Some people may have found the first Patapon title a little frustrating at times. However, a recent interview with designer Hiroyuki Kotani explained that gamers will no longer have the compulsion to hurl their handhelds at a wall, thanks to the more gentle learning curve and newbie friendly features Patapon 2 will be sporting.

The video game designer received numerous comments about Patapon being too challenging and unforgiving, even for the more veteran rhythm game experts. Hoping to improve on the next title based on this feedback, the developers decided to add some useful features such as buffers which will warn the player of any mistimed beats to help ease the difficulty.

In addition, Kotani also explained the game's other features like the multiplayer mode and why it was excluded in the first title. He mentioned that there were no proper distinctions between units in the original Patapon, which might lead to some confusion when engaging in a multiplayer battle. However, the introduction of the Hero units gave each player a very visible banner to lead their respective troops with.

Kotani also discussed how the new single player mode will have twice as much content compared to Patapon. Fans can expect more powerful Patapons aside from the Hero units, with equally strong opponents to face the tribe of one-eyed warriors this time around.

Patapon 2 is currently planned for release this winter in Japan. Hopefully, we'll be getting more updates regarding the game as time goes on. We'll be sure to keep an eye out for more Patapon tidbits, so make sure to drop by QJ.NET from time to time.

Yay! I loved the first game, though I felt it was very short once I finished it. I was sad that we couldn't go back and replay from the beginning with save endgame inventory. Fighting the boss monsters over and over gets a bit boring. I wanted second chances at the rarest items that didn't drop my first time through.

I was also disappointed the flying units weren't in the first game. From the second screenshot it looks like we'll finally have them. Yay!

Glad to hear the sequel will be twice as big.

but i also hope they'd allow more flexibility in placing the units. having to use each unit by block can be kind of frustrating, especially if for a particular stage you need more of one unit over the other.

for example, there are stages where yaripons would be much useful than yumipons, and 6 is the most you can have. but they come in package deals, so you can't have, say, 8 yaripons and 4 yumipons to complete the roster.

i just think that would make the game more strategic.

Great! I always felt like the first Patapon was something that wasn't what it could have been, it was innovative and daring but they didn't put a lot of levels and challenges. Twice the content and new features?! That's the Patapon I've been wishing for ;)
