During an interview with Gamasutra, Chief Operating Officer for Planet Moon, Aaron Loeb, was asked about his company's recent change of gaming platform from the PSP to the Wii. He replied that while the move was precipitated by the initially weak sales figures of the Sony handheld, he staunchly defended the little handheld, mentioning that interest in the platform appears to be making a strong come back among game publishers.
Asked about what spurred their decision to move away from the PSP:
Honestly, developers donÂ’t really get to make decisions like that. Publisher support for the platform waned for a while, so if weÂ’d stubbornly stuck to the PSP we wouldnÂ’t have gotten work doing much beyond ports.
Interest in the PSP is definitely coming back among the publishers, though. That little puppy just keeps on selling!
In the same interview, he also noted that gamers should note the obvious distinctions between big budget, feature rich, titles like such as Halo 3 and the small but innovative independent games that are so necessary to the evolutionary process of the gaming industry.
