MGS Portable Ops: Big Boss gives much to the PSP |
Ó

Big Boss gives so much. He's given his life, his skills, his service, his treason, even his former Boss, his team, his death, and his very own genetic code, just to keep the Metal Gear storyline going. And when Kojima Productions decided it was time to put him in our pockets, Big Boss gives even more. And not only to the PSP, as IGN learns when talking to Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Associate Producer Ryan Payton.
Big Boss gives Subsistence to the PSP. As Ryan tells IGN, "One of the first steps in developing MPO was to place the existing MGS3: Subsistence engine on PSP -- so what you're getting here is a brand new game built off of the Subsistence infrastructure."
Big Boss gives music to the PSP. Although in this case the composer's not Harry Gregson-Williams, the composers to the PS2 MGSes, but Norihiko Hibino, who's also a MGS soundtrack vet. And Japan gets more from Big Boss: the forty-four-track official soundtrack will be released in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Big Boss gives team/s to the PSP. MPO has both six-player Ad-Hoc and infrastructure for players to take on the world. But before you get into the multiplayer action, you might want to do a bit of recruiting, first - remember that hotspot thing? Says Ryan, you can have up to one hundred comrades in your multiplay-FOX unit. But you'll have to get busy beating down every hotspot for the best soldiers, and tweaking your team in single-player, before opening a can of FOX-brand whoop on online opponents.
Big Boss gives much to Guns of the Patriots. We think we covered this before, but we enjoy repeating it nonetheless. To fully understand Guns of the Patriots on the PS3, you've got to play Portable Ops on the PSP. And Snake Eater as well. Because MPO also reveals a lot of stuff that were hinted at in MGS3.
Big Boss gives Europeans something to be excited about. Expect an announcement from the Kojima boys and girls (or Konami) "real soon" concerning a Euro release.
Big Boss gives sequels to the PSP - if you really, really, really love him. "If the response to MPO is as good" as Kojima Productions is expecting, Ryan reveals that we can look forwards to new chapters in the Big Boss saga. "We still have many stories to tell about the early years of Metal Gear Solid - I hope we can continue to do that on PSP."
But there is one thing Big Boss WON'T give to: the PS2. Even if MPO sales don't exactly thrill the team, Ryan says there are and will be no plans for a PS2 port.

lol first
Yo this game is gonna kick so major ***!
Stop it. You're spamming. A-hole.
It also says that the game supports gameshare. He also says that there will be sequals if this game will sell good. (Which i hope it does)
Pirate this and burn forever in the boiling pits of inferno.
Piracy=/=MPO!!!! I dont know about you but i DO want to see a sequal on the PSP. Good game sales means good incentive for a sequal.
this game is out after my engineering final exam i can celebrate by buying it and having so so so much fun Muahahahaha cant wait till it pops on the shelves
Of course there will always be those that will download the iso and wont buy the game and will screw us all.
I have been waiting for this for a long time now and its only a week away now. It would be great to have a sequal to MGS:PO because the MG series have been the best series ever created. What about a MG and MG2 port to the PSP like in Subsistence? I would love to play them on the go. Also I would really like to see a MGA3. The last 2 were great.
you wont believe how many idiots actually buy psps just for the umd games, and entirely missing knowledge about downloading an iso. We will be fine. i really hate how most of you people think downloading an iso will hurt the scene or mgs game productions.
Man, all this news and potential for sequals is only making me want this game more. And to think that its only a week away... And to "tru.dat," yes, pirating DOES hurt the games sales. I mean, if there really was only one person who pirated this game, than it wouldnt really matter. But if hundreds of thousands of people do it, it starts becoming a problem. Heck, its a problem right now. At least, buy the game just to support Konami and Hideo Kojima.
I'm wondering about the hotspot thing... in the TGS article it was said this about the GPS: The GPS in the PSP lets you get in touch with satellites wherever you are and it tells you where the hotspots are. When you finally get there and connect to local Wi-fi points or PSP Spots, it's possible to earn powered-up bonus characters that you can use in the Comrade system. Remember that in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, there's a hotspot hiring feature that lets you earn various levels of characters stored for various IP addresses and zones. You can then make use of the GPS feature in the console in the special Scavenger Hunt for comrades. If that is so, and the GPS isn't currently scheduled for release anywhere but Japan, then what? Are we just supposed to wander around aimlessly hoping to find the proper hotspots containing better characters and what not? Seriously, WTF are we supposed to do? Am I just missing something here?
I suppose the big question will be if it will require the dreaded 3.0. If so, I'll definitely buy a copy just to support the team, but won't be playing it until we can load 3.0FW succesfully.
same here!
i will buy mgs:po even though i'll probably be playing the iso of it...given we'll be able to that is.
I be going to pirate it so none of ye get a sequel! Arrrr me hearties!
I cant wait anymore for this game. Good thing it doesnt involve gay ass cards like MGS:acid
