact still remains.the psp is a multimedia consel both with up to date gaphics and features...the ds hardly serpasses the n64..which might i add is soon to be completely emulated on the psp along with a GBA....so honestly....if you pick ds over psp..you lost out:(
This is so old, after Sony released these figures (which are for units shipped not sold) Nintendo released their DS figures and they showed the DS has outsold the PSP in the US as well as Japan and Europe. And that's for units sold not just shipped. Sony have been caught bull*****ting and QJ should check their facts before publishing them.
i love my psp so much i wish i paid for it
#18 Thats exactly what I tried to point. At first supply is so low (though sony says it will ship 6 million units the first 5 months) that they can ask (and sell ps3's at) these $600 dollars. Probably only die-hards will be able/want to buy it for that price. It's very hard to launch a device like the PS3 or Xbox360 in such short time over the whole world (even for Sony or any other multinational). I'm not saying ps3 or any other console is a good buy. We'll have to see the final results on November 11th to compare them in a fair way. I reconmend everybody who is saving money for a console to wait and compare them. It's just a waste of money to buy a Xbox360 and later buying a PS3 or Wii because you like them better. (One of my friends first bought a DS before I had a PSP. When he saw what the PSP was truly capable of he bought him one too :P And yes, he regrets it)
I think both are great systems. I still plan on purchasing another PSP and a Nintendo DS Lite. I use both of them and I think both of them are GREAT systems! Both have the ability to run homebrew. So everyone needs to keep their fanboy rants to themselves.
i get sick from the fight of the fanboys, both systems are good , for my age (29y) i use the PSP more than the DS .
it doesnt affect sony at all. Because they are still making good sales. And unlike nintendo if they are selling bad they can always turn the other products they sell, not to mention who cares if nintendo won this time.good for them. If I can recall the last 2 platforms sony released which were the only platforms, kicked the sh*t out of nintendo by a landslide. and i think you guys fail to realize how gaming sales are done. They dont count every individual sale. They count how many they ship out. And if I can recall whenever I go in a store theres always like 3 PSPs and like 10 DS's. If nintendo says theyve sold 200 million, doesnt actaully mean they sold 200 million.
DS lite rocks, but i may see a small crack forming on one of my hinges... please, no!
why do fanboys have to argue which is better if they can a dsl and a psp and jus a psp thats sad... really really sad...(i have both)
I own both a DS and a PSP and I got to tell you my PSP is my main choice for gaming. My DS just sits there collecting dust in my drawer. And I am only looking forward to one DS game. Yeah you guessed it Castlevania Portrait of Ruin. Meanwhile I am looking forward to Silent Hill Origins and Metal Gear Solid Portable OPS. And the PSONE Emulator for the PSP. Can't wait to play Silent Hill on my PSP.
number 19 you should use your cleaning cloth more often then you fanboy

I have both..To be honest, I also prefer the PSP. I really only use my PSP because of homebrew (I have a GP2X too, but the battery life is too *****)..As far as games, I think both libraries are *****. Gems like Phoenix Wright, Dawn of Sorrow, Daxter, and Lumines are too far between..
Ds sucks, psp ownz, end of that. Also I've found out a wya of amking fun of the nintendo wii. To all nintendo fanboys when ur playin your wii and u need to take a wee your gonn have to say "hold my wii i gotta take a wee", yepp
Why that picture has a normal DS....
I play Both everyday.
Have both, if any of the fanboys simply played the other rather than just bigging up whatever mumsie bought them then they'd change their tune. Have to admit I play the DS more due to being into Nintendo style games. There are less PSP games I like but Lumines, Exit, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Monkey Ball are more than enough for me right now!
I thought PS(1,2,3,P) = machure gamerz. . . ? I guess not. I also have a hard time believing PSP has sold nearly a million more than DS. I call BS on that. As many places also report DS is ahead, so the best anyone can say for now is they are too close to call IMO (in US anyway--DS pwns in Japan).
Then that means PSP was utter crap to begin with.
why can't anyone look at both sides? i had a PSP with 2 gig sandisk card, 1.5 firm; all sorts of crap on it, and i'm sorry, i would prefer the DS. SORRY! i tried to stick to PSP, but when FREE GAMES (iso's and fastloader) don't even help it, you start to wonder what else is there. i'm not a PSP or DS fanboy, but i would prefer the support of my manufacturer with all sorts of things regarding my $100.00 and up purchase. also, UMD is going out soon anyways, so how can sony be up that much in sales? nintendo sucked it up and admitted their original design was flawed (yet indestructible) while sony laughs all the way to the bank cause they'll never release a proper version of the PSP. i would prefer a DS over a PSP anyday now. sorry guys. maybe you psp guys are blinded by the $250 dollar checks you're throwing @ sony, but ds r0xx0r.
Wow... why can't people just accept the news? Why does it really matter who is outselling who. If YOU enjoy the system, thats all that really matters, right? I like my PSP a lot. If the DS sold 93 billion units, and the PSP sold ten units... I could care less! The fact is I like my PSP, and I won't waste my time trying to disprove sales figures favoring the other system.
have any of you PSP guys tried to get a DS lite? it's incredibly difficult. stores are sold out of Lites, but stocked full of PSP's with dust on them. so who's outselling who? these stores get trucks in almost every night, and they still sell out. sony up by almost a million units???? i think not.
