Producer Jody Kelsey on MLB 07 The Show |
Ó
SportsGamer.com had a chance to interview Jody Kelsey, producer for Sony's MLB Franchise. He talks about the improvements and basically what players can expect from this new installment. They have made improvements in just about every aspect of the game since they had something better to work with - the PS3's processing power and larger memory. Graphics, animation, gameplay, and artificial intelligence were among the things that were improved.
Players would have the option of being "always online". They can access live data like scores of their fave teams, items, IM, Buddy invites, and game challenges. According to Mr. Kelsey, their "biggest feature this year, by far, is the Online League system". Online play is the front runner of this game, they are even working on a feature that involves the system sending text messages to the player. Players can enjoy head-to-head exhibition games and scheduled league games.
MLB 07 The Show would be released for three platforms: the PS2, PSP, and PS3. Mr. Kelsey says that they had little problem translating the game for all three platforms since they used nearly the same core animations. The only difference is that the PS3 has longer animations since it has more memory.
PS2 also gets the online option on the game, along with the league system that allows them to organize their own leagues with up to 30 teams. There's also the "My Sliders" option where they can create a perfect game and show it to other players online.
The "MLB Live Sportscast" is a live game tracker that players can use to track game statistics and watch their fave teams. There's also an online Player Card that shows each player's stats like ratings, MLB points, and Achievements. The Career Mode has been beefed up and now has a Classic Career and a new "Road to The Show". There's a new Pitch Command System that adds some real feel and strategy to pitching. A "Swing Analysis" feature can be used to improve timing on batting. Another interesting new feature is the three Umpire Personalities: tight zone, wide zone, and perfect zone.
Mr. Kelsey said, "Everything users get to do with the PS2 they will be able to do on the PSP," in addition to a Player profile system. The player would have to complete goals to unlock Easter Eggs and Old Time Players. The PSP version will also feature "NEWS2GO" where they can download their fave team's feed and read it at their pleasure. The Show starts this Spring as MLB 07 The Show is set for release for the PS3.

I seriously hate it when next-gen consoles get direct ports from their predecessors (like the Xbox 360 version of Gun). This MLB game seriously looks awful. :(
