Nomura: Agito XIII will be pinnacle of handheld RPGs, more updates on Final Fantasy games |

Ó
All he had to say about Final Fantasy XIII (PS3, Xbox 360) was that there will be new stuff shown at E3 2009. Apparently, Nomura is no longer very involved with Final Fantasy XIII, so he has shifted his focus onto Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII.
For the former, they're currently testing the battle system and some "map gimmicks". There's going to be a lull in Versus XIII news for a bit, but Nomura says that once they get to a certain point, he'll show everyone something "very surprising".
As for Agito XIII, the battle system has gone through enough overhauls that it's already taken on a form different from the battle screens we've previously seen. Quality is once again the highest priority for Agito XIII as Nomura wants it to be the pinnacle of handheld RPGs in this console generation.
Even more relevant to my interests is a quick mention of the new Parasite Eve PSP game, The Third Birthday, which is apparently far enough into development that it's now playable through the prologue.
Fans of classic PSOne games can also look forward to some type of announcement for the PlayStation Network's Game Archives in the future, although chances are this will only be for Japan.

That pricked my attention so I read up on this game on Wikipedia. And no. It's set in a school and has a battle system similar to Crisis Core? No. That puts it right at the bottom of the barrel for me.
The best handheld RPG's are still FFVII (thanks DA), Golden Sun 1 and 2 and Tales of Eternia... Even though just 2 of those aren't ports and specifically designed to be a handheld RPG.

And I did some research on the game myself, I heard that it starts in a school and expands later which gradualy allows the player to get out and explore the world. Thats what I heard... Could be wrong. Annyway that takes me back to Final Fantasy 8! I love that game! I belive that the battle system will be somehow different from the one of Crisis Core even if they share some elements!
About being the "pinnacle" for the system is a common goal for alot of developers. It's not a fakt that this will be the best game for the PSP jusst becaus they say that it is going to be the best RPG for the system. Everyone needs goals

They do say the battle system is a mixture between Crisis Core with an ATB system. That's a step in the right direction but if they have needless one-arm-bandit like bonus systems then no. A game shouldn't rely on luck.
I've still got hopes for the 360/PS3 version though.
But it's of my opinion that nothing since FFVII has been 'the best' of any console.

Look. Square's reputation is well-earned, but now they're just starting to sound like arrogant wankers.

I won't automatically give Agito a 10/10, but I say if the battle system is similar, then it will at least be a fun game to play
