Kazunori Yamauchi: Gran Turismo PSP still there, it's moving forward

For years now, every update we get on Gran Turismo for the PSP is either news of its delay, or a short remark from somebody saying "it's still in development." Guess which one this update's about, then ask yourself, does it still matter?

This update's from Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi. In a recent interview, he gave a short remark saying: "I can only answer the same for that as well, but it is moving forward. It hasnÂ’t been knocked off the plans: itÂ’s there."

So there you go. It's there.

We've known for some time now that the release of Gran Turismo for the PSP is dependent on the release of Gran Turismo 5. Yamauchi said before that the PSP game won't be released until after GT5 comes out.

So, what's up with GT5's development? According to Yamauchi: "ThereÂ’s no real answer we can discuss right now, but production is moving forward."

There you go. Remember though, Yamauchi said before that GT5 probably won't be released until 2010, so we can probably expect more "it's there" comments for another year.

You make various references to other interviews and articles but leave it flat at the very end? Honestly? There's been an interview kicking around where Yamauchi says fans may be surprised to see the title hit much sooner than they think.

But we couldn't reference that huh?

» Meh

By the time it releases if ever, im almost certain that very few of us will even care. By 2010, many psp owners will have jumped the sony boat and picked up the MUCH more supported DSi. Right now, Sony needs to concentrate on MAKING GAMES and completely overhauling the form factor on the PSP. ANd, not that psp-3000 stuff either. We are not that stupid.

As for this game, yeah yeah yeah.

» What?

What's wrong with the PSP's form factor?

And i'd like to see the DS compete with the PSP in terms of graphics ;)

» Your point?

The PSP-3000 has been crucified by the internet without proof... I have been watching One Piece for 5 hours on a row and I haven't had "scanlines" on my screen still... I mean c'mon? Scanlines? What next? "Wi-fi is bad for your health?" or better "MObile phones provoke cancer!!"

I'm the one who says "meh"

» I have a DS

I have a PSP-1000 and i jumped the sony boat like muffinhead posted before. The PSP has cool games. But I think you can even count them with one hand! Sony is too busy releasing new PSP models instead of making games.

Right now I even dare to say i will not ever buy anything from sony again! because I had to save a lot to get my PSP and then they release the PSP-2000 with more ram and TV output ¬¬ It felt like a Stab in the back.

» pftt, don't matter to me anyway!

I just this morning wrapped both of my PSP's up for my nephews for christmas, as good as they were they soon lose their appeal, my phone actually plays games to a quality not as good as a psp but nearly.

Plus i never used to take my psp out anywhere with me anyway cos nowdays in London you walk aaround with a psp in your hands and you gonna end up stabbed, shot then thrown in a dustbin so some gangsta wannabe can get his next fix.(no im not making my nephews a target they live in rural yorkshire).

Plus my ps3 makes me happy seeing as the only time i feel like playing games is when im relaxed with a big reefer.

I play my PSP all the time - sometimes I watch the news and throw some Macross on. It still boggles my mind that the system gets such bad press considering the wealth of unique games on it - admittedly most of the best are Japanese, but hey, that's what import stores are for I suppose.

For portable gaming it has the best racing, shooting, SRPG and fighting games, whereas the DS has a very strong library of platformers, puzzle games and RPG's. Oh, and Mario Kart. It's just whatever floats your boat. I have both so I don't much care about the console wars.

In response to Sr Moska - they're following Apple with the whole minor upgrade thing. Yeah, it's annoying, but the DS and the 360 have seen as many revisions, are you boycotting Nintendo and MS as well?

As for GT5, hell, I didn't like GT1 - I can drive already so I'd rather have something like NFS or Burnout where I can do what I can't on the real roads, namely smash the crap out of other cars :)

I think most people are well past giving a ***** about whether they release this or not. It's way to late to hype up the game now because people just don't really care.

Another racer for the PSP? So what? We've seen a dozen of them already. Snore.

If you need a GT fix you can already run GT2 through pops anyway and let's face it, even if they do release GT5 on the PSP it's going to be a cut down shadow of what you'd expect to see on any decent console anyway.

In other words... big *****ing deal.

I'm sick of these devs to hype the ***** out of their games and then never release them. Who honestly gives a ***** anymore? Just release the damn thing of stfu I say. The gamers will decide if your steaming pile is worth the time of day or not.

"By 2010, many psp owners will have jumped the sony boat and picked up the MUCH more supported DSi."

No, never! I like it here, it's comfy ^^ And I like the horsepower running wildly inside my PSP and all the possibilities I can do with it.

No car game is going to look as spectacular in DS as it does in PSP. My sweet Midnight Club: L.A Remix, here I come!

by Shatterdome - 2008-11-26 01:44
» That's BS....

because if you have a psp-1000 chances are you can "hack" and all the money you had to "save" you could get back with free games, which would make you happy as happy can be....

or you are dumb...

» blargh

By the time we have GT portable we're gaming with PSP2-6000 or something...

Most on the long awaited sucks hard. Because you expect too much from it. GT Portable is promoted at the same time as the psp, how long ago was that? I think it's almost time to have a new series of real next gen portable gaming.

(LMAO, where is Microsoft, apple? It still amazes me what they announce. i*****.)

People are just BSing that there is a third version of the psp, "Sony is too busy designing a new psp" what about the *****ing DS? There is also *****ing 3 versions of it and hell they're just doing pretty much the *****ing same thing with some additional "must have" for the fanboys.
