The Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of... the Decepticons! - Image 1

After much hopeful speculation, careful stabs at the dark, and an otherwise overlooked confirmation, we're finally treated to what a lot of people would call as the "Optimus" of interviews. Yep, after the long wait, the very first few details for Transformers: The Game have been revealed. The game will be developed by Traveller's Tales, under the publishing license of Activision.

IGN was able to talk to Producer Andy Burrows for the lo-down on the 2007-movie tie-in game, and as things stand, it looks like everything each and every fan ever imagined. The long and short of it:
  • The game will tie closely to the movie. There is even some talk that the film's voice actors could be part of the development for the game.  As for the trademark transformation sound in the cartoon series, Burrows says we just have to wait and see.
  • There'll be two campaigns to choose from: 1) the Autobots, following the story arc of the movie, and 2) the Decepticons, putting a fresh twist to the background and critical points in the movie. You'd be able to use most of the bots featured in the movie and wreak havoc on your environment during missions.
  • Transformations will be "as intuitive and as useful as a punch, a run, or a jump." Fighting a boss as a raging boombox is yet to be confirmed.
  • Game mechanics will be the same across all the platforms, however, given the unique features of the SIXAXIS and Wiimote, control schemes (and ultimately overall gameplay experience) will differ from this or that console/handheld.
The game is currently set to be released on the PS3, 360, Wii, PSP, PS2, PC, and NDS sometime during the third quarter of this year. Click the Read link for the rest of the interview.

F**k transformers, that is probably the most stupidest game/show/movie/soon-to-be-game ever...

» Is this game about 25 years too late?

I think so.

Hey Activision! 1982 called, they want their toys back!

Man how can you diss transformers.

And you dont have this listed for Ps3 but I believe it is according to the article you linked...

Robots in disguise.. I hope this game comes out good I loved that as a kid...

» Hopefully

this game turns out as good as it sounds because I loved transformers

Now that I think about it, I can't believe there was never a beast machines game.

Who made the Transformers game for the PS2? That was actually good...

by NovaMan XP - 2007-02-09 13:42
» Atari

Atari made the PS2 Transformers game, and it was awesome.

I just hope this one is just as good.

I would really like to see a 'Beast Machines' game. Beast Machines was a rather well animated spin off of transformers done in teh 90's by a Canadian animation studio. Unlike beast wars (it's predecessor) it was a rather beautiful series with great characters and story. I think with todays consoles they'd be able to pull of an almost exact look of the show.

» no

it wont come out on ps3 because the primary audiance is kids who are not spoiled (the fact that they are dolls not games) and chances are anyone within their primary demographics do not have ps3's

your so f*cking lame for being "first"

» Uhhh

So kids who have a 360 aren't spoiled? Methinks if your parents can afford a 360 they can probably afford a PS3, $200 isn't a huge difference

» The Autobots Were The Best

I don't know about any Beast Machines, I did not like the Beast Wars much but I enjoyed the original Transformers.

Pretty funny Gino D. You make a good point to wonder about "Fighting a boss as a raging boombox is yet to be confirmed." I always wondered how Megatron shrunk when he transformed into a gun. I wonder how they will do that in the movie. I hope they don't make it stupid.

by Decepticons forever! - 2007-02-09 17:52
» Awesome

This is great news. Any naysayers can suck it. Also, this movie is NOT a kids movie by any stretch of the imagination. Hell, it's going to carry at least a PG-13 rating. There will be no Mass shifting guns either. Megatron is NOT a Walther P-38, actually NONE of the main cast of bots look anything like their namesakes of the 80's.

» grow up, transformers are over and are so gay.

opimus prime is jewish?

by Dark Mark - 2007-02-09 22:57
» UGLY Megatron

You may have seen how badly the movie Megatron looks, comparing to the original one. Well, I hope the PC version of the game gets hacked quickly, as I would gladly make a new model of him (of course only if the movie plot is good).

» Super Aussies

The development of the game was handled by Melbourne Studios, they seem to have a knack for getting the best out of available hardware. Transformers looked amazing for a PS2 game and their port of Test Drive Unlimited for the PSP is unbelievable...

» Family Guy

Yeah, I remeber that eps of the family guy too........

by Max F. - 2007-02-10 07:53
» But...

I remember my classmates and I pretending to be Transformers and running about the playground. Nobody ever wanted to be Megatron - pretending to transform into a gun was a bit of a stretch (or scrunch). For us, Soundwave was so much cooler. I always got stuck being Bumblebee.

so what? get a grip + go back to your power rangers.

» does say ps3 dip*****s

y wouldn't adults play this? i mean there are adult gamers who probably watched the original series, transformers is a series that transcends time better than most series from that era

1982 is way cooler than you will ever be... I wasn't even born then; in fact, I can vaguely remember Transformers. Regardless of my memory, robots that have weapons, emotions, personalities, and can transform in to a variety of vehicles doing this to try and maintain some sort of DISGUISE is the DEFINITION of classic entertainment! You can't just let something like that dissolve into the past.
