In an interview with Games Industry, Relentless Software's co-founder David Amor shared some of his thoughts regarding the state of video games. He said that during at this time, video games won't be able to crossover from gaming consoles to a broader entertainment device. Amor said that, as of the moment, the video games are still "miles away" from reaching the mass market.
But as time passes by, Amor believes that with every generation that comes along, the stigma on video games will become decreasingly apparent. Amor added that some games that have been able to help reshape the way people view video games.
Even if this happens to be the case, video games still have a long road ahead before they can reach the mass market. Amor said:
So the stigma's gone away, people are realizing that it can appeal to a wider set of people, moms and dads are playing Brain Training, Buzz!, SingStar, so it's certainly going in the right direction, but we're a long way off real mass market.
If you only appeal to a certain section of people, you can't get the hardware sales beyond a certain point.

My entire family didn't like games and then I brought a Wii over and just as I was done they wanted to play it more.
Wii has definitely started shrinking that margin and if another game that is similar to Wii Sports hits the market that is just as fun and simple, I think the barrier will be torn down.
I believe the fact that the consoles take so much money for those in the lower and middle class to purchase the console is the reason its not grown to an overwhelming statistic. Nintendo said their ideal goal was to have a Wii in every household I believe. They are well on their way to it and if a future price drop comes I think it will come even closer.
Just my opinion.

The only way I would get a Wii is:
1) Take a little more skill to play. So far no Wii game has that.
2) does not need the Wiimote to play. I am not saying get rid of the thing. Just make games that use the Classic Controller more.
If Nintendo does these two things, then I will mostly get a Wii. But as of now I have a X-Box 360, and realy soon I will be getting a PS3. Mainly becuse those two have games that I want to play.
