More on Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles from Koji Igarashi |
The folks at Games Radar have an ultra-long "mega-interview" with Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi. aside from the usual and expected Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles for the PSP, Igarashi was also nice enough to tease a little bit about his future plans for next-generation additions to the Castlevania franchise.
When asked why he chose to revive and remake the Dracula X: Rondo of Blood, Koji said that because the Rondo of Blood story was never brought to the US, they wanted to take this chance to emphasize to the many Castlevania fans that there was another masterpiece aside from Symphony of the Night.
When asked if there will be any improvements to Rondo of Blood other than the graphical enhancements and a few storyline tweaks - he clarifies that since the original had multiple writers, some scenes made no sense so they fixed the story and a few levels - it's almost a straight port. Also, when it comes to the included Symphony of the Night, the only changes it will get is better voice acting. Igarashi says:
There's a particular part that I didn't like. It was a cool part with Alucard. Richter was laughing, and Alucard turned around and said "Who are you?" but not in a very cool way. [Imitating the voice acting] "Who. Are. You?!" Obviously I don't speak English, but even I felt really uncomfortable with that voice acting.
As for the future of the franchise, Igarashi assures that Castlevania will stick to its action gameplay roots, despite them having to add in a few changes to keep things fresh. He explains:
we've definitely got to challenge new stuff for future Castlevania series. But then again we're focusing on an action game. We can't change into RPG or adventure. Fans might be mad if we make a drastic change... and our mission right now is to create the right action game. Good action.
As for the next-gen teasing, here's what Igarashi had to say about it:
I don't know if the next generation will be either taking the SOTN style or making a drastic change like SOTN did, or to follow up the PS2 style. I just don't know what it will be like with the next generation because we haven't narrowed down the platform. But now what's in my mind, now that we've been following up two PS2 titles, I think I can anticipate a good quality action game for next gen.
Good to hear that whatever the innovations they make, Castlevania will stick to it's action platforming roots. Imagine the uproar if they suddenly introduced turn-based creepiness into this franchise? Level based character improvement maybe but, slow stuff down? No way!

NO
Hey did they ask why does the character movment across the the screen seem very slow (watch the trailer and youll know what I am saying) and did they ask if they are planing to bring more castlevania to PSP. (as you can see I am a bit lazy to go and read the full story ;b
just what the psp needs, more ports of old games from systems that sold a fraction of what the psp sold and have had better and more original games amde for by the same gamne makers.
oh and I really doubt he did that because the u.s fans didnt play it, lol he did it cause the psp userbase is filled with brain dead moots who cant play or dont want to play classic or 2d games and every single unique, classic, ord 2d game sells badly on the psp while the psp suerbase demands more gtas, mnaddens, and racing games.
wat does the comment mean
Strangler, you sure are having a bad day, nothing you said made sense. Everything you said is negative and nothing constructive. It's just a negative oppinion from a miserable person, no one cares about that. What are you saying? The games right now are somewhat lame, yes but its because of the people making them not the people playing them. This game is a good example of what people really want and it will sell I'm sure. You are attacking the fans by calling them brain dead moots but you are barking at the wrong tree. Gamers don't always get what they want and the games available right now are not a reflection of the PSP community. Sony is now aware that one of the main problem is that they do not have "Million sellers" like Nintendo has with the DS and they are trying to do something about it, like listening to their customers. If you build good games, they will come!
